The verse 2:6 is telling that many of the disbelievers will not accept the truth whether you warn them or not. The people who do not want to see the truth get their understanding barred and so God says that HE has blinded them. It is not God who blinds them but it is the effect of their own thinking -AUTOMATIC effect of what YOU make an effort for.

Qur'an 2.6 As for the Disbelievers, Whether you warn them or you warn them not it is all one for them; they believe not.

For understanding 2:85, you must read 2:84.

It tells about the Jews , who are the people of earlier scriptures given to them from God who asked them to support their kith and kins and not to expel their own peopl from their land but they did the very same thing that was forbidden to them . Then when they came to them as refugee , they suppoted them saying that we are following God's command to support them.

While it was wrong for them to be expelled in the first place.

Those who will follow Him through His signs will get reward and those who do not follow will go to hell and as a generation of people mankind accepted that covenanat .

I know a women here in Holland who lives in an appartement block with a lot of muslims. Since they've got to know that she's a christian and not a muslims, they don't respect her anymore. They don't greet her, they don't shake her hand, and some even turn away when they see her. It's not really a respectfull religion.
