  • google need that guy :D

  • 240p we met again :(

  • The autist character in the movie 'Rain Man' with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hofman is based on this man.

  • Even old New York, was once New Amsterdam, why they changed it I can't say... (he didn't seem to recall the lyrics well, LOL)

  • If there are thousands of lectures why is there only 2 that last a total of 3 minutes on here?

  • Comment removed

  • i got a question.: what if he reads a lie? does he memorizes it as true? just askin. curiosity; peace !

  • Hes not autistic he has FG syndrome

  • I want his brain, add some wires to it, and use it to play minecraft.

  • It took him 23 minutes to read 8 pages?

  • @RobTiff0818 It took him 53 seconds.

  • @oyvindmacody No, the second guy said what took Kim 53 seconds to read, it took him 23 minutes - which was 8 pages....

  • In the description to this upload it says that Kim Peek was autistic; this is WRONG. Kim Peek was NOT autistic. Thought, he was a savant. R.I.P "Kimputer".

  • R.I.P. Kim Peek

  • "literally, within one minute, I realized he.... knew............... a lot"

    LITERALLY

  • In my opinion, if humans use little bit more of his/her brane than it's usualy capable of,, then he will go crazy. god created us perfecty, human eye can take 10 pictures in 1 secound, but if we were able to take 15 pictures per sec, then we would have headeche all the time, because our branes can't handle it, because we are not Able to use more of our brane than we are let to.

  • @SultanOfSwords

We actually use all of our brain. It's a common misconception that we don't. We just don't fully understand what all of it does. Look it up.

  • @Acamus Actually that is incorrect. We use around 70% of our brain, and less than 1% of our brain potential.

  • @MarcoTokes We use 10-15% average.

  • @MarcoTokes yup, please source a study that concluded that we use 70% of our brain.

  • @TheSupersojer I learned about this in my Motor Development class at the University of Windsor, I have no precise dissertations, I'm sure the internet has relevant studies.

  • @Acamus Thank you, reason!

  • @Acamus Also, we sort of do know what Kim Peek's brain does - 97.8% recall ;)

  • 97x BANG! The future of Rock n Roll.

  • What the fuck do you idiots think is smarter...A person who knows millions of facts from memory but can't do anything with it? Or a person who has horrible memory but can use his knowledge to create new things?

My 2.5 Terabyte harddrive can hold as much information as Kim Peek but like Kim Peek...can't do anything with it. So my harddrive must be really "smart"!!! gee...I wish I was as smart as a harddrive!!!

  • @logictroll242 Why don't you just shut the fuck up and stop insulting a dead man who had brain-damage? Kim Peek had an incredible brain.

What do you expect from him? He had severe mental disabilities. Leave him alone and fuck off! Yeah, your harddrive can store a lot of shit, but that's why they call him "Kimputer".

  • @JohnnyKubark Yes, Kim Peek had an incredible brain. I agree with you. It is an anomaly of human physiology but also testifies to the wonders and capacity of the human mind. We have more potential in our minds than we realize. Sorry for being mean earlier too.

I just like to be logical about everything and correct pple's concepts. :)

  • @logictroll242 I only read the last 2 or 3 of your comments but I have to say you're not entirely right, because for example, when you look at Daniel Tammet, he also suffered from mental disorders such as epilepsy (wich he says he almost died from, in the first time, on the Davide Letterman Show), and autism, however he also does have an incredible brain combined with memory and calculation (not the same as Kim since scientists say he can't reason).

  • @logictroll242 He can use his memory like learning a new language (like he did in the documentary) and fluently speak it and engage in conversations speaking that same language, so besides storing all the grammar from a specific language, he can actually use them, not to mention his amazing calculation skills.

  • Insane memory doesnt make someone "smart". Memorizing facts doesnt require that much intelligence...it's JUST MEMORY. If knowing a lot facts makes one smart my damn IPhone must be a fucking genius with it's 4G network and access to billions of articles. it too has a calendar that can go back 2000 years.

Only idiots equate "knowing a lot of facts" to high intelligence...idiots...

  • @logictroll242 You're saying Kim isn't really smart because your hard drive can do what Kim does, but isn't that like saying "Just because you can lift up a car, it doesn't make you strong, because a crane can also lift up a car"? Your argument is illogical; you're saying an ability isn't impressive if a machine is also capable of doing it.

  • @JohnnyKubark I'm not talking about Kim directly. I'm talking about people who think having an insane memory equates to a high intelligence. I'm not trying to insult Kim. I'm insulting people who think having a very strong memory makes one intelligent.

  • @JohnnyKubark wow, my point isnt "an ability isnt impressive if a machine is also capable of doing it". You're not so logical or "smart". A harddrive can store a lot of information but is the harddrive itself something smart? Being smart is not associated with how good a person's memory, it's about how the person can process and manipulate what he knows in his memory. ure still equating smart as having a large memory with your analogy. ur premise is wrong dumbass

  • I like that, in the suggestions, it says, "Daniel Tammet, The Boy With The Incredible Bra...". I am aware that last word continues an becomes "Brain", but I like it better the way it's listed.

  • the ultimate question. would you give up what you have to be as smart as him, but as socially challenged?

  • @jms8220 YES! Just make me a Kim Peeks and I'll need only a few friends!

  • Haha always the trombones..>!!

  • this guy is such a bro i wish he didn't die :(

  • i love this man

  • 4:20 what the fuck was that? Haha

  • @MVelli ...it's unfortunate that you're a douche bag

  • The only thing that is Freaky about Kim, is how crazy smart he is.

  • This guy should go on 'Jeopardy!' or 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?'

  • @MrRobotoToo Well, the thing is he's been dead for 2 years.

  • @MrRobotoToo Hes already dead :/

  • Watson... AI my ass.

  • He has what's called savant synfrome. Even though he does poorly on intelligence tests, he is brilliant.

  • He had 84 IQ, I rest my case.

  • @luffaren91 He scored 87 because he could not understand the way the questions were asked in the test. A special test was made for him and he scored 190+

  • @Mirata87 I highly doubt he scored over 190. Source?

  • @luffaren91 190's a pretty arbritary number. I could design a test and make the average score a billion. Sounds like the other person just made it up anyway.

  • @luffaren91 If Kim Peek has an 84 IQ then you have a .00000000000000000000000000000000000001 IQ.

  • @Bludgeoned2DEATH2 "In psychological testing, Peek scored below average (87) on general IQ tests" Kim Peek on Wikipedia.

Kinda funny that you're dumb enough to think that knowledge = intelligence

  • @luffaren91 Kim Peek will always be more intelligent you, I and anyone else :) even when he's dead.

  • @Bludgeoned2DEATH2 You have no idea what intelligence is.

  • he died.

  • what is wrong with 11 people?

  • he cant actually comprehend what the facts he knows mean, for instance he does not understand metaphors.

  • @captain3xtreme That IS autism. Autism is a disorder where social skills are very undeveloped. These people are almost incapable of understanding the social codes that operate between people, and they don't understand irony or methaphors because they take everything they hear litterally. Kim was an autist, and one of the things that make him such an interesting person is that he is so handicapped in some fields, yet he has this incredible gift.

  • @misshorseman Kim was actually not Autistic. A study, in 2008 I think, showed it was FG Syndrome and he was missing a bundle of nerves that connects your right and left hemispheres.

  • @GCFDKFD You're right, actually I knew that. I guess I just mixed him up with Rainman :p

  • Comment removed

  • damn he is smart like me

  • @cordova390 no hes smarter

  • yeah he would have never lost on jeopardy.

  • he is way too cool

  • it hard to believe that the smartest person in the world is retarded

  • @kasabri45 You weren't listening. He was only thought to be retarded before he was 4.

  • @kasabri45: autism is a developmental disorder, not a retardation. also, the only person to be recognized as "smartest person in the world" was marilyn vos savant, and she was NOT autistic or "retarded".

  • @PooPoo2U trueeeeeee

  • @PooPoo2U Marilyn Vos Savant was never the smartest person in the world. Can you name any groundbreaking discoveries she's made? No. The assertion is silly.

  • @Dirtfire: She is the only person EVER to hold the designation of "Highest IQ" in the world. Whether she is the most intelligent, I doubt it, but I did say she is the only person ever DESIGNATED as such.

  • @PooPoo2U I've read that her IQ score was very inaccurate. Sure, Savant is a smart woman, but by no means the smartest.

Btw, having the name "Savant" is pretty convenient, isn't it? I don't think that's a coincidence. I think it was her name that made her, not the other way around as it was for Einstein and Tesla.

  • to bad he died on 19-12-2009

    R.I.P

    Kim.

    You won't be forgotten

  • i bet he's an atheist

  • @anthonylancer i bet he did not care, or advertise his beliefs on youtube.

  • @chriske627 whoa, i'm not advertising my beliefs or non beliefs, im just saying, it is likely that a smart person such as the gentleman in the video, is an atheist

  • @anthonylancer Yeah probably because he is smart.

  • @anthonylancer Best comment here man. Needs to be thumbs upped x 1000.

  • Basically, Kim was a giant SSD-disk with legs.

  • One side of his visual brain must have been almost perfect whereas logical thoughts and figuring out things he couldn't have done much.

  • wait is rain man based on this guy

  • @light24bulbs yep

  • You tube censors suck

  • Ben Stein in a tard suit

  • How is this possible? Do we know? It is amazing recall. I believe if he were to go even beyond his knowledge we would shed our bodies like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon. We use less then what 10% wonder what he was at 20% or more? amagine what 60 70 80% would be like. It is unreal what the mind is capable of.

  • @hotdog2020 We all use 100% of our brains. That 10 percent crap is just a myth. And this guy had actually pieces of his brain missing from birth which caused an anomaly that allowed him to do these amazing things. He had no reasoning ability though and he had an IQ below 75 which qualified him as being disabled. So yeah...it's not necessarily some amazing gift...it seems rather that all of the brain power was used to focus on certain areas...it certainly is interesting.

  • RIP, great man

  • wow the piano stuff is spectacular :O

  • he can recall anything but he cannot put any of the things he learned into meaning and use it to create new knowledge so basically he really isn't a genius just Google in a human body

  • @Prestonboy13

Perfect pitch, photographic memory, able to calculate the day on a specified date - yep, I say he's a genius. A genius comes in many forms, Kim Peek is one, no doubt.

  • @PrinceofCats999 He was mentally retarded, actually. Not that I want to rip on his abilities but he had no problem solving ability and could not take care of himself or understand the concept of such things.

  • Rest in peace, rain dude.

  • This guy is a testament to the fact doctors don't know jack.

  • R.i.P Kimputer

  • i wonder when my savantism will come because im pervasive developmental disorder and i act like a retard but if you seriously call me a retard i will kill you and i mean literally kill you

  • this is a retard its just another autistic freak everyone knows that you read the answers. we arnt retarted

  • @gearingc if anyone called me a retard seriously i would smash their face with my fist until they died, im pervasive developmental disorder autistic so im working on developing my savantism by studying math for at least 4 hours a day but only 2 during school days, its been a week now and i think i feel it developing

  • @terrapatra You are retarded sir.

  • @mathiasrodland over the internet there is nothing i can do

  • @terrapatra Just wanted to see if you were an internet tough guy, which you proved here that you are not. Have a nice day, fine sir.

  • @mathiasrodland your probably a really fat nerd anyway

  • 5:58 and then the said musician will be served as a soup to the whole member later that evening.

  • There is a clip somewhere where Kin and his Dad are travelling and talking about politics. Kim starts talking off-consensus, and starts mentioning war and how they are all contrived. His Dad switches topics pretty fast. I would love to see a video of Kim talking about Real History- after reading it all and shaving out the BS.

  • Man, I wish I had insane memory... Help me out a lot in school :(

  • he was a savant but he wasnt autistic

  • The intro narration says, "...Kim remembers everything as pure unfiltered data."

I think saying this might be a disservice to Kim, who was not a computer, but a human being. While it is true that he could remember things extremely well, does that mean that what was happening in his head was anything like what happens in a computer? Thought is something that we still don't understand, so jumping to such conclusions seems to me like bad form.

That said, I am thankful for this documentary.

  • @GunnyLopez

    Haha

  • @GunnyLopez ahhhahhahahaha

  • @badsaturday He who speaks shite, always speaks shite

  • @badsaturday And he who quotes but doesnt understand will have neither knowledge nor wisdom

  • @badsaturday he that knocks people for possessing knowledge is not honest to himself.

  • R.I.P

    - And there are ONLY 25 savants on earth. :)

  • recorded savants,,,, it's possible that there are more

  • It's actually been estimated to about 50 now.

  • RIP Kim! You were awesome... one of lifes wonders!

  • Comment removed

  • Yea, that sounds like a healthy attitude, however i'm not just envious, i'm jealous. I wish i had some kind of savant skill.

  • @Jbeliski

why do we need to hear bout ur sad life story, wer watchin kim plz

  • The ending of this video is just plain awesome. To hear a mistake then stand up to correct that person. Oh wow! Love this guy.

  • "literally within one minute, I realised... he knew a lot..."

    lol

  • @ottopotomas AHAHAHAHAHAHHA she has about 1/100000 the capacity that he has

  • god blessed him with that type of knowledge, thats serious!

  • 4:40 shut up bitch stop interrupting him before he starts just let him play lol

  • Just when his creative genious was beginning to flourish, he died. Life is such a bitch sometimes.

  • @ABEZH life is always a bitch

  • I'm shocked to hear that he has passed away..I'm sure Fran must be heartbroken right now and RIP Kim Peek. What an amazing individual he was.

  • Hmmm, 'bout a hundred dollars.

  • RIP... you will be missed... and if these is a god out there, I am sure you will have a long and interesting conversation. Good luck wherever is your soul.

  • @yes4me very true...he is just a child...who was given a brain like no other...yet he may not be the smartest man...he only has a photographic memory..which looks like he has the greatest photographic memory known to man...he must be jesus's brother or something :)

  • he died...?

    crap!

i would have loved to meet some1 like him

    R.I.P.

  • one in a million

    RIP

  • one in a million? That's pretty numerous. That means there would be about 6,000+ people like him. He is one in 10 billion.

  • @linuxsparta true, but one in 10 billion? we have like half that on earth and there have been more like him =p=p

  • It may be sick to say, but I am really feeling a bit jealous of him.

    rip anyway

  • R.I.P Kim

  • R.I.P Kim, i heard about you a few years, but i admired you already!

  • The world has lost an amazing person. I'm very sad. RIP Kim

  • incredible. its crazy to think that his iq was below average. i wish i knew him. anyway, RIP.

  • RIP KIM, what a beatiful mind.

  • wow..i remember seeing his documentry on discovery,really insipring,RIP kim. :(

  • We will remember you. RIP

  • Rest in Peace.

  • R.I.P

  • RIP!

  • R.I.P

  • Rest In Peace... Rain Man!

  • this dude is a total inspiration.

    RIP

  • RIP

  • Rest in Peace, Kim Peek. A truly outstanding mind.

  • imagine if he was good looking and could communicate with people well, i bet he wouldent be considered as disabled then. autism is a beautiful thing that shows us what our brain is actually capable of. most humans only use 12 % of their brains

  • That's not true, it's a common myth. It has no basis in fact, humans use all 100% of their brain. Kim's brain can perform these feats due to malformations in his brain such as the lack of a fully developed Corpus Callosum (A bundle of nerves connecting the two hemispheres), in this case, neurons can form different and more numerous connections which can lead to increased memory (as in Kim's case).

  • @TheRitual24: No, that's stupid.

  • He wasn't autistic, he had something called FG syndrome. He's one of the few savants who wasn't autistic.

    RIP :(

  • His Dx was Agenesis of the Corpus Collosum (ACC)

  • Regardless, it's still amazing and wonderful that someone we considered disabled was so amazing. He made us alI look like idiots. I was so sad when I heard he passed away.

  • Why am I so stupid?

  • "within one minute I realized he knew a lot".

In one sentence i realized you don't.

  • From what I've been reading he isn't actually autistic, he was just portrayed that way in Rain Man. He has a different sort of disability or something...

  • He is an idiot savant. I don't really know what's the difference, but I believe it has something to do with the way they can socialize with people. They can't really adapt ...

  • i heard he has FG syndrome

  • Ive he is going to be on who want to be a millionaire he would lose. The only thing they should ask is ''How do you feel''. Autist are having problems answering questions that can have multiple answers: open questions. But ive they would play fair he would kick their buts!

  • Imagine him on who wants to be a millionaire? he wouldnt even need multiple choice

  • Shows the untapped potential power of the human brain
