  • how heavy is the door?

  • Good stuff

  • are u sure it is the ground staff opens the door ?? is it not the purser ,?

  • i look forward to working with qantas when i grow up!

  • Why don't they use electrically opening automatic doors? I have a pretty good idea why

  • When you pull the arming leaver down, the slide which is stored in a basin (the large sticking out part of the door on the inside.) The slide is stored in here. When the door closes and the door is set to armed, the slide has like two metal slats which fall and lock into two catches on the sloor. The slide is now locke din place so should you open the door, the slide will inflate. Thats what I remember from cabinc rew training!

  • What about a 747 takeoff procedure?

  • What happened to door nobs? :-)

  • Why do they need to make the opening/closing so complicated? Couldn't it just be like a minivan door with a single button and then it slides open?

  • @gsully224 It should not be so simple. If it was so simple, we would have more UA 811s than you think. Sometimes people don't close doors properly. This was the reason why UA 811 happened a long with AA 96, THY 981. It is made difficult by purpose.

  • Just wondering what is a csn

  • lol

  • i love watchin these they are so funny

  • I fly the 747-400 Longreach all the time, from Johannesburg to Sydney and vice versa!

  • geez, Quantas dosen't let the flight attendants do nothing!

  • Did she say 'if the plane drops unexpectly' so Boeing needs to fix these planes "Beoing we need your help our plane B747 just dropped unexpectly"

  • @XboxJT1 No, its the cargo and people moving on/off the aircraft, the plane like your car will drop with added weight. some up to a meter or 3 ft

  • Cool.

When ever i;m flying on a 747, and some one needs me to close the door, I'll know exactly what to do...

  • just wanna know, what does/is the 'safety shoe' for/do

  • @pilot588 the safety shoe will drop the aerobridge down and set off a warning, so the door doesn't hit the floor.

the bridge is normally automatically leveled with a tiny wheel on the side of the bridge tracking its movement

  • I just love the Qantas Longreach! Fly on it everytime from Sydney to Johannesburg!!!!

  • just say I'm TRAVOLTA!!!

  • Is it possible to open/close doors without assistance from the outside? And how can that saftey shoe protect the door from damage if the plane drops? The weight is too much.

  • @n40798 the shoe is for the jetways purpose

  • @JayPattersonTV like if a heavy person gets on!

  • @n40798 of course it's possible to open the doors from the inside when on the ground.

but why should the plane drop while parking? which shoe are you talking of?

  • @n40798 , yes most airlines open doors from the inside, Qantas doesn't because it's a premium airline and has extra staff to do that for them.

  • @n40798 When it says "the plane drops" it means when it drops slightly when the aircraft is loaded with cargo. Not when the landing gear fails. There is no hope for the door at that point : )

  • @n40798 it will make the jetway drop down, until the door is no longer pressing on the safetyshoe. The plane will rarely drop, but it may sink down as the plane is loaded. but as redtail said, there is an other mechanism that tracks the movement of the fuselage, that should rise and lower the jetway, so that the safetyshoe is untouched.

  • Qantas should teach us how to fly a 747 instead xD!

  • hell yeah! :P

  • @psgman41 maby Qantas need to teach us to flu an a380

  • thanks lol

  • y did i just watch this? lol

  • well

in case you ever need to open a 747 door,

    you'll be happy

  • LOL, because you never know when you might need to do this.

  • but this is my thing, if i ever need to open a 747 door, ill just look at the directions on the door. lol

  • I want to get the video for how to open the upper deck doors :)

  • I had to 3d model a 747 door for a game development company and this video helped a lot, thank you!

  • How does the emergency slide attach itself to the floor when its activated?

  • I think it comes out of the side of the door, or maybe it comes out? Google-image search will probably help you more..

  • @Tinmaster10 , in the floor are two notches on either side of the door, when you hear , arm doors, this engages the slide into the notches. so if the door is opened without disarming, the slide will pull and inflate

  • @Tinmaster10 when the emergency door is open the slide will pop out flat then a couple if seconds later it will inflate. strings are attached to the slide and attached to the plane cabin door floor so that if you land in water the slide wont disappear or when its on the ground the slide will not fall off. some slides will have a handle to push some dont. some just pop out when you open the doors.

not all doors have a slide only emergency doors.

  • @ 1:25 , if you look at the inside handle (the one to open the door), theres a box there. In the movie Air Force One, theres a button in the box to make the door detach from the aircraft. Does that feature actually exist?

  • Absolutely not!

Inside the box, there is a small striped green lever that is used to arm/disarm the slide-raft system.

    Never trust hollywood!

  • lol

  • @fastzeek thats not true, the air force one aircraft IS equipped with auto-door eject in case of major emergency or security threat!!! Read books people, and don't awnser if you don't know. Cheers fastzeek

  • Does any one have a video or know a video that shows the 747 cabin door opening from the inside?

  • I think, that yes. Search on YouTube or Google "Door Operation from Inside"

  • Yes that's where the slide is housed.

  • What is the bulgy thing in the door? Is that where the slide is located?

  • Yep

  • Yes.

Search for Emergency exit or slide.

  • What is scm

  • Its CSM and it stands for Cabin Service Manager

  • thankss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What does the gurd bar look like?

  • There was an accident of a South African Airways 747 Combi back in the late 80's i think. There was a fire on board and they opened the door while flying :) . Just wanted to say that :)

  • yeah, i just watched the crash investigation on it 1986 i think, and opened the door to clear some smoke,

  • yeah, i watched it too long time ago. I cannot make up my mind whether it was a good or a bad idea to open the door... I think they said it made things worst. Idk who opened it but they're crazy cause it could have soaked ppl outside the plane. On the other hand, if they had opened the door and went back to an altitude where there is no oxygen, that might have put the fire out... Not sure it's realizable though. But anyway... crazy story.

  • crazy indeed but if they went to a safe alt and opened the door, a certan amount of oxygen came in, fire spread? it helped some pax, but i remeber hearing that a passenger has 60% carbon dioxide in his system or something, sad thing anyway,

  • always about the passengers!

  • What will happen if you kick the box containing the escape slide? And whats a gurd bar?

  • nothing, if the door is disarmed.

  • Now superman will know how to open a 747 door during flight!

  • What does the safety shoe do???

  • it basicly protects the plane from hitting the jetway because the planes is loading and tends to push down.

  • Thx.

  • To open the door from the inside: To open door for passenger disembarking or catering, you simply check to make sure the door is "disarmed" by push the switch to the green "disarmed" position. Then push the door handle in the direction indicated on the door to open the door. (The door on the 747 will pop slight inward so be careful to stand back a foot.) Finally, push the door out. It will lock itself against the aircraft's fuselage.

  • how do you open the doors from the inside?

  • i saw it

    its crazy

  • AT Pearson YYZ, the cabin crew always opens the doors, we just knock on the window once we have docked the jetbridge.

  • Hey, what the fuck does the safety shoe do...??? What he says doesn't make sense... The plane can't just fall and that small shoe wouldn't do shit...?

  • dude, the SAFETY shoe moves the bridge if the auto leveler dosent work, as the aircraft suspension compresses with weight from passengers or cargo the door will move up and down. it will drop very fast and open the canopy. try next time you fly, it'll scare the crap out of you and everyone on the bridge

  • Fuel as well

  • Notice, the safety shoe is connected to a cable. It works something like a sensor

  • btw after listenig to this 50 times he did say buttfly handle!!!

  • did he say buttfly handle?

  • Close. It's a called a 'butterfly' handle because of its winged shape when released from the stowed position.

  • oh...but doesn't it sound like he says buttfly?

  • It does...perhaps he had something else on his mind

  • lol he definitely did!

  • butt and fly - two sides of the same pair of pants

  • lol or a fly that hangs around your butt

  • no sounds like he says butt-a-fly

  • I found a second bar at the top of the door near 2:15-2:30 at the top of the door, if no one noticed

  • hahahaha surely if the plane drops, the door will be ripped off, if it means the landing gear fails or something, i dunno

  • When the aircraft arrives its relatively light, which makes it sit higher. When it is loaded with fuel, baggage and passengers again the gear will compress a bit causing the aircraft to sit lower. From what I gather the safety shoe senses any drop and adjusts the jetway so the door doesn't get damaged.

  • Just wondering how a qantas safety video made it on to You tube I thought that these vids would be quite severely controlled.

  • Intersting, I worked as a dispatcher at Birmingham UK (EGBB, BHX) and we never opened any door unless asked (which was never..although we were all trained on a 757-200), Qantas must have a different rule. If im not mistaken the 747,757, 737 all have pretty much identical operation, the 777 however does not, and opens like most airbus a/c..i.e it does not "swing" open but "slides" (kind of). The 767 is both manual and automatic and slides upwards into the upper Fuselage, like the MD-11

  • it looks so easy but it's not

  • staff staff staff

  • GR8 Video! Does anyone know why the 'Floor Track' folds in and the door goes into the Aircraft before coming out?

  • Because its too big and thick, and its designed that way

  • Because its too big and thick, and its designed that way

  • The door must go into the aircraft before coming out because while the aircraft is pressurized, the pressure will push the door out, sealing it tight. Just a precaution against an accidental opening.

  • The door is known as a plug-type door. To open the door, it first has to be made smaller in height and in width than the cutout in the fuselage it fits into. This is done by rotating the hinged flaps (known as gates) at the top and bottom of the door inwards, while at the same time 'cocking' the door about its forward edge to make it effectively narrower. This motion is controlled by a cam attached to the handle. The door's outward motion is then controlled by a hinge and track assembly.

  • That's WELL KLKL Dude, Even though it is only a door: It kinda looks fun to open and close :)

    Will you be posting anymore?

  • right.... maybe like a normal a 330

  • i would b kinda nervous to b in a plane with u lol

  • Awesome...im going to try that the next time im flying

  • Get permission first. Hahah.

  • wts a safty shoe?

  • *Safety* shoe.

It's a kind of switch which is wired to the passenger bridge's control system. If the door touches the safety shoe, the passenger bridge will automatically lower to prevent damage to the door.

  • Why will it be damaged if that happens?

  • i think the door of the a 380is electronic

  • yh it is but i think open it manually for emergency slide deployment i think but i know it is opened electronicly for normal usage

  • nice..

  • Thanks!!! I "LOVE" it! I'd love to see 767 door...please

  • it's a training video, what did you expect?

  • I KNOW SERIOUSLY

  • its for ground crew training, if you dont like it dont watch it

  • Do you have any videos of the 777?

  • im thinking of being cabin crew this could really help me

  • lol, straight from Qantas i love it! hehe

  • Nice video! Would love to see one about the emergency use of it!
