Religion was founded at the purpose to control the society. It was another way to make laws. In these days it is still used as a tool for law in less developed contries, but in most western countries I think it is used to give the "weak" hope for the future.. Most of the strong and rich people, do not care about religion - only thing they believe in - is status and money!!
Religion was not founded to control society, religion was founded to explain the things they couldn't. To bring sense and order to a world that seemed out of control and frightening. It is true that religion is often used and sometimes created to legitimize law or rule, but that's not its essence. That's human nature creeping through. I believe they said it in Farscape: "Religions are lofty ideals, religious followers, however..."
I have a feeling the world and what we worship is all about balance and the Goddess of all is alive all around us. She is the Spirit of All That is Holy...
Well that makes the story of worshippin the Virgin de Guadelupe so much more powerful. Those who give praise and love to her (sometimes moreso than God or Jesus) almost worship her as the Goddess of Earth. So.... yes?
thank you for answering my question. I do have one more.. Please, If its possable i want to have this video as a download.. i would hate to lose this no matter what!!
This video is wonderful. I So loved the movie and this song is a perfect fit. I would have never thought it was a Christian song. This was the first time i had heard the song as well. What is the name of the album so i can look for it?
What a beautiful example of how the old religions and the new can work together.
Is there any way i can download this so i can have it in my archives? I would hate to loose this for any reason.
It is a Christian Song. The Mists of Avalon is a movie about the ending of the Old Religion and the Coming of the New, the transition from the Way of the Wise long ago to Christianity. The way of the wise never really died, and Wicca is an offshoot from it. Nevertheless, the blend of this beautiful Christian Song which I love and this beautiful Arthurian Tale of what once was is incredible. True Christianity and Wicca need not be enemies...
And look at texts older than the Bible. Who says that the Bible (which is MUCH later than many world religions) is the way to go? I frankly believe it has just as many fallacies as any other religion.
It is true that true Christianity and Wicca need not be enemies but itis difficult to discuss such ideas with a people set on 'my way is the only right way" mentality.
I will ask again if there is any way I can get this video for download. I would hate to lose this for any reason...
I agree with you, Loch. I am a Wiccan and proud of it! But I hate that people think Christians and those of my own religion need to fight. There is nothing to argue about ...
Watching your video was the first time I heard this song. I actually thought "Perfect Time" was a part of the movie, since your video was so in sync. A+
You can find the lyrics on the web-site "la musique de celtique", there ist a page about maire brennan, you must choose the album perfect time, there you get the lyrics
I have followed the christian-pagan discussion here with interest. I´m not a christian, nor a devoted pagan, but for me, it is quite irrelevant wheter this Brennan song is a christian song or not. It´s a song for anyone who want´s to feel better or learn more about the great mysteries... Whatever they choose to call them!
Was there not a war in times gone by between Shiites and Sunnis because they wanted to be the dominant religon and were willing to kill each other because of it. i.e.- My religon is better, believe in it or ye shall die.
P.S. I think all religon is a farce concocted by greedy snakes who use it for their own purpose-to screw the working class.
Yes, doesn't it seem ironic, since you bring it up, that a lovely song about one deity so aptly reflects the sentiments of those of another religion? Clue: it's all about agape (that's "selfless love", by the way).
You know, the lowest form of criticism, absent simple logic, is the belittlement of beliefs that don't conform to yours. Try not casting stones. Isn't that what Jesus would do?
you're completely wrong. 'Perfect Time' is a Christian album from Maire (Moya) Brennan who is not denominational, but a Christian. Read her autobiography as I have.
The song is asking the Lord to teach her...nothing to do with wicca!!
Maz59:"you're completely wrong. 'Perfect Time' is a Christian album from Maire (Moya) Brennan who is not denominational, but a Christian. Read her autobiography as I have." - No, I´m completely right. I´ve also read her biography. I told "her family" is catholic, and it is indeed (including Enya). As to Moya herself, remember she once performed Ave Maria and a tribute to St. Francis. Although she is not a catholic (I didn't say she was), Moya is not protestant either.
Whether it was originally meant as a wiccan hymn is irreverent. I can see both angles and the song can easily allude to the Goddess as well as the Christian god. Blessed be.
Are you asking me what's my job? Well, I've been going to school full time so I don't really have the time for a job. But, after I finish my summer semester, I'm going to apply for a job, at a Bank...then I'll take classes at night, and work during the day...That's why i hate golf, they cut down thousands of trees, so stupid old men can play their pathetic game of golf Lol...
I agree, for most people today, nature is nothing. They don't think twice before chopping down thousands of trees, killing innocent animals for one's own pleasure, polluting the oceans, the air etc. You see, I believe that one can have respect, honor, and love for nature, but one must worship the one who created it-God.
Real Christianity says to teach not to force someone. You should read the Bible again, you will find these words there. Anyway, Nature is Good and Good is Nature. But today, for many people, nature is nothing, the most important thing is money and power...
now i ask you. have you ever asked God."is there anything you can give me"? you ll never know until you do that, and i promise you that you ll get answers. BTB
when jesus was speakin to satan i desert he was just repeating what is written i bible. because no one could beat satan in dialogue exept god father. We can spend whole life in chating and it could be nice but we could never meke each other think diferent because some things could never be explained with words. all we heve to do is to do is written in bible.
i dont want to change the way you think, i just would like you to do one thing. dont speak with anyone abaut it... just try to bring joy to your family today. even if nobody understand you... just continue to do this for few days... i will pray for you. Ivan
from croatia... satan exist because even angels have free will... and he used it against God. he beleive in God more than anyone, but he dosent want to do what is written in holy bible... Thats the diference between catholic and others... we beleive that it is not only abaut fait.. we have to do good things! just try to do this and you will see that God exist! Amen
You make some sense, I understand where you are coming from, you worship in your own ways, you don't believe in going to church or belonging to a specific cult, there are many people like that...Ciao!
I sometimes wonder that about Satan myself, that's one part of my religion I have some issues about, since God is the all-powerful, why does he let Satan exist? I agree with you about that issue.
If I were my father, he would have told you that you were a lost soul, and that you are far from the truth. I feel that one doesn't have the authority to do that, for one day they will be judged.
The qoute has some truths, but I still can't accept their being other "gods" when there is so much written about God. I too don't look to convert you...I truly believe in God, from scripture and through personal experiences.
I do believe there is one true religion, I can't understand how people can worship gods or animals. My good friend is Indian, and I don't and never will understand how they can worship a cow, but I'm not going to stop being her friend b/c she has different religious beliefs. Sure, I'd like to see this passage
We can go on and on, but I don't believe you can convince me, and I can't convince you. You hold strong pagan beliefs, just like I hold strong Catholic beliefs.
I can give you a long list of why animals were created, even sharks and tigers:
Companionship, food, clothing, transportation, sacrifice, to illustrate that "the hand that made us is Divine", to give enjoyment to children, to serve man in a multitude of ways, etc.
A Cat Goddess? There is so much evidence about God, and who he is...what about saints, how do you explain some of their encounters with God? Have you heard of Padre Pio, he's popular in Italy, I'm sure you know of him
God is revealed through scripture, the bible, revelations. We must have faith and belief that he is God-I think that's something you don't have, or are confused about
I don't believe that Islam is correct in any way, but I applaud the followers for how dedicated they are, when their are people who claim they are Catholic, yet never go to church or say a prayer.
God created nature, therefore it is pure, but he didn't create animals to be equal with man. He created animals as a resource for food, so how can they have souls? Maybe we are talking about different souls than you are, being Catholics...animals are not made in the image of God, like people are.Animals have an important place in God's creation, and in our hearts, but they cannot become part of the Kingdom of Heaven or the family of God like we are!
You can still be a Catholic and respect nature. It's a pure religion-before the Vatican had its influence on it. Look at St. Francis, he is the patron saint of animals and nature-and he's a Catholic! God created nature and all of its wonders, so you are right for honoring and appreciating it, but paganism is a "religion" of people long ago, those who didn't know a God existed and created what they worshipped.
Catholics forced others to change, because they truly believe that it is the only religion of truth-they are in a way helping those who don't see the truth see it. I am a practicing Catholic, I go to church every Sunday, holy days, confession, etc. and I honestly believe that Catholicism is the only true religion.
very beautiful. Blessed be.

So.... yes?
missalissao 4 years ago
At the end of the movie you see nuns praying to the Virgin Mary. I wonder if they realise they are praying to the Goddess...Just a thought....

Lochinvar111 4 years ago 2
look anywhere in the Bible, and see if you can find it where God said it's ok to mix with other religions' ways.
solowings 4 years ago
And look at texts older than the Bible. Who says that the Bible (which is MUCH later than many world religions) is the way to go? I frankly believe it has just as many fallacies as any other religion.
missalissao 4 years ago 2
It is true that true Christianity and Wicca need not be enemies but itis difficult to discuss such ideas with a people set on 'my way is the only right way" mentality.
I will ask again if there is any way I can get this video for download. I would hate to lose this for any reason...

I agree with you, Loch. I am a Wiccan and proud of it! But I hate that people think Christians and those of my own religion need to fight. There is nothing to argue about ...

Great video - great song!

The music fits perfectly, I like it when Viviane and Morgaine part the mists and Maire Brennan sings something about wings, that was cool!

Was there not a war in times gone by between Shiites and Sunnis because they wanted to be the dominant religon and were willing to kill each other because of it. i.e.- My religon is better, believe in it or ye shall die.
P.S. I think all religon is a farce concocted by greedy snakes who use it for their own purpose-to screw the working class.

so ironic. a catholic song from the catholic family of the Brennans used as pop-wicca propaganda... :(
hpsleite 4 years ago
Yes, doesn't it seem ironic, since you bring it up, that a lovely song about one deity so aptly reflects the sentiments of those of another religion? Clue: it's all about agape (that's "selfless love", by the way).
You know, the lowest form of criticism, absent simple logic, is the belittlement of beliefs that don't conform to yours. Try not casting stones. Isn't that what Jesus would do?
aembermoon 4 years ago
you're completely wrong. 'Perfect Time' is a Christian album from Maire (Moya) Brennan who is not denominational, but a Christian. Read her autobiography as I have.
The song is asking the Lord to teach her...nothing to do with wicca!!

sorry, my last comment was to hpsleit.
I don't know why reply links are under each comment if that doesn't become clear chronologically.

Francis. Although she is not a catholic (I didn't say she was), Moya is not protestant either.
hpsleite 4 years ago
Maz59: "...nothing to do with wicca!!". That´s EXACTLY what I was trying to tell ;) I´ll comment it later.
God bless,
hpsleite 4 years ago

Belezza23 4 years ago
I remember nature, I love it... My job is connected with it... and I must fight to survive... This is world today...
Neelor 4 years ago
Real Christianity says to teach not to force someone. You should read the Bible again, you will find these words there. Anyway, Nature is Good and Good is Nature. But today, for many people, nature is nothing, the most important thing is money and power...

:) what you beleive is written and inspired by man.
what i beleive is inspired by God and written by man.

when jesus was speakin to satan i desert he was just repeating what is written i bible. because no one could beat satan in dialogue exept god father.

Amen

One more thing, you seem to like movies by Mel Gibson, have you ever seen The Passion of the Christ directed by him?
Belezza23 4 years ago
You make some sense, I understand where you are coming from, you worship in your own ways, you don't believe in going to church or belonging to a specific cult, there are many people like that...Ciao!
Belezza23 4 years ago
I sometimes wonder that about Satan myself, that's one part of my religion I have some issues about, since God is the all-powerful, why does he let Satan exist? I agree with you about that issue.
Belezza23 4 years ago
If I were my father, he would have told you that you were a lost soul, and that you are far from the truth. I feel that one doesn't have the authority to do that, for one day they will be judged.
Belezza23 4 years ago
The qoute has some truths, but I still can't accept their being other "gods" when there is so much written about God. I too don't look to convert you...I truly believe in God, from scripture and through personal experiences.
Belezza23 4 years ago
Don't be offended, but with if those others are deceivers, you know, there is someone named satan...
Belezza23 4 years ago
I do believe there is one true religion, I can't understand how people can worship gods or animals. My good friend is Indian, and I don't and never will understand how they can worship a cow, but I'm not going to stop being her friend b/c she has different religious beliefs. Sure, I'd like to see this passage
Belezza23 4 years ago
We can go on and on, but I don't believe you can convince me, and I can't convince you. You hold strong pagan beliefs, just like I hold strong Catholic beliefs.
Belezza23 4 years ago
It was written by men who knew God, his apostles and disciples, they knew his personally.

I can give you a long list of why animals were created, even sharks and tigers:
Companionship, food, clothing, transportation, sacrifice, to illustrate that "the hand that made us is Divine", to give enjoyment to children, to serve man in a multitude of ways, etc.
Belezza23 4 years ago
A Cat Goddess? There is so much evidence about God, and who he is...what about saints, how do you explain some of their encounters with God? Have you heard of Padre Pio, he's popular in Italy, I'm sure you know of him
Belezza23 4 years ago
God is revealed through scripture, the bible, revelations. We must have faith and belief that he is God-I think that's something you don't have, or are confused about
Belezza23 4 years ago
You say pagans don't believe that, but do you?
Belezza23 4 years ago
You can't even call the Vatican or its followers Catholic anymore, they are sort of a new religion
Belezza23 4 years ago
I don't believe that Islam is correct in any way, but I applaud the followers for how dedicated they are, when their are people who claim they are Catholic, yet never go to church or say a prayer.
Belezza23 4 years ago
Christianity puts man at the center of the universe, because we are here on earth to serve God, that's why he created us.
Belezza23 4 years ago
God created nature, therefore it is pure, but he didn't create animals to be equal with man. He created animals as a resource for food, so how can they have souls? Maybe we are talking about different souls than you are, being Catholics...animals are not made in the image of God, like people are.Animals have an important place in God's creation, and in our hearts, but they cannot become part of the Kingdom of Heaven or the family of God like we are!
Belezza23 4 years ago
You can still be a Catholic and respect nature. It's a pure religion-before the Vatican had its influence on it. Look at St. Francis, he is the patron saint of animals and nature-and he's a Catholic! God created nature and all of its wonders, so you are right for honoring and appreciating it, but paganism is a "religion" of people long ago, those who didn't know a God existed and created what they worshipped.
Belezza23 4 years ago
Catholics forced others to change, because they truly believe that it is the only religion of truth-they are in a way helping those who don't see the truth see it. I am a practicing Catholic, I go to church every Sunday, holy days, confession, etc. and I honestly believe that Catholicism is the only true religion.
