  • Ok I'm not being a hater trust me but if you have only been playing for two weeks then I would not reccomend using a double pedal.... I've been playing for 4 years and I have a single. I play metal too. Strengthen and discipline your main foot before moving on to the task of strengthening the other. Trust me, I think it will help. Practice lots of fast doubles on a single for speed and discipline. But either way, good luck with drumming!!!

  • you should def work on ur left foot, it coming back like twice as far as ur right, you need to be more efficient

  • woa! we have the same PEDAL DUDE..

  • lol as long as you think that helps you :P

  • @xXAlecXxC Actually it did help me a lot. I had only been drumming for about 2 weeks when i made this video. It helped me develop my muscles and a good feel for what i need to be doing with my feet. I never said that this was for advanced player or anything. But this does help, maybe not everybody. I am a lot better now because of doing this. I have power behind my bass kicks, i don't tap like most people.

Any kind of practice, no matter how slow or fast will help in the long run.

  • Wow, this is a great idea. I need to get this rigged up in my studio.

  • Just a tip.. Dont do "Endurance" practices for 5 minutes, make it shorter. Go with a metronome, do 1 minute runs or such, you will get more out of it that way. :)

  • Fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap.

  • What pedal is this one ?

  • @LuucasSK Gibraltar Prowler, Single chain drive.

  • what the fuck did i just watch

  • the pillow actually help, because you won't have have any kick back from the drum head, like this, you have more endurance

  • i have these exact pedals but on my left foot, it would just go all over the place and keep slipping off when i go for higher speeds. and all those ridges in the pedals mess me up when im goin fast. any help?

  • @TheSamurai98 It sounds like you need to work on technique.

  • @TheSamurai98 the grip on the bottom not good anymore? thats what happen to mine go by like velcrow strips or something idk i just decided to by a new one on amazon

  • @TheSamurai98 experiment with moving your stool closer to the snare and if your foot slips off to the left of the left pedal move the pedals slightly further apart... i play in socks ... also get comfortable with just using your left for normal beats

  • thats a smart idea to put ur pillow over the bass drum as a mute. how did you get to stay on?

  • @thtawsomekid33 if you slide the pillow between the pedal and head it will stay no matter what.

  • @CaptainHowdySH haha nice! good tip!

  • nice

  • Got the same double pedal. Pretty nice. def worth more than the money. On a diff note. Lots of ppl say that there's a pedals sweet spot. IDK why but it seems that instead of the sweet spot going down, it's right at the middle, but my feet want to go up for no reason. IDK why. is it possible my feet are slipping and I need to put a rougher surface on the actual pedal? Need help cuz i am going quite fast with double bass, but can't keep it up mainly because my feet slip away. . .

  • @ACompetitiveHalo Well there is a company that makes "Slip Tape" for bass pedals, you could try using that but it's either going to wear away at your shoes or mess your feet up. Its basically griptape that you would put on a skateboard. Or you could also work on control, making sure your feet don't come up off the pedal a certain height, or you could make sure you have more contact with the pedal. Work on using your ankles more than raising your legs as well. Anything else? feel free to ask :]

  • @ACompetitiveHalo

    Buy a Toe stopper bro.

you might not be at the right height (throne wise) and it might be pushing your feet foward because of the angels on your knees/ legs.

  • is that supposed to be a bass drum

  • @6451adam Clearly.

  • @CaptainHowdySH I have a 424 set in my basement that I play on

  • @6451adam Put pillow so no sound. I'm sure you parents don't wanna here you play on and on practicing for an hour.

  • whats this song? i like it :D

  • @asosuk Nobody's Hero - Rush

  • Such relaxing knocking, atleast when youre not doing it yourself..

  • "Yea the pillow is kinda lame"... Dude... Dont knock it.. One of the best things you can do for practice, because it has no response. :-)

  • @psychotickurt Yeah like practicing diddles on a pillow. Builds up your muscles.

  • Nice song playing xD Rush are amazing

  • I really need to do this....

    Nice Ride the Lightning poster!

  • can someone tell me how do double bass pedals actually work, im a beginner at drums, Grade 2, but i just want some info please thanks :)

  • Do u know what triggers are? I keeping hearing about them but have no idea what they are. Ha that pillow is hilarious, I also play barefooted ive done it so long I cant even play with shoes now

  • @Utahjazzpwn Triggers are electronic sensors that sensor each hit on a drum. Sort of like making an acoustic drum kit an electronic one. You can youtube it, i suck at explaining things some times haha. I used to play barefoot until my sweaty feet became a problem. I found out about this company that makes shoes just for drumming, they are supper light and have great feel.

  • i have a really frustrating problem. i cant control me foot speed, it keeps going fast and out of countrol. its really annoying, any tips? i start of on the right beat for like 4 or 5 beats then it goes super fast and uncontrollable. pls help

  • @artachira You just need to take you're time, start slow, gain you're control. A drummer with out control is usually a bad drummer. You have to learn how to be as accurate as possible. Just spend time practicing your bass kicks with out any other body part involved, just your bass. It will help you hear what you are doing better. Also im not sure if you are playing heal up or heal down but try it the other way if the current way isnt working well for you.

  • @CaptainHowdySH i play heal up. ive been playing drums for about5-6 years now. i was hot headed and when i first touch the dbl pedal, all i cared about was speed so i just try as hard as i can to go as fast as i can but i now i cant even play a simple beat with 1/8 notes as dbl pedal..... first i thought it was because of my crappy old dbl pedal so i bought a DW9000 and it did help cuz i adjusted it to suite me best but i still get out of control. thx for tip man!

  • @artachira Another thing is, if you can go really fast with both feet and not slow with both then you could do the slower things you wanna do with your double bass you could learn how to go as fast as it would be with your double bass and just use one foot, might be fast but it works.

  • How long did it take you to develop your left foot? I feel that my right foot can go pretty long but my left is always falling behind. I have improved with double bass but it's nowhere near where I want it to be. Any advice at all? Your's looks great man. How long has it taken you and how much average time do you put in? Thanks and keep up the great work!

  • @NewYorkJets99 Well the only thing i can tell you is to do single kicks with your left foot at 90bpm. Yeah its slow but its not about how fast you are when you are developing your muscles. Do that for 5 min straight. If you mess up, start over, your calf and shin may burn a lot but just keep going. As for practicing double kicks alone, i play streams of double base for about 15 min a day with out stopping and fluctuating in speeds. Msg me for more

  • @CaptainHowdySH Thank you hold on I'll send you something.

  • Thats gonna be one fluffy pillow....

  • your foot is lower than 90 degreece , lol you gain more speed of you move youre legs further.

  • Yeah! Rush in the background :D

  • whats your tension and everything? because i cant seem to get the right tension and i just cant keep it steady.

  • @rjblackbelt The tension and all the setting is up to you man. I can't tell you what will be comfortable for you to play with. You just gotta play around with it. And its probably going to take you a while to get it steady.

  • also what does it mean when the secind bass pedal doesnt reach as far as the first pedal?did i get ripped of? or is it usually like this?

  • @crztrod Make sure your slave drives beater isnt hitting the bar on your pedal, if so there is your problem. You have to have your beaters at a certain height on the pedal, they can't sit to low.

  • i can only do triplets on bass ;[ i can't keep a stead beat like this it has to be spread apart as in breakdowns. dude anyhelp?

  • @crztrod Honestly, the only thing i can tell you from this point is to sit down and concentrate, get your feet working together, and practice as much as you can. It will eventually start to work the way you want it to, then you work on endurance and speed (if thats what you want)

  • @crztrod haha, I have to same issue. :(

  • In order to get faster speeds is this good? I've been playing drums for about 2 and a half years and I still struggle with a double pedal! It pisses me off and I don't know what i'm doing wrong. It seems I don't even know how to properly sit on my throne because if I try to go too fast for myself then I just lean and can't play.

Any suggestions? My hand speed is great!

  • @5dayslater Watch my other video called, double bass speed practice, after that, if it doesnt help at all, PM me and we can chat from there. Ill do everything i can to help you. Thanks for the comment.

  • It's honestly as simple as this kids. Sit and (WHO the fuck cares if its this slow) do this for HOURS. It's all a micro muscle workout. People are a little to considered about how others feel about what they think haha

  • what type of gilbraltar pedals?

  • @Inlistd Single Chain Driven "Prowlers"

  • @CaptainHowdySH Hey i have a practice kit in my shed and i put pillows over all of the drums so your not alone and playing on pillows is great because i get a good workout and its harder so when your play on a real drum kit WOW its so easy LOL

  • lol thats what i do

  • thts way better tahn jsut blowing ever bit of energy u have in like 2 minutes slow and steady not Rawrrrrrrr IVE GOT TO MAKE MY LEGS EXPLODE

    nice vid dude

  • @Malice2297 Actually dude im 21, i dont give a fuck what you say really. I can give all the advice i need to give, helping people is what i do, im probably half as good as you are and ive been drumming for about 9 months, you can talk shit to me over youtube all you want man, but i enjoy what i do, this video is old as shit and i have progressed way farther now. If your grandma can do this, props, i could give a shit less. Im doing what i do. Thanks for you comment :]

  • @CaptainHowdySH dude.. I wouldn't even respond to fucktards like that guy... good video man

  • @Malice2297 mate, you're a twat

  • @Malice2297 and endurance means how long you can do it for, not speed. so it's still endurance if you're going slow

  • @olliemedsy Ill actually be making a speed endurance video here soon. Its gonna hurt haha

  • @olliemedsy ok first of all fuck you secound when your going that fuckin slow your noy gonna get anywhere. obviously everybody here sucks because everyone seems to think this tempo works. let me tell you all something. i could fucking rape the shit out of every single one of you dumb fucks on drums any day. ok i have proof of that ok. ive been doin this shit so much longer than all you fuckin little kids so listen to me when i tell you if your going to do this bump the tempo at leats 20bpms

  • @Malice2297 What method you use for double pedal heel up legs, heel up ankle motion or heels down

  • @Maiden6171 Well when this video was made it was just heel up using my legs, now ive improved my technique and i use a mixture of heel up w/ legs and heel up w/ ankle along with the swivel motion

  • @Maiden6171 heel up legs. Why?

  • @Maiden6171 Doing heels up with legs can lead to injury but depends on how long you play for and my tutor use to play heels up until he had a hip problem then he got lessons off tomas lang and he told me to play heels down which builds shin strengh which is the muscle in the front of your leg i have to get to about 140bpm then he will teach me heels up ankle motion and why move your legs up and down when your legs are big, heavy and slow compared to your ankles :)

  • @Maiden6171 Well i could see the whole injury thing depending on your method of doing it, but i never encountered any problems. Heel down is a good technique but you don't get that much power out of it. Well ive been skateboarding for 12 years so my legs aren't really that slow and my muscles are developed pretty well, especially the ones that you use to do heel up with your legs, my ankles are pretty strong as well but they aren't fast.

  • @CaptainHowdySH How fast can you go on a metronome heels up?

  • @Maiden6171 I have no clue, ive never actually sat down and tried, but faster speeds are pretty easy to me

  • @olliemedsy do that tempo for 60 seconds, then bump it another 10 do that for 60 more seconds. keep doin that untill you reach a speed that you cannot keep up with. thenn work on those speeds like that everyday andy keep doin and you will slowly build up your speed and your endurance and keep pushing the tempo. this is how you do it. not by playin at the speed of slow as fuck. you can do that all day or you can do what i just said. that tempo is to slow trust me.

  • @olliemedsy oh wow you can define words well define this u fuckin 15 year old dipshit. theres no chalenge at this speed to build endurance on fuck face. if you want to build your endurance im saying you have to go at a more chalenging pace. at this pace its basically pointless.

  • @Malice2297 I didn't make this video to cause a fight and bickering between users. As much as you say that it doesn't help to use this method, your wrong. It helped me a lot, and this video isn't for a drummer who knows basic double bass. I was a beginner and i was trying to put my voice and help into the world by making a simple video. Now i have you calling somebody a dipshit and being offensive on a helpful video. Not that he did call you a name, im just not down for this type of thing.

  • @CaptainHowdySHthats cool man im sick of argueing. if this video helps then thats cool but im tryin to put the point out there that in the long run it will help to do what i said. if you wanna play at that speed fine do it for a while but after it gets easy then go faster and do that until thats easy. that help build endurance and speed and thats all i was trying to get across but everybody on here dosent seem to understand that. i learned my technique from shannon lucas so thats all ill say.

  • @Malice2297 haa. insecure ppl are cuuute!(malice being said ppl)

  • if u close ur eyes it sounds like a hardcore porno! LOL

  • @9sactown1skater6 all you need are the goat sounds and you're good to go!

  • awesome,Whats the name of the song in the background?

  • @6sic666666 Nobody's Hero by Rush

  • @CaptainHowdySH Thanks,Keep possesing regan Captain howdy XD

  • @6sic666666 thats funny because i honestly just finished that movie like 2 min. ago haha

    but i will :p

  • This is a great workout! Denis Chambers once told me to chuck the practice pads and use pillows. It really builds endurance and muscle memory.

  • yea this deffinetly helped me out a lot. i just practice with the head now, speed is pretty damn hard to get a hold of. ive got my 8th note double bass down pretty good but its just moving up to 16th and doing triplets that are hard for me at the moment. Ive got quads pretty good for some reason. I suppose im pretty good for only drumming for around a month total.

    Just practice practice practice man.

  • @CaptainHowdySH Just a suggestion. You probably already know this, but if you just consider the tempo in half you'll be doing 16th notes. Most people start by setting the tempo down to around 120 BPM on a metronome and doing 16th notes. Then once you are comfortable adjust it up by around 5-10 BPM until you find a tempo that's just within reach and continue your endurance training. If you consider yourself doing 8th notes in this video then the reason you can't get 16ths is it's 200 bpm.

  • how do you have your pedals set up? im looking for good set up for fast metal, i have the tension kinda low, and the beat angle relatively close any tips?
