  • @spexis : Thanks :)

  • ~. ~

  • Did that pot ever break coz he's hitting it with real force

  • @giriisindahouse

That pot is called Manamadurai Ghatam is its no ordinary pot. Its made with extreme care(thickness of the pot is even throughout) with little brass mixed with the earthen-ware and is capable of handling even free-falls

  • oooooooooooooooooh god.. omg

    my favorite..

lmfaoooooooooooo the best ever ever ever

is there any website i can download this type of songs for free? omg very funny i love them hahahahaha

    0:50 head dance

    1:00 hair dance

    really professional work.

  • amazing!!! great groove!!!

  • respect the guy.. he's awesome.. but his hair.. omg.. i cant stop cracking up!

  • just so you know, this is Vikku Vinayakram, played with Shakti alongside John McLaughlin of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jonas Hellborg and also Mattias Eklundh to name just a few who you may recognise...

  • Zakir Hussein as well I believe.

  • brilliant

  • awesome

  • it's instructional, not skill show

  • hes sexy lolololol

  • His son, Selvaganesh, is pretty versatile and imaginative

  • THATS WHAT SHE SAID

  • hahaha good one!!

  • the real head banging!! awesome play

  • gracias,fantastico!

  • Play the clay !!!

  • Vikku is an amazing ghatam player but nowadays Umashankar is not living up to the name. Kartick sir is doing a better job at that.

  • Ameerjamal...If u dont appreciate the talent n the musi...pls keep ur mouth shutted! He is not the retard...I think u r so full of ur self to even pass that kind of comment!

  • chill after chill runs down my spine when i look at vikku ji.

john mclauhglin says that vikku was responsible for all of the rhytmic composition with Shakti in the 70s. Zakir himself says he learnt everything about carnatic music from square one with vikku.

and what a man selva ganesh is. beautiful.

  • Thanks dnikhilrao. isnt it amazing that those shakti rhythms were actually composed by Vikkuji ? Seeing his virtuosity, one is hardly surprised. yes His son Selwwa is another maestro, and I believe modern drummer mag rated him top 5 percussionists in the world. Vikku's other son UmaShankar is for me,the best ghatam player. See him on some of our other videos on youube. v=Vikku has such a inspiring family of maestros...brilliant yet so humble. Thanks for your comments and sharing your thoughts.

  • there is a pricelee clip on youtube, titled "vikku and zakir shakti"

vikku is so simple and innocent, and zakir pulls his leg a lot. its beautiful.

  • Thank you. Amazing. Inspiring. I love how he's so into it and he feels the music with all his body. He is one with the rhythm. One with the vibrations. Vikku playing with L. Shankar on violin and Zakhir Hussein on tabla is one of the most inspiring and potent combinations EVER! As an aside -- I saw a really good ghatam player last night with Prasanna -- his name was S. Karthick. Check him out too!

  • Thank you Sushumna..feels great when others are as inspired as we were producing this performance/instructional DVD. yes you said it best - vikku is completely one with the rhythm. I have heard Karthik too, and he is very good, though I didnt know he plays with Prasanna. thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  • Vikku!!!!

  • omg!hes pullin all of those sounds out of one!!!

  • Brilliant piece of percussion.

With such a simple instrument, look at the variety he has produced. And with what control and balance of sound.

It needs maturity for appreciating such stuff.

  • Chaprapist, thanks for your comments. I agree completely on the level of maturity required to truly appreciate Vikkuji's genius on this piece. Even to get this sound is impossible for "regular" folks..We have the same ghatam he is playng here and can't even get a tenth of the dynamics he is getting ;-)

  • I completely agree. I have studied this instrument now with T.H. Subash Chandran and V. Gopalkrisnan, and I can tell you, it is amazing to see the wonderful playing of Vikku. It is genuine. I'm thankful for you posting this clip and that we support these artists. The music's impact is immediate and sincere and that cuts through the comments of unknowing critics. Vikku's articulation is distinct and personal. And I never thought I'd be able to recognize the differences between ghatam artists.

  • Thank you Omradio. I have a lot of respect for your works and appreciate your music production with Subash Chandran in particular! It is important that we support these maestros in bringing their genius to the larger music community

  • shut up u ignorant tard, hes more musically inclined and rhythmically talented than you could ever wish to be.

  • SUPERRR BRAWOOO

  • Ghatam is my favorite and I love it even more when no other instruments are detracting from them -- it's awesome to see a whole Ghatam Asemble
