  • Pitaya is a Mexican word for any kind of fruit from a cactus, of which there are many kinds. Dragon fruit is a merchandising term invented around 2000 for commercial sale of this specific fruit, which comes from different species of Hylocereus.

    Before dragon fruit were being grown for retail sale, these cactus plants were known only for their decorative flowers, and they were called night-blooming cereus.

  • @mentoman808 usually takes6-10 mths--actually plant needs to weigh 10lbs----3-50 days from flower to fruit depending on type
