Ron Paul's ideas are fantastic, but you would want someone closer to John Stossel or Glenn Beck on the ticket with him than Colin Powell if you actually understand what he stands for.

An analogy...
Data suggests aircraft are a very inefficient way of traveling, that produces excessive CO2 emissions. From the viewpoint of an environmental activist, it would be a good thing to do away with airplanes.
But you cant just ground all planes over night, it would result in chaos. A system has been built up that needs reforming or replacing. Saying "end the fed" or "end income taxation" is over simplistic.

Ok so both things affect oil prices. My point is inflation is slow and constant at around 2% a year and hence unrelated to any monthly flactuations in oil price that you speak of.
And given the lag involved in the suply chain of any market, change in demand does not affect prices instantly, it takes time to balance out.

The gold standard is not a feasible option. Gold has no more intrinsic value than paper, it was only used due to it's rarity. If there is no interest charged on borrowing money, then there can be no interest paid on investments. Could that be a good thing though perhaps.

What we have now doesn't work. Too much fractional-reserve banking. It multiplies the money supply. Adding eventually to inflation. The cost of oil has gone up because of this, the oil companies are just making tomorrows money today.

You can also still have fractional reserve currency under the gold standard, whats eliminated is the interest rate charged by the fed. The fed is the 3rd party leech on the banking system. It charges interest on fake money it loans to the government. The government then has to turn around and pay it back at some point with interest. Overly simplified. Proof and point. The demand for oil has gone down in the last month, yet prices are still going up.

If he gets a good staff and running mate I believe he will be an unstoppable force in the 2012 presidential run. If Ron Paul gets the Republican nod I'll do all I can to support him. I like Dr. Paul, however I don't think he can win a national election. Additionally, I like the leadership, the experience, the wisdom, the morals, that Mitt Romney would bring to the Presidency. Unless someone better surfaces I'll be supporting Mitt in the primary.
