Michael Callen sings "The Healing Power of Love" - 1989

I will never forget the night Michael first sang this song for me when the Flirtations were rehearsing for a Chicago concert in the music classroom at the high school where I teach. I could hardly keep from breaking into sobs. Everyone in the room was deeply touched. Michael also introduced me to Marsha's magic music and to the brilliant talent of Don Yowell, who became my friend after he died (and I'll let the world ponder that but it's absolutely true).

Even to this day I quote Michael in the queer men's work we do called Flesh & Spirit Community. We brought him to sing at a Conference AIDS:Living in Recovery in 1990. His words,songs and life changed us all. Thank you for your LIGHT Michael..it still touches us today.

Michael is one of my biggest heroes. It is hard to realize how long it's been since he's passed from this life. I put on his CDs when I need inspiration. Thank you to BetteByte for posting this video. I wish there were more of Michael.

i looked his name up on youtube after reading a quote of his in the book "the coming plague". He looks nothing like I expected- he has a beautiful voice. RIP

Michael and I were dear friends. I produced several performances for him and the Flirtations here in Chicago. He meant so much to my life and to my heart. I think about him each and every day and touch the red-striped shirt he left me. I have never known anyone as brave. I know one day we be reunited and he'll sing me his new songs.
