Adding graphics to NetHack takes away some of its innate challenge. Which is good, since the game used to kill me with strong critters that look like weaker ones.

I switched to tiles, so now I know which beings to zap with the finger of death spell (or whatever instadeath you happen to have handy) and which ones to just kill off manually.

Still, I sometimes manage to die after 1 turn (frigging poisoned spike traps) sometimes.

I hope you're joking. Maybe you don't play it, but it doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't. Also there are tilesets made for this and at least one isometric version.

Not really. I'm playing through Falcon Eye, which is nethack with grahpics, played at a 3rd person view instead of straight top-down, and it's the same in every respect.

Frankly, it's nice eto have an actual visual to accompany everything. It's more fun sometimes to play with actual character sprites instead of just keyboard characters.
