  • i don't see whats funny at 1:06

but great song thumbs up if u agree

  • why there is no jason donovan video singing close every door?

  • Isn't he supposed to be feeling tortured and depressed in this scene? Why does he keep grinning?

  • i agree with you

  • Comment removed

  • I've never heard an applause stop so suddenly! lol

  • I once played Joseph. In the school nativity.

  • Minus the hair! He still looks the bloody same!

  • "For I have been promised a...quick grope with Holly Willoughby behind the wheelie bins at Netto"

  • i did a play of joseph

  • He has a good voice. But not a real West End/Broadway voice. Not many do to be fair.

I’m talking the mixture of strong vocals, strong emotion, and strong story telling ability within the voice.

As in, watch Michael Crawford, or Elaine Page if you want to know what I mean.

Crawford’s not only a great singer, but you really believe the guy is that character, when he sings.

  • is this seriously the grey haired presenter of This Morning? Wow well we know how the singing career worked out lol

  • @SallyLeanneBriars

Yes. He performed on the West End in his younger days

  • Too much smiling and the vocal wasnt great

  • Hahaha, now he's a grey old dude who does dacnig on ice!

  • good voice :) but his facial expressions are hilerious at times to say the least !

  • omg can't believe thats the philip schofield from this morning. he doesn't sound that bad actually. loving the hair.

  • he had to have singing lessons to fill this role but not bad is he i felt lee mead and jason donovan were the best by far but jolly good show phillster

  • He's on tune, and he has a nice voice but I miss just that hint of POWER in his voice!

  • Philip Schofields version is happy, he smiles a lot as he sings it. Donny Osmond's version is sad and vulnerable, and Lee Mead's version is angry. I can't think of Philip Schofield in the same light as before, knowing him as the daytime television host, but having seen him singing Joseph it makes me have goosebumps. What a stud muffin he was!!! The women in his life must be SO PROUD!!!!

  • Well I enjoyed seeing that!

  • this is philip schofield from this morning?

well smack my ass and call me maria!!!.....that's strange!!!

  • Great character choice to smile while singing this song...

  • sounds a lot like jason donavan in some ways. but i prefered donavan. BUT donny osmond is the best.

  • @iKeyboard15 i couldnt agree with u more donny is just amazing

  • Ok, so I really didn't understand this... What is with his facial expression? Joseph's life is in ruins, and he's saying that they can just shut him out, but he looks happy! That makes no sense at all...

  • @MrTrumpetDude

    That's not happy, that's smug.

He's saying that nothing they do to him really matters, because he is one of god's chosen children & because of that, ultimately his race will always be protected by god. Of course Joseph had never heard of Hitler. :-/

  • whats with all the snooty lttile kid singing wired

  • THE CUBE!!!

  • @camrona It's not a cube

  • He has a good voice, that's a given. However, I can't seem to feel the message of despair and hopelessness from the way he sang it -- nor can I see it in his facial expressions. But that's just my opinion.

  • had no idea he could sing! or did this!!!! lol. go schofield lol

  • omg!! he can sing? he sucks compared to Donny!! hes singing the same tone all the way to the end.

  • i love philip aww

  • 1:06 rabbit impression

    LOL

  • "The OOOOnswers!"

  • Bizarre.

  • Hair cut

  • he can sing?

  • who knew he could sing??? he does sound how he speaks though aww :P

  • never thought I would say this...but Donny Osmond is better...

  • OMg...pinkbangles is right...1:06 is retarded!!

  • well done grey head

  • I still think of him as young as I remember when he left going live to do joseph and gordon the gopher was dancing round with a blond wig on hehe

(Anyone who watched CBBC in the early 90s will know what I'm talking about)

  • Ha! I was actually one of the kids singing in the choir! So much fun! ahhh, those were the days

  • @did you go to Linslade Middle School in Leighton Buzzard then?

  • Love Phillip! Been a fan since the broom cupboard days when I was about 5 :)

  • why did he stop doing musicals ?clearly had a great voice although i much more prefferd jason donovan!!!

  • I have had naughty dreams about him. He is a cheeky and charming chappie ... lock me in the broom cupboard with him please

  • OMG 1:06 is hilarious!!!!

  • @pinkbangles2008 hahahaha you're right

  • he still looks the same but here he just has long hair!!!!but he is an amazing singer!!!

i wonder if he can still sing like that???

  • I remember seeing this when i was little at the bham hippodrome, loved it then love it even more now

  • is this actually philly willy singing? i didnt even know he could

i thought he was just a presenter (not meant in a bad JUST A way) i didnt realise his talents also lie elsewhere

  • philly willy was an all-singing all-dancing joseph back in the day!

  • wow i wish i could have gone to see him

im sooo jealous of anyone who did

  • aw this reminds me when i was in the summer theatre company in 1985 at the towngate theatre in Basildon. i was 15 years old and felt that It was one of the best experinces of my life. we had a ball!

  • Being a boy of the 80s I remember hearing that Philip had been in Joseph, but never saw it - I'm very impressed! He's quite tuneful. Some people say he's now reinvented himself in other shows, but I'll always see him as the first guy I ever saw in the Broomcupboard on Childrens BBC (notice I didn't say CBBC!) Thanks so much for uploading this.

  • I've seen him once as Joseph, so many memories. Yes Lee is a really great Joseph but i prefer Phillip by a small bit!

  • Is this.. like

    What..

    Phillip Schofield?

    o.o Omg.

  • I just recorded my version of this song and would love to get some input... good or bad! Please check my profile to hear it. Thanks for listening in advance!!

  • I knew the Scofe had been in Jospeh, but I've never seen him excpet as a presenter before. This is a suprise. A good suprise. And look at the hair! =D

    What. A. Legend.

  • wow...amazing

    why is zakwilks so jealous?

  • sang badly

  • Love him :)

  • wasnt expecting that last note! He alot better than i expected!

Is it wrong that am 20yrs old and think he quite hot!? Lol!

  • Why does he look happy

  • I went to see him twice as Joseph when i was little, i had such a crush on him when i was 12 - this brings back some nice memories.

  • Such a beautiful song, thanks

  • Lee Mead sings this song flawlessly!

  • Great voice

  • He well may have a grin on his face but he is singing in front of the Queen of England which i bet has made him very proud

  • Smooth voice

I don't prefer his tone though - it's dark, creepy. Not sad and powerful

  • I know why he's smiling - and wouldn't you if you were a pound behind him lol. Bless his cotton sox.

  • my god he can sing!!!

  • @DancingQueen0890 Kind of ! A bit all over the place !

  • @DancingQueen0890

    Well, that's debatable!

  • i tink he is smilin cause he is sayin do u worst ill be free

  • I actually agreed with this too.

It might be that it was because of where he was performing, but I doubt it. I felt that it was his portrayal of Joseph being a true biblical hero [since most of them would go unflinchingly to worse fates than he].

[He also didn't smile the entire performance guys!]

  • beautiful voice, but he's smiling eh?

  • OMG

I did not know he could sing like that :O

    hes not bad,

but it does make me laugh now,

thinking of dancing on ice haha :)

  • This is supposed to be a song of power and encouragement.. But even in "the book" it talks about how he was breaking and losing it... But still retained his faith..

He had almost given up, And then he got his break... I wouldn't be smiling the whole time during this song.. It doesn't fit it..

  • Excellent singing! I agree with others, though that the facial expression is a bit off. He's not without hope, but he IS struggling (or supposed to be).

  • well i agree with you :) i would tone down the swear words though... but yeah i enjoyed this. have a good day

  • Well it's not a performance of the actual play, it's just a variety show. Of course the expression is going to be different.

  • Great voice! I love this version. He is ooooh so handsome, too.... :-) A favourite!!!

  • I think this version is better than 50years'

  • seems like he think it was a hilarious song. He completely destroyed it. :(

  • whats the last note?

  • Great!

  • own. dingbat

  • i think it's a g#

  • i dont think the smiling was the right way to approach this song, it requires a bit of..acting?

its a sad moment in the play, he has no hope left, hes telling people to just leave him alone to decay, so...why grin?

  • i think he's smiling cos Joseph's saying no matter what you do i still believe i'm gonna get out of this, so it doesn't even matter. his last note is amazing.

  • i agree that he's smiling a bit too much, but i like his singing way more than the other versions i've heard so far.

  • its the hair :P:) loool

  • jason much better.

  • I reckon he's smiling because he's singing about how he's coming to terms with imprisonment and deciding to be strong through it. its an uplifting song.

    xx

  • lol just after 1:05 it looks like he snarles at the audience

  • LMAO SCHOFIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lmao at your lmaoing at that

  • This guy has the same last name as me lol

  • i agree with shirtlessleeves....no smiling needed!

  • He's seems a little too happy during this song.

  • am i alone in thinking he seems very cheerful for a man who has just been imprisoned indefenitely and refused contact with the outside world? otherwise, i had no idea phil could sing

  • no i agree he seems a bit *too* happy here... but he's not a bad singer!

  • I love phillip and donnie osmond as Joseph both are great :)

  • Sorry - I meant this gorgeous man & a wonderful voice xxx

  • He's no Lee Mead :D

  • Brings back so many memories of seeing him perforom this live 15 years ago. Go Go Go Phillip Schofield!!!!!!!!1

  • YES!! Go Schofield!!

  • Wow, I knew he'd been Joseph, but ive never seen him doing it. Quite a good Joseph

  • i know his brother!

  • I saw Phillip in Joseph many, many times. He was always amazing.

Even after knowing him for 22 years, just remembering his opening night in Joseph brings tears of joy to my eyes.

  • He was great at the west end. Was the first west end show I went too. Brilliant!

  • Have just seen Lee Mead in the UK for the 2nd time/also saw Jason Donovan when I wasoung - but this man who I never got to see knocks me out completely!!! I am a Glenn Carter fan xxx

  • what a god!

  • I really like his version of this song.

  • I know his daughter, beat that..

  • I saw Phillip perform in Joseph in the 80's. Loved him then and still do :D

  • god im so not used to seeing him as a singer! isnt he a presenter or something now? ive only seen him as that!

  • Since when could Phillip Schofield sing?!?!?! Why did noone inform me of this?!?!? Love to the Schofield!!!!

  • lol he's also played Dr Doolittle

    in the musical :) x

  • Just saw a clip of this on ITV This Morning so had to watch it all. All I can say is WOW, AMAZING performance.

  • A pity, i have to agree with FutureLove, he sings good, but acts *** ...the other way

  • he is fit here!!!!!

  • He looks sooooo different

  • oh I've liked his version better even since hearing him singsing this song. Finnally I have the chance to see him in video on youtube. thank u!

  • im sorry but all this song made me do is laugh

  • i think it was 1992 omigod im old ha ha

  • omigod this brings back memories im actually in this video in childrens choir ha ha in the front with pigtails and blue dungarees ha ha he was much nicer than donavan he never spoke to the kids choir but mr schofield did nice man

  • What year was this

  • I see you!

    wow you are so lucky!

    maisy

    xx

  • ha ha and me! I remember you! I was in Kentwood, orange t-shirt, white dungarees and hat on the back row, can't really see me in this video though.

    Sx

  • better singer than i expected but im sure his not meant to be smiling in this song

  • from the royal variety to presenting this morning and grey =] bin about he has

  • i have the cd of jason donovan as joseph

i watched joseph live twice at the west end with phillip schofield as joseph as a kid

i have the video of joseph starring donny osmond

i saw lee mead as joseph at dianas tribute

so i can conclude...jason donovan is the no.1 joseph and schofield is no. 2

  • actually you can't because you grew up with the others, your used to the first and there for you choose him as number one.. and the second as the second and so on and so on..

  • he has a weird nose. (Phillip not Donny)

  • I love lee mead as Joseph!

    x

  • OMG i saw him the Ist time! I agree thou- Donny is the best!

  • OMG indeed! I was in Joseph for 2 runs as a child. We was fortunate enough to be in it with Jason, Phillip and lastly Darren Day. I have got to say that Phillip was by far the best as Joseph and also the most fun!

  • OMG!! I can't believe this is him..sounds like him, looks like him but ahh he's so young and can sing..now I really can't imagine him singing, especially as he's a tv presenter

  • Agreed kofkiings and that was really not what i was expecting coda wise.

  • really good. it's always nice to see different people's versions of the coda.

  • lmao its phillip schofield thats hillarious

  • Very good, but Donny Osmond is the best Joseph for me.

  • yes, but lee mead is in at a close second for me :)

  • arr check out the barnet though! Compare it with his current salt and pepper 'do.

Gotta be honest, Donny's still the top joe in my book.

  • ride em cowboy

  • Wow so this is what he looks like as Joe

  • Not bad, but not as good as the Donny Osmond version.

  • Wow thanks for posting this. I couldn't believe it when I found it as I'm one of those little kids on stage with Philip. It was soo exciting. Any other Ruby Group kids out there???

    X

  • thought he only did "this morning and the lottery"

  • Is he wearing a karate suit and cowboy boots?

  • i think donny osman did a way better jod at the song!

  • cant believe this is philip schofield, he looks soo different

  • omg he can actually sing!!!

  • That was terrible. Yeah he sang the song alright but it's supposed to be an area when Joseph is in jail and this guy s all smiling and happy. It's a melancoly point of the show and he was way too cheery and like, (yay me I'm phillip Schoefield.) That was effing terrible.

  • You obviously are not listening closely to the song, nor do you understand who Joseph really was. He had undying faith in God, and this song is the product of that faith. He is basically saying, "You can't bring me down. I've been promised to be delivered." I hate when people make this into a depressing song. It is a song of hope.

  • Um, I know the whole story back to front.. You are right, But even in the Bible it was obvious that although Joseph thought that things weren't going to work out. And that he was sad and losing face in the prison. IT might be a song of hope.. But he's completely upset and sad and euuntil the end when the ray of hope comes through.. As I say. He does it wrong.

  • Then the words to the song should reflect hopelessness. They don't. He is clearly saying in the song, that no matter what they do to him, he knows he will receive the promises of God. If you want to make him depressed, then give him a depressing song to sing.

  • fan auckin tastic......go on philip

  • I like his voice, but I hate his way of performing the song. He doesn't sing it straight from his heart. And the hair, OMG!!

  • few things...

    wig or hair ?

whats that head shaking about ?

and he looks like a gay karate person with those cowboy boots !

    :s

    LOVE IT

  • haha i agree with the 1:08 comment. it's funny haha

  • I love Philip Schofield and saw him as Joseph in Southampton when it was touring - he was surprisingly good!!! Lee mead is brilliant tho and hard to beat!!!!

  • phil scofield is fanstastic he's what i image as joseph looks wise he looks about 15 routhly but still a good singer for saying this is the first time i've ever heard him sing.

  • lol 1:14 1:16 is real funny his voice goes mega out o tune

  • I think he's vocal sounds really odd.. out of Philip, Dony Osmond + Lee Mead Lee definatly sounds better. Very good, emotinal song.

  • 1:08. ill punch him...whatthe hell was that?

    good song tho!

  • lol, that part was kinda freaky

  • he probably saw a lil girl in the audience

  • ahahahahahahahahahahahahahah what a reaction. very creepy ahaha

  • he's better then i thought he'd be, but it's too poshed up english

  • how did you get this video so clear.

  • I didn't know he played Joseph till i watched the extras on the Joseph dvd with donny osmond in. I didn't even know he could sing! Hes actually very good!
