In America we had rave parties but there was ZERO mention of this on the radio or tv programming. The corporations decided that only certain genres such as r'n'b, country, and rock would be allowed on the radio. It was almost impossible to hear techno on the radio and completely impossible to hear happy hardcore or gabber.
