  • Охренеть! Да это же прям ЯПОНЦЫ!

  • Ohio University Marching 110 copy all of their moves and performance from the one and only world reknown Florida A&M University Marching 100s. The Marching 100s started all the show band style of marching back in the 1940's. From that point on HBCUs copied them and now white colleges. The OU Marching 100s are a fake band who needs to acknowlegde they are coping their show from FAMU and other HBCUs.

  • @thrlmccoy2 Someone has some severe butthurt going on.

The 110's style is noticeably different than HBCU's and Corps style - it's more of a blend of the two. The 110 is actually based off the Michigan Marching Band, or at least how they were prior to 1967.

Funny how all these snide remarks come only after a video went viral. Come on, HBCUs were highlighted in a fucking blockbuster movie. How dare a group of non-HBCU kids get recognition for doing what they love to do!

  • @SedStrat

My remarks deal with the fact the marching style (show band) is from HBCU. The show band style has always been something that HBCU has been doing for years. And after many HBCUs marching bands (FAMU, Grambling, Southern, Jackson State, and others) have been in movies, commerical, the Grammy, American Music Award, Superbowl, news and other forms of media then this was when (sorry to say this) white marching bands began taking notes and started to copy their style.

  • illuminati

  • @chiponMiddleC born to be my baby

  • Very entertaining. Thanks for sharing.

  • Bellissimo

  • FUCKING NICE! AWESOME!!! GREETS FROM GERMANY!

  • WOOOW It is soooo AWESOME..!! i come from Denmark, and we dont have this kind.. I am speachless.. :O

  • OHIO U GO HARD!

  • Best moment: when the crowd started singing. The amount of energy and team spirit in that stadium is tangible..even through a video.

  • whats the name of the first song??? pls help me

  • @klopstock23 "Born to be my Baby"

  • Hey guys, try to remember that marching bands and football teams are different.

OU : An original, classical Corps entertainment marching band.

Big east, big 10, ACC, SEC bands : park and bark big bands.

  • I know for a fact high stepping isn't cake at all. In my high school's marching band show last year, we marched high step. This year, the Middle Voices, (Consisting of four saxaphones and two mellophones, myself included) march high step. OSU MB is beast and amazing.

  • Now this is what I call real drill design... to whomever designed this, you forever havemy respect! This show was a jaw dropper! We march a simular style, so I know how you feel! I love it.

  • @bobmama1234 The drill was actually done by one of the (at the time) current members, Josh Boyer

  • they're the best because the crowd actually gets EXCITED to see them! the AUDIENCE loves the 110.

As for me, I enjoy OU way more than OSU, why? Because they play popular songs, and their new aged, OSU is good in all, but their a little old-fashioned for me.

  • uhhh you guys need to Check out the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes. We know whats up!!!!!! We have 470 members (including gaurd) and 2/3's of our band are pretty damn good music majors. Our songs sound VERY good and our drill ranges from some lines to many curves. and on thing we are great at is EXCITEMENT and ENERGY!!!

  • If i transfer to OU next year (which im hoping i do), i will be in this fine band

  • People always use the excuse that one band's style is so diffeent from another's, therefore it is not possible tosay who is better. BS. That's a copout. Technique is technique, and musicainship is musicianship is musicianship, no matter the style. Y either have it or you don't. Not all collegiate cheerleading and pom-pom squads/dancet eams hae the same styles. Yet, they manage to have competitions every year and judges routinely manage to determine which squad is better than the other.

  • Being enthusiastic and having high enery alone does not make for a grat marching band. OU may be all of the above, but they are not among the elite in college marching bands. They try to emulate a style associated with historically black college and university marching bands. They are similar to USA, ut notas good. I sam them in the 1993 Inauguration parad and I was not impressed. Ohio State was in the same parade. I followed OSU. U have to be good for me to follow you.

  • @MrOu83 you are a complete idiot. The 110 emulates no one. The style is their own. Their intensity is untouchable. Their musicianship is better than OSU's. Last time I saw OSU I laughed out loud. They do nothing but ride on the prestige that was given to them years ago but never live up to their name "The Best Damn Band In The Land". OSU is cheesy and overrated. OU is intense, powerful and performs for the audience, not to them.

  • @MrOu83

So you're the deciding authority on talent? This group is better than most Big Ten bands, and the sound is comparable to my 300-piece Spartan Marching Band. Also, THEY'RE HIGH-STEPPING.

Neither MSU nor OSU does that for halftime shows. And to be perfectly honest, these forms are a lot more lively than any I've ever seen (or done) in a halftime show.

Finally, the worth of a marching band is decided by how well they entertain the crowd. Do the fans seem entertained? I'd say so.

  • HEY wassup (BWB2006) NAW i never heard of him .but thank you for the facts.Ohio university's band is good .their marching style is very clear and persistent.

  • i first saw the OU marching 110, three years ago, at Ohio Theatre. ever since, i've been itching to join them. in my opinion, they are the BEST. i enjoy them over OSU band. their sound is smooth and their moves are coined. my High School band STRIVES to duplicate their amazing-ness.

their dirlls are simply amusing to watch, and their simple because they DON'T try to take away from the MUSIC during drills.

that's what marching band is about.

  • Gotta love that old school style.

  • point: doesnt take 20 minutes to produce a quality show.

  • gives me chills everytime i hear the crowd singing with the 110. I miss it so much! GO BOBCATS

  • @msou110 'Hio to that. I was a freshman in '05, I remember being amazed by how loud the crowd was. OU fans are the best in the country.

  • @alanbailey101 hahah thats whats up

  • @wildandcrazymanberta well they are the shit because they were voted best college football band in america.

  • I love it when people argue about marching band. C'mon guys, it's just different styles. Each band has it's "thing" that it is good at and its crowd expects. It doesn't make either one better than the other. Some bands go for full sound and good tone quality, some bands focus on dancing, other bands focus on volume, others focus on complex/intricate drill. All that matters is this: at the end of the show, is the crowd at its feet? If you can do that, fine. Everyone likes different stuff.

  • i see alot of southern university in the moves they do in this show. nice

  • can't wait to play with them next fall.

  • you guys are good ,but famu is better, but i like yall

  • @tavious954 Have you heard of Sylvester Young? He's a Marching 100 Alum who served as Director Of Bands at Hampton and OHIO UNIVERSITY. He one of the few Rattlers I show love to.

  • after watching a few vids of drum corps, college marching bands seem ridiculous.

  • Drum corps are pretty boring because they all play the same music and do the same routines, playing their horns sideways and other crazy things. A college band take far more work-- learning all new charts every week and new routines weekly plus going to college classes. And, entertaining college students-- far unlike the spectators at drum corp "competitions." Who do you think make-yp college bands? Many are from drum corps and they are sometime decent members, too.

  • I can see what you mean when you say that drum corps are boring because they perform the same show all season. I think of it as 'mastering' a show, versus an 'entertainment' and 'jack-of-all trades' sort of show that many college bands put on.

I respect certain drum corps a lot more than bands like OU because of that dedication to excellence.

  • Boo on you. If it wasn't for college and college-type bands we WOULDN'T even have any drum corps.

  • well its best in the us

  • lol, my hs band did a bon jovi half time show this year... you give love a bad name, wanted dead or alive, and livin on a prayer :P

  • "Drill is not hard at all"

Well no shit, sherlock. Try marching the style, then open your smart-ass mouth.

  • @bailesie If you can't run with the big dogs, keep you're fem opinion to yourself.

  • @MontetheCarlo

"big dogs"? Didn't know high schools were considered as such ;)

  • It's all about their high enthusiastic energy level that makes them so good. No one can compete with their pride.

  • if they had 400+ people...famu wouldnt stand a chance

  • thank u

    sorry guys

im ot hating but famu is the best

famu brings what no one else can

  • @Nae2112 well considering the 110 was voted best college football marching band i will have to respectfully disagree.

  • saw ohio band when it was ut vs ohio! Ohio band was amazinggggggggg - definitely enjoyed ohios band more than ut's that day.

  • lol

  • Not Bad...Not Bad at all

  • I was at the Ohio-UT game tonight. This band is great! I enjoyed their show a lot! I wish I was able to do shows like this at NC State the last few years. I made sure to tell you all you were great as you all were leaving Neyland. Glad you all could make this your one big road game.

  • nope not by a chance....go to the game tomorrow and see. they did there show today and it is unbelevieable(spelling, i know right???lol)

  • I'm a huge UT fan, the pride of the southland IS amazing, but I saw these guys practicing today, and they are incredible!

  • so did i! who are you??? they were at Maryville High School!!! im in the drumline what do you play?

  • i LoVe iT

  • I'm a Senior in the Brookside High School Cardinal Marching Band (Sheffield, OH) right now and I'm SOOOO relieved I found a college band that has fun cadences and ground drills becuase I would've really missed those things after I graduate this year.

Marching band is my favorite thing to do more that anything =]

  • i wish high school bands would do stuff like that our shows would be way more fun

  • THIS is the best band in the land

  • The Marching 110 is a show band, they do the things they do for show and it makes it exciting. OSU does the things they do because they're more about prestige. Trust me, the 110 is a great band, I've seen several of their performances. I've also seen several of OSU's performances, which were great. I'd rate them both at a 10/10, but they each have their own unique things they do.

  • go toledo rockets!!!!!!!!!!!

  • marching band is bomb :))

  • super

  • did they made a tekst of people in the stadion

  • what are they doing between 4:45-520

    or something?

  • What the 110 does. DANCE.

  • The 110 is smaller than OSUMB by close to 100. OSU is also an all-brass band. As far as tone quality, it's like comparing a fine opera singer to Freddie Mercury. Is either better than the other?

If it's William Tell Overture, fine...give me OSU. If it's Bon Jovi, give me OU. They're different, so stop comparing.

"Physically demanding" is truly an understatement when describing the marching style.

Both bands and their fans should be extremely proud of what they do. End of story.

  • I'm glad the 110 merits your comments, bucknut! You know, since they are a 'crappy band'. Glad you wasted your time!

  • marching is tough, but over rated. Dancing band is tough too, and fun. GIve me the 110 any day

  • Well...

    OU doesnt just have fun.

    They work extremely hard.

They give 110% for every performance... hence the name "Marching 110".

They work as hard as OSU.

It's just OSU focuses on different things than OU :]

  • Military is where you hit your sets. (OSU)

Party style is where you just have fun. (OU)

I am a Junior at Circleville High School in Ohio...we have a military based band... I hate it!

  • Are you kidding? I marched with the 110 for four years and it kicked my ass every freakin' year. Even jamming was done 110%.

  • I hope you are as proud of the 110 as us alumni are. I graduated in 73 and the best memory of the time there was the 110. Awesome band.

  • holy crap.

  • There is no getting into comparisons here. Both bands are the best at what they do. My son is in the 110 and I am and OSU alum. They are both fun to watch for different reasons.

  • I love the part were the crowd is signing.

  • ha mine too

  • Mine too!! I just got my acceptance letter yesterday....i'm transferring though, are you a freshman?

  • my band director was in the 110 and she works us soo hard because she like wants us to live up to these guys expectations....its hard because these guys are perfect!! and they are the 110 mosted talented musicians!!! lol...

  • Made my eyes water. You don't get that kind of show at OSU. Loved hearing the crowd get into it.

  • Way to represent your school. I know many people in the OSU band and I guarantee they would not approve of such banter. I appreciate the OSU band very much and respect what they do, but these two bands cannot be compared. They're each good at what they do, hands down.

  • whatever...have you ever saw these guys in actually life? just not on a video on you tube? the only reason why most people go to the OU games is to see the 110 and then they leave after half time...so yea...they are amazing to watch. they make you jaw drop.

  • This is true. There is nothing like them anywhere. This video slaughters their sound. Most of the HS bands in Ohio want to be like them. Ohio State is big and has a big sound but they just can't do what OU can do. Sorry.

  • If TBDBITL wanted to do what OU does they could. Maybe you should go watch a summer session or two and find out for yourself.

  • "If TBDBITL wanted to do what OU does they could"

But they don't, and why would they even want to? They're both good at what they do and has earned them good reputations.

  • All I know is that I love this Band and everytime I step on the field I have a blast and so does our crowd. And if you are questioning our work ethic come to any of our practices. I have no hostility towards the OSU band, so stop trying to compare them and just enjoy them.

  • @flubanuma yea but they dont

  • As an Ohio State fan and student, I agree with bailesie. I go to Skull Session often and was there to watch when Ohio U. visited this year. Very impressive performance.

That said, I disagree with the notion that the OSUMB "can't do" what the OUMB does. There is simply a distinct difference in style.

I think comparing the OSUMB to the OUMB is like comparing apples to oranges. The OSUMB emphasizes militaristic discipline, while the OUMB is high-energy. Both are incredibly talented.

  • It should also be noted, as far as I'm aware, OSU has summer rehearsals, weeding out competition for the few coveted spots. Whereas with the 110, the majority of the cuts come from the percussion section. Trust me, the incoming freshmen are EXTREMELY talented (especially in recent years), but we don't have the numbers to choose from as other colleges may.

My point - the 110 does what it does best. Taking ALL the kids and transforming them into better musicians and ambassadors of the University

  • i want to be in the 110 SO BAD but i have to switch instruments! they have every section EXCEPT flutes :(

  • hah yeah I know what you mean. I used to play flute but I switched to alto! there are actually tons of ex-flute players in a lot of sections lol

  • my school happens to want to get the flutes out because they aren't in the OU 110 and our basic marching style is the OU style with the high step and calf extended with all the regular 4 count and modified stufff

  • i marched 1993 - 1996.....makes me cry.....but please don't let anyone break the block!!!!!!! titties!!

  • This video always reminds me exactly why I love what we do.

  • This is waaaaaaaaay better than the cal band video game show!! Awesome sound too.....dang!!!

  • You know, I always considered the 110 to be a dance band more than a marching band (in fact I spoke to the director once and he said that "they don't come here to march OMEA style; they come to dance!") but I must say, you put forth a lot of sound, you don't swagger all the time like I expected (some reason I thought you guys did), gotta say you guys rock!

  • The only thing that you could compare them and say is similar between the two is that the roots of both college bands and drum corps is in the military. They have just ALL taken different directions as to what is standard for them.

  • awesome xD..wats this song name?

  • I marched with the 110 from 1997 to 2001 and watching that video brought a tear to my eye. It's beautiful. Please remember that may have been the first and last time they performed that show... that was Saturday afternoon... Monday at practice they received a new chart and all new music, all of which were memorized before practice on Thursday, so Friday could be spent polishing for Saturday's game. I'm sure DCI could do that, but they don't.

  • ma dai

  • I agree it is not fair to compare most college bands with DCI corps. I have only seen one college band that can even approach the quality of a DCI and that is, IMO, by far the best college band in the land - the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners. As far as I know, they play one show per year and often it is comprised of DCI charts.

  • Nice of you to prove the point. DCI bands play one show a year. Many college bands play five or six.

The TV station I worked for most recently sponsored Drums Along The Rockies. A collegue is on the board of The Blue Knights. I've been to many DCI competitions, and frankly, find them dull.

I've heard Malaguena too many times.

I'll commend the 110 for playing to their most important audience -- the students.

    Listen to the ovations.

DCI bands are good, but the arrogance gets old.

  • I am not sure it is arrogance. You cannot really compare DCI corps (corps please...not bands! :) ) to college marching bands, even those who mimic DCI style. Even the best college bands cannot spend all day, nearly everyday all fall perfecting a show.

As for Malaguena...can you hear that too many times? *grin*

  • Click on College Sports Previews, then College Sports Articles:

#1 - Ohio University Marching 110 - "The Most Exciting Band in the Land!" is a perfect moniker for the Ohio University band that ranks as the best band in college football. With their physically demanding marching style, high-energy performances, halftime dances and strong support of a football team that, until 2006, was mediocre at best, it doesn't get any better than Ohio University's band.

  • The Marching 110 has been named the best football marching band for 2007 by CollegeSports-Fans . com.

Probably for good reasons, YouTube doesn't allow links to be published, but you can figure it out from the above.

As a participant in the formation of this band 40 years ago this year, it is great to see this affirmation.

  • so did we im from east knox what bout u

  • I just marched with the 110 in their band day over the weekend. It was truly amazing.

  • are you serious so did i!!!

  • we played thanks for the memories by fall out boy with them during halftime

  • This is a personal opionion only, but while I salute the work and passion involved, I find most DCI performances to be pretty much alike. It's a matter of preference.

The Marching 110 has been thrilling crowds, getting standing ovations and having crowds dancing in the stands for 40 years now.

At most college stadiums at halftime, a large percentage of the crowd goes to the bathroom or concession stands. Take a look at the crowd in this video.

    Nobody leaves.

  • @tvdirectortom DCI is a completely different league college marching bands are meant to thrill crowds as u said but DCI is Competetive and for the most passionate of Musicians

  • this show is easy to march but it still looks so cool!

  • plus in addition to having to learn it in under a week, we also have to make the drill so we get back into dance block fairly easily. that probably limits it a lot i would think

  • i love this song and this video is freakin awesome.

  • This brings back great memories of my days at Ohio Univ. in the 1970's. Still brings chills to my skin !! Love it.

  • ok, for the last time. DCI corps take upto 2 months to learn their drill. Our drill is written, Music is arranged, Percussion parts are written and the dance is written all within 2 days. We spend the next 3 days learning it. So saying that "DCI is better" is an ignorant statement. Anyone with ANY corps/College band experience can clearly make a distinction between the two and appreciate the levels of difficulty that pertain to both.

  • For those of you who liked the drill, thanks. To those who think the drill wasn't complicated, you're completely right. Keep in mind though we learned this drill in about four days...DCI bands work on and make their drills better over the course of the entire seeason. The 110 performs 5-6 different shows a year, depending on how many home games we have each season.

  • Thats my big......

  • easiest show ive ever seen, I have a band with kids below 16 who can make a better show then this. Music is nice tho.. and not een american style ..

  • HIO!!!

  • Love the way the crowd sings LOAP!! Wicked!

  • Man, whoever did this is some kind of drill writing genius!!! Seriously though, good work jayboy.

  • that is sooo awesome! I was in marching band all through high school and we totally kicked butt, but we never got to play anything like that! so lucky! I would have died to play bon jovi! so cool when the crowd starts singing!

  • this is great stuff, I wish we had got to play Bon Jovi when I was at school, I might have stayed in the band, all we got to play was classical stuff, so boring. Fab band. Keep up the Bon Jovi

  • Very cool band. Go Ohio! You took it from a very nice angle man. Now I can see the band movement and configuration very clearly

  • haha sweet, my roommate is the PA announcer in this clip!

  • Love it! That was soo cool when they made the OU!

    : D

  • Where did the "I" come from in the first drill?

  • Great squad drilling!!! *thumbs up*

  • LOL...That was great! I wish we could've played some Bon Jovi in the "other" (University of Oklahoma) OU marching band...good job!

  • As a member of the "Pride" you might be interested in knowing that the gentleman who started this tradition at Ohio (playing rock and roll and dancing) is a guy named Gene Thrailkill who, as I'm sure you know, was the director at Oklahoma for over thirty years.

I am proud that I was the announcer at Ohio when Gene first started "The 110."

  • I should mention that the comment below is a response to Magikkmann earlier post.

  • Yeah, for the past 39 years or so, the 110 has been the main attraction for all of the football games. But hopefully that will change!

As far as being known, I'd think it's fair to say that we're doing just fine in that department ;)

  • Damn right we are. I hope we beat the pants of Central Michigan and whoever we play in the GMAC Bowl.

  • Ohio University Marching 110 is very good....it sucks that you guys don't get as much hype over.

Being a student at The Ohio State University....Our fan base is just crazy over our Sports...Football,Basketball. etc...& The Best Damn Band In The Land.....The Ohio State University Marching Band

  • This is Ohio University Marching 110. Its not a HBCU marching band

  • Haha, glad to see you got the full show! You can kinda pick me out... Starting at the 1:00 mark, look at the 30 yard line on the right side: second row from the back - that's me on snare, woo! :)

  • Nice.

  • eh...

  • This is more rock and roll than mick jagger in a cement mixer
