Hi, I really enjoyed this video, it helped me master the timing and which spells to use in certain situations. Thank you. I was also wondering which addons you use for your dots and cooldowns (like the soul burn timer)
How do you get the cooldowns to appear on the screen cause I have to look down at the number keys to see when it's off cooldown what was it you got from curse client exactly? Thanks :]
Hey, as you know the new 4.3 Hour of Twilight instances are mainly based on AoE damage, there a a lot of groups of mobs that requre quick blasting AoE, as a destruction warlock i am finding it difficult to be able to pull any more than 7k dps AoE damage :/... What do you suggest in this kind of situation?
Destro is the worst for AOE of the 3 specs unfortunately. The best tactic in this situation is to target each enemy individually and apply Immolate and use Shadowflame on cooldown. Shadowfury can be used too if Immolate doesn't need reapplying on any of the targets. If you have nothing else to do, you can use Rain of Fire... But the damage output from it is ... pathetic... to put it nicely =p.
@samisealo My thoughts exactly, and okay then i will deffo give that a try, but for now i'm gonna try running affliction, it seems to give me a better dps output
Upside of Destruction is better burst whereas affliction gives more survivability and sustained damage(Duh, it's DoTs). What's strange is that despite doing everything I'm supposed to I still dont do very well with affliction so I've changed to destruction, for some reason I get better DPS with it, perhaps because it's a more comfortable playing style for me^^
In a real situation, you have to take in to account all the additional buffs you would have from a raid (Dark intent procs, BL, Focus magic, BoK, Arcane Int etc...) + all the additional debuffs on the target (Though I don't know many of the names I'm afraid, DK's Ebon Plague is a good example though, or Druid's Faerie Fire).
Also you have to take into account the execute phase which boosts your DPS by ~ 20%.
according to the sims craft, destruction is now 2nd best in single target dps. the thing is that all 3 trees are best in some way or another so you cant daytheres a definite best. demo is best in large aoe and melee range single target, destro and afflic are better in long range single target, afflic is better during heavy movement etc
Mana feed in 2nd tier demonolgy is almost necessary (= less life taps = more time to cast = more DPS) and we have to put the points somewhere, any of the top tier skills are plausible, but this is overall the best place to put those points utility wise.
Haven't run the maths on it yet, but with the recent Improved Soul Fire buff it may close the gap slightly.
Affliction will still be ahead single target only, however the gap may be reduced enough so Locks who want find destro more fun can go destro without the fear of losing too much DPS =).
If you're lucky enough to get a Sub or Combat Rogue I recommend using DI on them. Sub Rogues crit just about every second (no joke). Every Eviscerate will crit, every Ambush will crit, and they stack the hell out of haste so their white dps crits constantly. It's pretty much a guaranteed 9% periodic dps increase giving DI to a Sub Rogue. I would imagine Combat as well, but I've not played a Combat Rogue recently so I can't say, but definitely Sub will be a huge huge huge DI proc-fest.
DI only procs from periodic effect crits I'm afraid. A straight up crit won't proc. For instance, it would proc if you had it on another Warlock and their corruption Crit, but it would not proc if their shadowbolt did or any other non periodic effect.
@samisealo Aaahhh...ok then, Druid healer would definitely be the best bet. Thanks for clearing that up. Although, Sub Rogues do keep Rupture up just about 100% of the time, but it's kind of meh as far as crittage goes. I think if you had to put it on a Rogue then, it would probably best be a Mut rogue since they have their poisons going constantly and they crit more frequently than a Subbie's Rupture.
i havent watched the affliction guide so i may sound like a real dumbass but for destro when your around 365+ il shouldnt u be reforging mastery > haste if your not close to that extra tick on immolate or bane of doom?
In general, you should always be reforging mastery into haste to try and get to the next haste threshold. However, if the next threshold is unavailable due to gear restrictions in the game, then it is optimal to reforge the additional haste above the threshold in to mastery yes =).
Thank you for pointing this out, I will include this in my next gear guide.
Haha yes. Fortunately I've moved into my Uni accomodation now. Top floor peace and quiet with crazy fast internet (Pulling 500mb/s at 3am and 100mb/s peak time download). [Oh and ~ 70mb/s Upload]
Search Sámárium on Kilrogg EU if you really want to see it, but my Lock isn't my main char and the gear is not good. It's the way you play that makes you good, not the gear you play in.
On first thoughts you would think so, but Incinerate is our lowest priority spell and the imps firebolt is being cast constantly throughout the fight, so overall the Imp glyph is actually a DPS increase over the Incinerate glyph. I have seen the maths to back this up =).
I'm level 17 at the moment, but this is helpful. All I can do is immolate-corruption-bane of agony-conflag-shadowbolt (then refresh dots if needed). I have a druid and pally. Warlock (so far) provides the most fun for me. Thanks for the tips
hey m8 im currently playing with a destruction warlock lvl 54 and when i do dungeons i always get last in dps can you help me pls? i use Immolate>Corruption>curse of elements>contrafladge>shadow bolt>souldifre and in between i keep casting shadow bolt
I can't remember much about that level, I.e. what skills you do and don't have or what talents. All I can say is just try and follow the rotation show here as much as possible, missing out skills you don't have or replacing them with the equivalent spell at your level (SB is a better filler than incinerate until about level 80 for instance).
Thats it, Im deleting my boring priest to create a warlock. Priests are damn boring and annoying...especially when you got people screaming at you for heals in BG and Raid.
Hah, thanks =). Oddly enough my other Char is an 85 Disc Priest ;). I just tend to ignore those people, someone who says: "PRIEST HEAL" suddenly becomes my lowest priortiy person to heal...
Incinerate is our lowest priority spell remember and so is not being cast as often as firebolt. The 20% bonus to that is significant and is being used every 2s or whatever the cast time is compared the the not as significant 5% bonus to Incinerate and Incinerate is not being cast every 2s.
Can show you the maths behind this if you're curious, but trust me ^^.
Pretty much yup. That's what all three Warlock specs are in fairness though. Keeping Improved Soul Fire up is the most annoying thing for Destro. Conflicting cooldowns can be a pain but that's where the priority order kicks in.
Similar I guess but only by the nature of it's spells. The whole priority system thing is very different to a fire mages "rotation". Warlocks will always be odd to play in that respect relying much more on DoT effects than burst damage.
in firelands i've found everything but affliction is struggling. have switched to destro on occasion to help out with burst (immo + conflag + incinerate spam = reasonable burst), but the parses aren't as high as afflic. raidbots confirms this. also to clarify you want dark intent on high dot crit classes, not just any crit, must be hot/dot crits. so a warrior might have very high crit but be a bad target compared to say a spriest, as they have hardly any dots compared.
Hey whats the name of the add on that is in the middle of your screen that is like a timer for Damage over times that you have casted on the target? ( in this case Training Dummy)?
Its a handy guide for anyone who wants to learn destro. the spell priority can be difficult to figure out. I agree tht destro can be a pain as there are many spell priorities to keep an eye on, but it all comes with practice. It is good to use UI addons to keep an eye on your timers for example i use DoTimer, tho it does take alot of tweaking. When it comes to stat priorities, it is pretty much identical for any Warlock spec INT>Hit(to cap)>Haste>Crit>Mastery. Good guide bud =) keep em coming!
@Metallerryz Yes, destro is my least favourite hehe. Glad it's out of the way xD. I used DoTimer for a while, but I didn't like the buff monitor it came with, and I also find seeing the ticks very useful especially during the decimate phase for Affliction where you need to see the Drain Soul ticks to refresh Haunt and BoD. That's why I think ForteXorcist is better in general, but both get the job done.
Stat priorities... You're almost right ;). That's right for Aff and Destro
Not bad, 5/5 I'd say, but only for a person who already plays one and wants to improve. Anyone switching to destro would have no idea because there wasn't an indepth enough explanation about priority.
Thanks you for your comment, I think that is a very valid point and will take that into account for all future videos. I really appreciate your comment ^^.
I have no addons effecting how my buffs are displayed towards the top right of the screen, however the one monitoring my DoTs and some of my buffs and cooldowns is called "ForteXorcist". REALLY useful for warlocks as you can see =).

This is normal for a training dummy self buffed.
