  • I love the tunnel idea! But it is so low, how do you keep the snakes out?

  • @ZiptieTheDog Never had a problem with them. Just keep the eggs collected and if one comes by during the day my rooster kills them.

  • Like your set up but is the fish tank like ok for outdoor use? Like when its raining and there is mositure in the air. I have an outdoor approved low watt bulb set up.

  • @MotherLodeBeth Your set up sounds good. I never use that light anymore since I built the bigger coop. But as a fishtank light it is in a high moisture environment anyway. As long as it doesn't get a lot of water in the top of it, it will be ok.

  • you really have a nice voice your in the wrong line of work with chickens......

  • Why do you have the fish tank light in the run?

  • @pepperanne14 Chickens like a little light at night and this one is low wattage. In the winter they need some light to help them lay better.

  • Wow thats a really nice coop and run man!

  • Heck of a nice job.

  • whats the axe for?

  • am he cant lay eggs,or maby he is a she?lol just messing nice set up!

  • very good job for a first time!!

  • Sweet

  • ❿ / ❿★★★★★★★★★★

  • Buck buck! 10 chicken fingers up!

  • I will be building my first coop this spring.

  • @slmdj - nice place u've built there :)

    @ chickens - cluck cluck.

  • They'res nothing better then fresh eggs in the morning.

  • Lovely coop and run. I particularly like the little tunnel. Ours is nowhere near as well thought out but you've given me lots of ideas. Thanks

  • buck buck buck buck......lol...5* again!

  • ???

  • dude maziba3 took your video check it out

  • We had 15 ducks, neighbors dog's got many, taught my pup's now I'm down to Drake and a Hen all over again!

  • LOL "The AXE is self explanatory" LOL...

Hey it reminds me of the Habitrail my GFs kids had. It was HUGE. Mazes everywhere. Like a hamster city.

Good job. You da chicken man.

  • That's Prettty Cool!

    Good Idea, Hangin the water.

    GET"R"DONE & HAVE FUN!

  • Looks great! My daughter is just starting out with chickens as well, I'll have to send her your vid!!

  • She'll love collecting the eggs... Well except when it's raining.. or cold.. or dark...Lol

  • i got my first egg saturday and rescued an ex battery hen sunday!

  • I'll have to update my coops on my other channel RedneckResponder, I've got 12 hens now and get about 5 or 6 dozen a week. I sell them and can buy a months worth of food with just a week of eggs. The other 3 weeks are profit, about $60.00 a month. It's the only hobby I have that pays for its self.

  • @slmdj how much tax do you pay for the building? Actually making any profit?

  • hoe many chickens?

  • 5 when I did this video, I have 12 now and will be getting 25 more soon. I now have a 12x12 coop, a 4x8 coop and 2) 12x12 runs.

  • "the axe is self explanatory" LOL

  • Great video! I'm getting some chickens next month. Getting ready to build the coop! I'm so excited! Thanks for your vid!

  • yeah i'm excited for my new shipment this year too!!! eggs during summer and chicken burgers in the winter!!!

  • Wow... That's your FIRST coop? Nice work, man. I really dig "the tunnel". Clever! It's like a habitrail for chickens.

  • dang, your chickens have it better than some people. Thanks for posting

  • You should see it now they have a 12x12 coup built on the side of the run and another 12x12 run built on the front of the new coup. I'll post a new video of it sometime.

  • Five Stars!!

  • green eggs? need to get me some.

  • Aracura(sic) chickens lay green and blue eggs I'm getting some this spring.

  • The green eggs are laid by easter eggers. It is really hard to get pure bred arucuna (sp) chickens

  • axe their yummy lil necks!

  • I love the chicken tunnel and I will need somthing like that to let the chickens reach the garden area because I want them to help with bug control... Nice coop!!

  • A fan will help but make sure the birds cant peck at it. Do they have an area outside of the coop? If so make sure it has some shade. Mine made it thru 35 days over 95 degrees last year, they pant a lot and slow down lying eggs but seem fine. Always keep fresh water.

  • great vid!! i have chickens as well but im having a problem keeping the birds coop cool during the day any help??? I live in Utah and the birds are getting really hot and its hotter in the coop. It also has 2 vents in it.

  • With my coop I made sure that the front faced the prevailing wind direction for most of the year... put a window so that I can keep it open and the breeze keeps the coop cool even when its really hot... also I have a large sun roof in the coop that also keeps it warm but the window is enough to keep it from being really hot... but they do need to be alble to go out and water water water...

  • If it hangs up day cant poop in it. lol good idea

  • Yeah or scratch it out.

  • nice coop

  • Fantastic setup, well done and thanks for sharing.

  • Go chickens!

  • Ok what is the point of running a fish tank light 24hrs a day, I guess I don't get how that would help a chicken...

  • The fish tank light is for me to see and it hardly ever gets turned on. The chickens have a night light in the coop to ensure they get 14 hours of light a day so as to lay better and they like a little light at night to see anything happening in the coop. It makes them less nervous.

  • I like your coop and run setup, the tunnel is a cool idea. My request would be to slow the movement of the camera when you film, it's hard to focus on anything for me and it makes me dizzy! Not so much fast back and forth movement. Thanks for the clip!

  • Thanks sorry about the camera work

  • the tunnel is such a good idea [:

  • Thanks I'll be adding on soon. To wet out right now.

  • I love the chicken tunnel! I have a coop in the barn that connects to an outdoor area, but if I want to expand (I think I will someday) the tunnel is a great idea! Thanks for sharing and good luck!

  • Okay why the Axe in the Coop... There is not a stump somewhere for that...

  • It keeps the rooster in line.

  • Thats a beauty of a run man!!

  • Thanks It will be getting larger in the spring 25 more birds on the way.

  • Very nice coop construction and layout. Well planned and informative video too. Thanks!

  • I'll be building another in a few weeks onto the side of the run. Getting about 25 more hens.

  • no i dont get it, whats the axe for? lol!

  • Just having it where they can see it keeps them in line.

  • That is a nice coop (did u come up with the blue prints yourself?)

  • Yeah, really i kinda made it up as I went but I have a background in construction. I used alot of stuff I had lying around the only thing i bought was wire.

  • Why the light? Don't chickens need darkness too? Do you let the chickens in the yard to eat the bugs and weed seeds? Do you plan on eating any of the chickens?

  • The light in the run is just for looks. The chickens go into the coop at sunset every night where it is safe and secure. I have 7.5 watt light in the coop. Chickens lay better if they get about 14 hours of light a day.

  • Chickens don't need darkness and are less nervous with a little light all night. I let them out to rome the yard almost everyday but I have to watch them cause of stray dogs. I doubt I will eat any of these since they are our first ones and we named them, in the future I might get some meat birds.

  • I want to get some chickens in the future and I worry about becoming attached to them. Hopefully, if I know in the beginning I may eat them then it won't be so bad. Who knows though. Thanks for the info on the lights.

  • If you're really looking into it- The best beginner's book is by Gail Dammerow and called simply "raising chickens". It's everything you need to know. Look out though- raising chickens is addictive!

  • Thanks for the information I will look around for the book. I can imagine making food for yourself can be very addictive. I am looking more into natural organic chicken raising...which would be without the light. Even though the chickens lay more with an additional light it's not their natural cycle. I think all animals need natural sunlight and darkness. I also plan to pasture raise the chickens so they can forage for themselves part of the year.

  • Cool. My Aunt out in the county had some chickens when I was younger. She used to give us eggs all the time. We used to chase these suckers when we would visit, I guess we were a little mean.

  • Hey babe!
