@SimpleSock Actually, the majority of TV comedies don't use laugh tracks these days- Community, The Office, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, Modern Family, New Girl, Suburgatory, Cougar Town, Breaking In, Raising Hope, Glee (if you can call that a comedy) then there's all the animated comedies and the cable comedies. CBS continues to use them (2 1/2 Men, Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly, How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, 2 Broke Girls) but they are the minority.

@peanutbrittle50 Unfortunately, the CBS sitcoms, on average, get better ratings than the other network comedies despite, IMO, being generally worse shows (I hate laugh tracks as well, I think they bring down otherwise good shows and and make unfunny shows infuriating). On the other hand The Office continues to be a big ratings success and Modern Family is the highest rated comedy on TV right now.

a.) Everyone else is a woman or not-white (or both). Pierce is an old man who has been shown to be both sexist and bigoted to a degree.

b.) Jeff is clearly the leader, and he both respects and envies that.

c.) Because it helps move the plot along.

BBT is the tasty fast food of comedy, and "Community" is that incredible diner run by a family invested in what they do that's always strapped for cash, and yet always produces the best damn food you're ever tasted.

@rdloop When the Simpsons were in their fifth season (like The Big Bang Theory is now) it was the best show on television, not just "eh, it doesn't make me want to poop down the throats of the writers, but it's not great." Hell, even Family Guy at the time had a better track record than that. Settle for mediocre programming if you want, I just don't think there's enough time in the day for that.

To really compare it to The Simpsons, you have to wait until TBBT is in it's 25th season.

I love this show. I love TBBT, too. If there is one thing I don't like about Community, it is that some of its overzealous fans have a serious inferiority complex regarding TBBT. Want to do something productive other than whining about the popularity of TBBT? Petition NBC to move Community to a different night/time. Yes, Community was there first, but TBBT is more popular and thus will not be moved by CBS. To save Community, get it moved.

I LOVE this show, but I never saw it as having a really long run, because they can't all be in college for 8 years. And what are they gonna do after senior year in Season 4 - go to grad school?

@MoreMedication I went to a community college for 2 years and there were people there who were not going full time. They were working full time and taking a couple of classes. If the people on Community are only taking 1 or 2 classes a semester it would take them quite a while to graduate.

@Saintnick90 You laugh now, but when the BNL were just getting started they were booked for a function/concert at Toronto's City Hall. But our (then) insane mayor, Mel Lastman, thought it really was a band made up of nude females, and had them banned. The resulting publicity did wonders for BNL. (And no, it wasn't a publicity stunt, as Mel sadly lacks a sense of humour :)
