@mculloa7 It does matter matey. You have to set it on Diode Function.Reason is,it give's out a small current to switch on the IGBT's Gate.Check your manual for the multimeter.
Thanks, I am a beginner, working on a damaged inverter. The part looks fried, but according to your test, it is OK. I may just replace it though. It shouldn't be expensive. It is so hard to find anyone in my area to repair electronics, i just had to give it a go myself. Inverters are so expensive.
@whisperingsage Sometimes components tend to fail under load. You're lucky, its so obvious. If it looks Fried,Replace it&Check the Surrounding Components. This is a Mean't to be a Quick Basic Fault Finding Test.A more accurate test can be done using a 9v voltage source& a light.Lookup testing a mosfet and apply the same theory. I will make a video soon showing how to build your own Mosfet/IGBT & Regulator Tester&Backlight Bulb Tester when i get some time.Good Luck
Good video chief, but need to be careful with the statics in certain kind of IGBT's good job

@tarytary1 Very true matey.Everyone,if they have one available should use a static arm band.Good Tip.

I don't understand what the multimeter should be set to before testing? Does it matter where I have the dial set to?
