First, Great Britain evaluates medicines on cost-EFFECTIVENESS, not cost. They are not the same.
Second, Moore is not telling RESEARCHERS what to do. Scientists employed by pharmaceutical companies don't do as they please. They depend on funding from the company, which is controlled by non-scientists.
Thirdly, pharmaceutical companies make much more profit by creating drug dependency, not curing illness. They have no financial incentive to produce cures. They make a lot more money producing drugs that dull and prolong the illness because you keep coming back for refills.
Fourthly, PROFITS do not sustain companies, REVENUE does. If pharmaceutical companies break even, they will continue to operate. They won't grow, but there is no manifest need for growth. They are far from operating at a loss
Fifthly, scientists are in no position to be altrustic. As I stated before, they depend on funding from non-scientists who do not necessarily care for the advancement of their studies. First, Great Britain evaluates medicines on cost-EFFECTIVENESS, not cost. They are not the same.
Second, Moore is not telling RESEARCHERS what to do. Scientists employed by pharmaceutical companies don't do as they please. They depend on funding from the company, which is controlled by non-scientists.

Thirdly, pharmaceutical companies make much more profit by creating drug dependency, not curing illness. They have no financial incentive to produce cures. They make a lot more money producing drugs that dull and prolong the illness because you keep coming back for refills.
Fourthly, PROFITS do not sustain companies, REVENUE does. If pharmaceutical companies break even, they will continue to operate. They won't grow, but there is no manifest need for growth. They are far from operating at a loss

to compare the process of drug approval in the FDA versus the process of drug ADMINISTRATION in the NHS is a total non-sequitor. the FDA merely approves drugs for use. they're job is to determine what is safe. the job of the NHS is all that, AND to PURCHASE and ADMINISTER the drugs, so of course they are going to consider costs! I don't know what Moore says, but any healthcare system with a budget will look at costs. the difference is that social healthcare won't kill people for profit.

When I had my appendix taken out I was on the opperating table within an hour. The average wait time in American ERs is 20 min. That's a silly notion to believe that a person shouldn't have rights to it. I think you're suggesting that people should have more priorities to access health care than others. Which in my opinion is right but to a certain degree.

Okie7171: I would be very interested to see where you get the information that most french buy private care. The last I remember was about 20% and the private security costs peanuts in france. If the privatized system is so good, tell me why the best healthcare according to UN statistics is in the countries that practise socialized medicine? US still number 37 on the list. And would lower if the richness of the country would be taken into account.

One other thing. Why do so many people think that socialized care would kill all private sector? In europe there are also private healthcare providers. The differences are that they have a lot smaller market than in US, since most of the people are happy with the free care. And they are a lot cheaper, because they don't have the monopoly over the market. So actually you have more options not less!
