i had the l-300 summits in three custom cabs each, with 10 cubic ft woofer enclosures, electronic x overs and 3 power amps......sorry i ever sold them but they had started to sound a tad weak......if i'd known i could have refurbished them but i didn't have internet then and local suppliers had mostly abandoned jb/altec .......nothin' like lansing to make the music come alive
My father owns a pair of 4350s he had them for about 40 yrs now. I must say ive heard top of the line speakers, even up to 50 grand and they sure dont make them like they use too. Those drivers reproduce sound like no other speaker the tweeter has a 30 pound magnet in the back of them. They are utter beasts many ppl like to go loud which these can do but what makes them special is how it reproduces instuments and music. Sounds like its a live performance unexplainable to you hear for yourself.
@hosoken007 I guess I do like the vintage look, I know that what Im looking at is Strait up SQ and sickness. I just feel like, I would not sacfrifice looks (those looks) for the good sound it creates. I liek a nice simple T line box with some 5.25" drivers, or etc. But ya these sure look old school!
@talibe801 So you mean to say that all through the 70's and 80's I was monitoring through crap 43xx and 44xx JBL's in the studio!?! I don't know what kind of JBL's you've been listening to, but that's not my experience at all. 110db of pink noise at 3m from a speaker that weighs 118kg!?! 120db is the threshold of pain, for crying out loud! Believe me, there are no lightweight magnets or "small voice coils" here!

@talibe801, look at the cones, i bet they cant take any frequency above 100 hz, also i can bet that they also have small manets and voice coils, plus with that thin surround they aint getting any excursion
@al3x440 dear friend,i know the cones of jbl and other loudspeakers, because i work in this business for more than 20 years, along this times i instaled lots and lots of home cinema and two chanell high end systems, and jbl
always had great speakers for audio and home cinema.
lol if a pair costs around $14k, I'll go with a pair of nice Cerwin Vega's for 1k, then I'll have long lasting performance at high volume, instead of ancient cones that look like they'll burn out if they hit anything under 100hz.
dude..your collection is sick !......congrats ! could it be possible to get the schematics of the speaker box???I know for sure that I can`t get the same speakers but I can try and build the same boxe.Looks at least ...if I can`t match the sound quality.
Please let me know.I will send you an e-mail in according to your reply.
@hosoken007 How did you microphone this up in stereo and is this an actual recoding of the room itself because to get decent tonal mids and highs along with bass that doesn’t distort which is the case in many videos on this site. I’d like to know how you did? I use an SPL db metre when recoding my room and even at time a tiny hint of low end overloads the SPL db metre, if set high SPLdb level it won’t distort.
@epiphonesg007 Yeah that’s want I thought! I’ve done basic stereo mixing at a collage and knew there was something queer about the video. Its not impossible to get a half decent recoding of what they actually sound like in the room. It might take some trail and error but its not impossible. I’d sooner listen to half decent mono sound than fake stereo mix dubbed over the video.
For decent sound quality you should need a atleat 400-500 euro microphone and then use some kind of program to reduce noise and EQ it a llittle bit so it sounds about the same. :)
@epiphonesg007 Well I was thinking of using matching mic not expensive, this is only youtube remember not some high tech THX cinema! lol I could place mics around the room and have different filters applied to reduce overload in the lows while keeping a good fair mid to high range. I use at present an SPL db meter attached to the pc and it captures a fair good sound of the room, for cheap price.
I did a few videos tonight Top Gun on bluray and Avatar on bluray, one part I had teh LFE.1 up too
@epiphonesg007...up too damn high as I haven't fully calibrated the new Sony BDP-S550 into the sound system so just a few RTA tests to check out between standard DVD and DolbyTrueHD and dtshdma.
@epiphonesg007 I just turn the sub bass down when I do a recoding. The SPL db will pick up the frequency response only it will sound a bit less to me for short video or two. Afterwards I just turn it back up to where the levels ware, no big deal.
very good video!!!!

@EmpireLS56KW
The only option to reduce "overload" in the lows is by just turning the system down. :)
Using filters won't help, you won't reduce the distortion only turning the volume down.
