HAs anyone even listened to the original damn song on CD?? Leon only has accent/limited backup singing role in this one anyone (and sings great in the ones where he has a lead/co-lead role).
eqsmooth He has had some serious problems and had to have a 5 hr. surgery on his brain. Check it out, it was Jan. 2010.... I think we are lucky he is still alive and yes, thank God making music again.
So happy for Leon. The last time I saw him was in the mid 90's and they had to carry him onto the stage and the music was awful. Electric drum kit and terrible sound reproduction. He could barely get a gig in those days. I saw him in a parking lot at a wine and food festival. Perhaps he was recovering from something but he couldn't even walk. Now 16 years later he is famous again and playing w/Elton John? Amazing! Good on him.
ok so Elton can not sing like he used to in the 70s & 80s but this song would be exhausting vocally and he does not tire one bit which I think at his age is remarkable. The back up singers are awesome and Leon looks so fucken cool
don't you ever refer to Leon Russell as a corpse you idiot. you try and do the things that this man has done over 50 years of time, you obviously do not know your talent do you? You would be lucky to have half the women this man has had, and after surgery a couple months before this, he still plays piano better than anyone there is today!! educate yourselfs
@7beets Thank you, you speak the truth and kudos to Elton for making it his personal mission to bring Leon out of semi retirement to make sure that he gets the recognition he so deserves. The very first Elton John concert I went to in 1970, the year he was discovered, he was the opening act for Leon Russell. What a phenomenal concert that was! I have a good friend that worked for Leon and I met him once and he is truly a southern gentleman.
Amazing! Elton rocked that tune during his Europe Tour (June 2011) too! In Munich and Freiburg (where I was) the whole audience had a big party and were on their feet during this fantastic song!
I just saw this on an SNL rerun. I love Leon Russell but he basically has no part in this. You can't hear him sing. You can't hear him play. He's a backup musician in this. It's all about Elton John. Ridiculous.
@schwebbs84 I will do that. We saw him @ 5-10 years ago at a small venue in Philadelphia and it was excellent. He didn't talk to the crowd the whole night, but he really didn't have to.
I just watched this on the SNL rerun... Why was Leon Russell even there? Did he write the tune? Watch his mouth in closeup, what he's mouthing seems to have nothing to do with the tune.
Just curious... which of the overweight fatties singing backup is Mary Russell?
@7beets I highly doubt they do. People have forgotten the meaning of the word "Respect". And what constitutes humor for some people is pretty pitiful. There was an HBO documentary filmed about the collaboraton between John/Russell, called "The Union". It was an excellent documentary. If you ever get the chance to watch, do so.
Not... catchy? Hey Ahab? This song was in my head almost instantly after first listening and hasn't left it yet, months later. It's an absolutely exceptional song with loads of energy and catchiness.
Just a great song. Best thing Elton's done in years.
