  • I have been thinking that its not possible to compost outside in the winter time?Is that true or false? If its false then I have wasted alot of time i could have been making compost?

  • @arkansastrash320 Compost slows way down in the winter. It can keep going in the heart of a large pile though. In my home pile i collect the food scraps in a four gallon bucket. When it's full i run hot water on it and pour it on the pile or rather in the pile and cover it with leaves. That revives the life process for a while. - Marty

  • @organotill Thanks for you help i will try that. Thanks

  • The black plastic keeps the outer edges of the pile from drying out so the pile continues to work clear to the edges. It is also good to cover the pile during rain so it doesn't get waterlogged. It shouldn't get too wet or too dry. Observation will guide you.

  • what does the black plactic do for the leaves ?
