Much of what they believe is not supported in the bible and there are several passages within the BOM that contradicts itself. In fact to 'correct' an error in what Joseph Smith called "the most perfect book" they had to rewrite it because in the 1830 edition in I Nephi 12:18 he states Jesus name and at that point, he wasn't supposed to have known it. There are other things within their own faith that has been changed to go w/ the times. God (the true God) who is perfect, never changes

Jim Jones, JWs, FLDS, Pentacostals, Baptists & Quakers ALL talk about THEIR ''Christ'' & said some of the things they believed & did came from the Bible. Diverse groups. If I were interested in joining or just learning more about a group I'd have the common sense to get info from that group & people who were critical of them & impartial sources. Plus Id care enough about other people to TELL THEM about serious or multiple contradictions I'd found via any sources within or without that group.

I didn't actually intend to go into details with this. Point i tried to make is that the universe is a really messed up place. Heck, this galaxy will even collide with another galaxy and much destruction will ensue when cores merge.

Thing is, even if some of the variables our universe is based on were off, then it would just look different. Life that would possibly evolve in it would just be different from ours.

From what we currently know, the universe itself is actually dieing so it isn't much of a design. Its dispersing into nothingness and is being consumed by entropy.

One one side, you can say that this universe is someones lab experiment. We actually have some faint and far out idea on how to do this, but it doesn't explain the prime mover.

On the other side, there might be a multiverse out there, and this universe out of many was approximate enough to spawn our type of "life".

When you take into account that Genesis 1:1 was written from the standpoint of a person who believed that earth is flat, it actually starts to make sense.

In your opinion, was the "prime mover" something natural? People usually postulate some advanced super intelligence, but they do so by making a special pleading to exclude a possible natural cause.

That stance can be valid only if you got from the standpoint of a deist, not from a standpoint of a religious person.

If you go from a standpoint of a religious person, as is the case here, you have to deal with various scriptures that supposedly describe a god in human terms. Not only do they try to describe it, they also instruct you on how to worship and appease said god.

Yeah, and I disagree with the statement that prophets can't lie at all (without any nuance there). Although I think Chip would qualify his statement if you asked him. Personally I believe that a prophet can't lie when he or she is declaring a prophecy or doctrinal teaching in the name of the Lord (explicitly or implicitly).

it's interesting to note that the Community of Christ (formerly known as the Re-organized Church of LDS) was a reform movement which split from the LDS Church. They are a lot like mainline Protestants, other than that they regard Joseph Smith Jr. as a prophet (though they don't accept all his teachings, mostly just the early edition of the Book of Mormon). unlike most break-away Mormon sects they haven't re-embraced plural marriage

If God did it, then it happened from nothing physical but by something personal, i.e. it was caused. Atheism is worse than magic: The rabbit (universe) comes out of the hat and they don't even a magician to point to.

"God did it" is the answer for lazy people who don't want to do the hard work. It was used for anything from explaining lightning to why the sun comes up, and it was always wrong.
