Music has never been about color. Dan Hartman's music will live on forever, just as the original rock 'n roll "doo wop" songs have. I never get tired of hearing "my true story," "in the still of the night." Hartman's music will be listened to long after us baby boomers are gone. It's feel good music that makes you want to get up and dance. Not the rap crap stuff that today's youth listen to and think its music.
ONe of the best Artists, Bands, Songs ever... Dan.. mega star from Edgar Winter's stable.. Hilley Michaels.. great with bands, not alot on his own.. was produced by Todd Rungren, GE Smith.. wow... great guitarists.. sat nite live band leader for many years.. can be seen at the fur peace ranch in ohio .. owned by Jorma K of J.Airplane fame.. and T-Bone Wolk.. yes of Hall and Oats Fame.. also in sat nites band.. recently passed... what a band... Dan and T-Bone... R.I.P.
I'd like to ask those morons who like to berate anything from the disco era a question: Where in your sorry lives have you heard a saxaphone as fun and perfectly melodic as you hear in this song? What was that? Couldn't answer? Yeah, didn't think so.. You and your fucking ugly scraggly hairs, your bullshit harsh guitar sound, and your perfect inability to write anything melodic. As far as I'm concerned, you paved the way for all the shit that followed.. Rap or metal, anything with no melody.
Pretty much everyone points out the famous bassist and guitarist... absolutely no love for drummer Hilly Michaels? Come on! He was in Sparks briefly and went on to record the fairly amazing "Calling All Girls" LP.
AWESOME HIT!! I llllloved this song when I was little lol...Then again on the dance floor through all my dancing, club-hopping days...But isn't that the bass player in the red vest of Hall & Oates fame?? Almost certain!

There seemed to be a lot amount of cross pollenation between music groups back in the 70s -- singers, musicians moving around. You don't seem to see that so much today. I wonder why and what impact that has on the music of the time.

I had the '45...the flip side was just as good--"This is It." This is such a powerfully upbeat song...so sad he died so young. What a gift to the world.
That's Vinnie "Vincent" Cusano on guitar and G.E.Smith on bass. Cusano, as Vinnie Vincent, played in KISS for a short period in the 80s. G.E.Smith was a band leader at SNL for many years and also played with Hall &Oates.

It's funny how some of the best musician's have incredible versatility. Dan Hartman also was a key member of The Edgar Winter Group. He wrote, played bass & guitar, and sang Free Ride!
