Fascinating to hear what sounds like an alternate take. Difference is subtle compared with the single that got all the airplay on CHR and AC radio in '78...the key's just a half-tone lower, instrumentation different in the break, and the fade is different. This may have been take 1, the single (a little higher-pitched and just a touch faster) take 2. Anyone know how to reach Walter Egan to find out?
@BobWXXI They may have sped this version uo in the mastering..it was a secret trick done way back wjen everything was recorded onto Reel toReel recorders. If they wanted the song a little faster, they just grab the knob and do it (!!!). Of course the pitch would get a lil tweaked,too..but no one seemed to mind to much. The Eagles (who are brilliant) had this done on some of their early work...if you are in tune..you'll find it hard to play along, because someone tweaked the master.
This song is awesome. If you don't like it, just move on. It represents a time in some folks lives which was very cool, so try being nice. You will actually get alot better results with some kindness. Peace always...
@longbeachk1d C,mon man,its just music for fucks sake, that's all.I never said that to piss anyone off.The comment up top was "Fuck Rap"That's why i said that.
@sopitabo If you're going to listen to rap listen to good rap from the early to mid 90s..that rap has died out and replaced with awful crap rap of lil wayne 50 cent..the only surviving talent from the early 90s is Jay z and he's become evil with his agenda and greed..
man, i have always loved these songs that haromize like these people do..the sound is a tad off, but it brings back the same memories. At least for me
These songs are real and true, full of soul, seventies rock is etched into my being forever! Thank you to all the artists of this era for following your hearts and pursuing your dreams.
How does this happen, I know I have heard this song before, but don't know where? Movies maybe? I listen to cd's usually, and never any modern pop stuff (rarely) just whatever I'm into, and I am on a tangent music trip, started w/ Atlanta R Section, and brings me here, and I swear I don't listen to 70's radio, but I heard this before...weird.
Awesome music. Reminds me so much of my youth. Such happy days. All that I will listen to is this awesome music of yesterday. Has so much meaning to it. These songs will never die. They are engraved in my heart. Such happy days that are gone and are just memories now.
This is a more enhanced version or a remix, there's more keyboard and the backing vocals are brought way up, also the lead guitar has a different sound. Not complaining, it sounds great.
I actually went to third base listening to this song in the back seat of my boyfriends car!! i will never forget that nite! The music and the times back then were so innocent and carefree it was totally an excellent time to be young!!!
@davidhalldurham - This may be due to the fact that 2 of the backup singers are Stevie Nicks (Egan wrote this song for her), and Lindsey Buckingham. The third backup singer is Annie-something she did background vocals for FM's single "Sara."
I remember when this song was popular, I used to go to a topless club after work with my buddies and drink a few beers and watch the dancers, one gal used to always dance to this tune... very sensual. I always think about that whenever I hear this song.
Have always loved this song , and never knew that Stevie Nicks sang backup...Just a great song after all these years...eat your heart out lady gaga , we will see if anyone is listening to your junk in 30 years...
Love this song... Brought back allot of memories... My husband (of 32 years) heard it going to work the other day on the radio and found this on YouTube and sent it to me... it brought back all kinds of old memories... LOVE this song no matter if it's the original or a redo....it's GREAT and still brings out the emotions which is what music is about....
love this song! but it dont sound like the one from the 80s? cuz stevie nicks and the other chick from fleetwood mac did back up and this is def not them.. lot of copy cats out there today that sound so close its hard to tell. still great song tho.
A 1977 Southwest Florida High School gymnasium packed with 8th and 9th graders. It was a time of horny innocence. It was time with stoners hanging out at the gym delivery doors, sneeking a joint and the preps pretending with their mid-calf skirted trophies sipping Gingerale and berry punch. I hung with Zoner and Cindy, bored out of our minds until a cute little dish named Jacelyn stepped out of her comfort zone and asked me to dance.
Well pretty damn close. The only difference is I think, the background vocals don't have the added Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham on this one that is on the radio version. Plus a very slight difference on the instrumental, but very slight.
I remember when I first heard this song. It say so much and it open a way for someone who is shy to say just the right words and yes it is, lust, passion , and letting someone whom you trust take control, of your love and lust !!!!! Lovely and passioniate song !!!!!!!!
This song takes me back to my days in High School. Driving to the local hang outs and just talking with friends and that special young lady was a memory of a life time. Those days are long gone and the young people now have been cheated. The parents of the teens have failed their children. Schools are now in shutdown and most kids fear going to school due to the violence and stupid that goes on now. The 70's will never be repeated. For those who lived it they will only know what I have stated.
@CrimsonChampions OMG!! You are so right!! I listen to these songs & close my eye's & I go back to the 70's.
Then at some point, I have to come back to this time. I feel so old now. I wish we could've stayed in the 70's for ever. But back then, we didn't mind going into the 80's but we sure had no idea of what was in store for us!!
For you are a Magnet and I am Steel... brilliant lyric, perfect encapsulation that shows the attraction, eroticism, love, hope, - but above all, love.
Ok back in my day... Sex was no biggeee... We were the generation that had it all bustin loose... So Stevie wasn't a whore... None of us were... It was just a different time and for the first time women were being allowed an equal voice in life! Men can fuck around and it's called sowing oats! Man I hated that double standard! I'm 66 and don't regret one thing I did!
It's funny & even sad how we went from great soft rock like Billy Joel, Walter Egan, Toto, Wings, America, Nick Lowe, Carole King, Fleetwood Mac, Al Stewart, Todd Rundgren, LRB, Ambrosia, Firefall, Player, 10cc, Gary Wright, Gerry Rafferty, Gordon Lightfoot & James Taylor to very depressing soft rock from today like Coldplay, Maroon 5, Adele, Avril Lavigne, Colbie Caillat, Mat Kearney, Keane, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, Corrine Bailey Rae, Duffy, Katy Perry, Amy Winehouse, the Fray, etc.
@bucky468 Yes it is sad, but then again the days we are living in are reflective of the sentiment in which those artist of today sing about. They don't know what was like to have long hot summers, care free get togethers, fast cars, thin woman with feather hair and mellow vibes (not all bitchy/needy like these girls 2day). Forgive them for what they do knot know they missed. At least they have Facebook and sexting. yeah :(
this is the first song i got laid by. man, i hated this tune but after all these years this tune is the best! by the way the chick was a dog! but you have to start somewhere!
Stevie Nicks was exceptionally good looking back then, and she was apparently loose when it came to lovers, so who knows if she had a thing with Walter Egan or not. Only they do, I guess.
