The dissenting Iraqis who fought militarily against the illegal US occupation of Iraq and hindered its goal of securing OIL wells were automatically branded as Saddam Hussein supporters by the US govt, so the fight against these dissenting masses which involved KILLING innocent ppl in their own country, destroying their cultural heritage, their property, their land was totally acceptable in the eyes of US govt and the ppl who supported "War On terror".

Is this guy a historian or what? Who would read anything written by this complete idiot? He stated that, "all wars are wars against children". He makes some weird analogy about killing 100,000 American children ending WW II and would we do it? The point dropping the bomb in Japan is that it was a way to end the war, the ONLY WAY! Is he suggesting that we could have killed 100K children in our country and that would have forced the Japanese to surrender? It's so convoluted as to be asinine.
In a way we went to Iraq because of majority. The iraq war resolution (authorization for use of military force against Iraq resolution of 2002) passed the House of Representatives by a majority of 296-133 and the Senate by a majority of 77-23.This is the irony of majority!
Um... America is a republic, not a democracy. Simply put, democracy is direct government by a majority (such as France became in 1789 and Iraq is now) and a republic is representative government ruled by law (the constition). This is not elitist pontification, but an annoying ignorance made by most people in the world including very smart people, and I agree with some of what they say, but I wish more people would get this right.
I think they were using democracy as both the false pretense of society presented by our leaders, and used as justification for U.S. actions, and also as an ideal for which activism strives. Having read his book, I know he is aware of the nature of our political system. I believe he even uses the word republic several times.
But when the representatives DON'T represent the people and harm the tennants of the constitution it can be abolished by the people and surely than we can critize it !! Peace.
jfeucht82 Democracy and republic are not entirely different.Going by your own statement "republic is REPRESENTATIVE government ruled by law". the representative is elected by the majority that is also found in democracy.
Yeah, but the majority don't rule. Seriously, if the majority had their way in this country, things would look a lot different. If we're really a democracy, why are we still in Iraq?
Pat bombs were dropped to quicken Japanese
