  • We want Axelay 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This music is really awesome... Awesome game too! Remind me memories...

  • Yeah! The music has been rolling around in my mind for a few days now, couldn't place it. Konami's output was amazing at the time, one of their best games by far.

  • Like a 16 bit version of the Citadel in Mass Effect.

  • why can't konami make a sequel of this game? did they forgot about this wonderful ip?

  • One of the best soundtracks in the world of gaming ever! I played it as a child, and it was exciting. I still play it, now as an adult, and after all the years, it's still one of my favs. I suggest Axelay to all who never played it.

  • The music in this stage its so epic

  • The boss is the older brother of the ED-209 robots from Robocop

  • @luriomaxx i thought the same thing. man, gaming back in the day was simple. You are in school all week, its finally friday, Your mom or Dads pay week. they pick you up, take ya to the video store to pick out a game, its eat out night, you get your favorite place to eat and a good(hopefully) game. Good times

  • los japoneses y su costumbre de hacer cosas perfectas...

  • one of the BEST shmup levels ever made...the music, the background, the boss, all incredible!

  • That song, my God! That song!

  • Great music, great background. its simply a great classic game, alot better than the new 3D airplain fighting games

  • The graphics on this boss were really cool looking back then. I love how there were somewhat complicated mechanics on how to defeat each one. This guy makes it look easy but there was strategy back then.

  • I played this game to perfection. I could beat it on the hardest difficulty w/ no continues and proved it to non believers several times for fun. Legendary game and will never be forgotten. Not the most difficult SHMUP but extremely enjoyable, the best soundtrack of its time.

  • That boss is sick!

  • i often played that game to listen to its music...i had a japanese cardrige to play on my USA SNES.

specially this stage has one of the coolest, minimal - technostyle musics i ever heared in a videogame ;)

  • Anyone else like that little victory dance the ship does when it defeats a boss? That's what I've always seen it as when it goes from side to side. :)

  • the music in this level is good

  • The music is so good that I often just play this level over and over. Also playing this game while stoned is intense.

  • I have this on my old beloved SNES on an american cartridge. (I have a European SNES). It's a nice little gadget to sit with cartridge-converters etc etc when playing this game. Great game!

  • One of the best song ive heard on my live is in this stage

  • you know what other old school game was cool as hell, "Lords of Thunder "on the sega CD drive. The only draw back on it was that it was on Sega CD in the first place.

  • I've always liked how the ship quickly rocks from side to side before flying off screen at the end of every level. Ah, memories! :)

  • youres good playier:)

  • That was not hard difficulty. Probably normal.

  • @alcaster42 It is on hard, you can see on the boss' fire, and the fire in general - moving faster. I'd not live for 1 minute here.

Oh and the boss music here is the coolest in the game ^^

  • its a Japanes game OF COURSE!!!

  • dude this game is awesome

  • I too love that music. And the planet slowly scrolling underneath you in the middle of the stage? Awesome. And how the music variegates the regular stage theme in the "approach the boss" phase.

Too bad you killed the boss so quickly it never fired its awesome-looking big-ass laz0r. ;)

  • em 1993 eu meu irmao e meu dois primos gastaram mihões de reais para adequerir esse jogo com o super nes! era uma verdadeira alegria

    ate hoje choro e emoção...

    tempo que não volta mais

  • Interesting, i don't think that was really enemy base - see destroyed satellites early in level, very humanly buildings far below in station, hardly damaged gates and portal in the end and that strange things like barricades? I think that was once mankind's station, captured by enemy

  • c est un super game quelle prouesse pour l epoque avec axelay une tuerie, du lourd du tres lourd

  • When you think about it, Axelay has a GREAT enemy variety ^^

Ibuki your favorite gun's Round Vulcan, am I right?

Most creative gun ever made :D

  • That boss is so damn cool 8)

  • @Isurandil Why oh why didn't he let the Boss live until it fired its Main Gun?!?

  • This is also among my all-time favorites for BGM. This and Super R-Type both make me want to boogie sometimes.

  • Fuck! I dont know why, but I cannot post answers to posts. Sorry for that.

  • is it true that if you beat the game on very hard there is a message that says "coming soon axelay 2"?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, it is.

The Message is (as I remember) "SEE YOU AT AXELAY 2"

(I personally call it Expert Mode ^^ )

Damn it, I was so happy, when I read it. Me and my best friend we were searching for that new Axelay 2 all night long. And that was in 1996 or about that time. But I think it never was published

  • @Smaschge Konam i"SEE YOU AT AXELAY 2" They don't even make an Axelay 2. It seems Konami has no plans making the game at all.

  • I always thought the explosions in this game sounded so weird. What an odd choice for sound effects.

The music and graphics are top notch, however.

  • Doesn't sound anything at all like my version, but I have the actual SNES game, not an Emulator. Sounds much better in the flesh, so to speak.

  • best. song. ever.

  • the boss looks like ed-209 from Robocop

  • Wow... I thought I was the only one who loved the music on this level :)

  • Go kill yourself megamontyscumfuck, replying to an old ass comment of mine. Dumbass twat.

  • This music is awesome. Makes me want to start doing push ups.

  • Wow, man thx for uploading this. Brings back memories of being 13 again. I remember saving my lawn mowing money to buy this and Super Star Wars. Needless to say I don't think I left the house that summer :)

  • This is something I have always thought about. If the Axelay ship was invading an enemy base, don't you find it weird that they would just open the doors for him?. "Oh, you are here to attack us?. Here! let me open the door for you!. Come right in!".

  • one of the best games i bought for snes. totally on a whim, i fluked a good one!

  • I was thinking of using this stage music for a RoadTUNES video. Great video, man. 5/5

  • congratulations your video has been used on cheatplanetdotcom for the 59 level to play before you die.

  • "You have 20 seconds to comply!"

  • ...um he DID own that level dumbass

  • The song is hilarious :D i just love it ;D

  • My first game for the SNES, this level was my favourite, the music brings back awesome memories.

  • Defenetly the best Shoter on the SNES IMO!

  • ED 209 from robocop !!!!

  • Pwned by the player! LOL!!!

  • When i first played and discovered how remarkable this game was i suddenly had the urge inside to say fuck the world, fuck all humanity, this game is far better than any living person, fuck em!

  • Oh boy my favourite stage music from the game.

  • This game is a great example of why Super Nintendo was so much better than Genesis. The graphics and the sound say it all.

  • how many ex-konami,now treasure members worked on this game?

  • Only one person worked on this game. Kazuhiko "König" Ishida composed the music and was credited with "support program."

  • Great gameplay, great stage, great song! Thanks for posting this vid!

  • this is a great game and the music is awesome.nice play ibukiSF3

  • Best Stage , Best Boss, Best music , in game , PERIOD!

  • That boss always reminds me of robocop for some reason.

  • me too :)

  • That's because in one of the games that robocop is in, robocop VS teminator, there is a boss that looks VERY similar and fights very simiar to that.

Or the movie version as well.

  • That boss also reminds me of an AT-ST from Star wars.

  • Man I almost hate/like this level during my everyday life. I'd say the revolving background of that level does captivate people in some way.

I like the way you use the rice gun (that's what I call it during pre-school) to defeat the chicken-boss; you make it seem easy to do when it's actually on the hard level.

My final speech to that boss before the finishing blow is; "Eat rice, CHICKEN-MAN!"

  • This was about the only game on the Super Nintendo (besides Yoshi's Island but that uses the super fx chip) that uses it's rotation ability creatively. Most other games don't make it look as cool.

  • Iam learning this shit on guitar, its hard ;P Axelay rules! cool songs to ;P

  • i like the scene were you enter the space station,

en the detials on the background is so fantastic.

for my is this one of the best game on super nintendo - graphic 8/5 - music sound 9/5 - game play 10

  • Such a brilliant game; as a teenager I was impressed by the "arms installation is complete, good luck" speech!

  • GO SNES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice game, but awesome skill IbukiSF3. You rock.

  • i play on snes finish the game on hard and continue to play, if you finish again a secret message of konami apears , sorry about the english im brazilian

  • Well, yes, you are right about the secret message. It only appears after the player has defeated the last boss on the HARD level. The projected message states "See you in Axelay 2!"

Sadly, the staffs who made Axelay have left Konami (to form a new company called Treasure), before they have the chance this promise come true.

And I'm sorry, I do not speak Português. =)

  • After Hard?

I think it was that after you finish hard you get to - let's call it - "Expert" and then this message:

    Easy: Ship flying away

Normal: Ship flying away+see The planet

Hard: Ship flying away+see The planet+Medal

Expert: Ship flying away+see The planet+Medal+"See you in/at/on Axelay 2"

BTW: I think you only reach this expert mode by finishing all other in a row, because i often finished hard and then started easy again and only on time i got this expert mode

  • try extra hard and send

  • What do you mean? I don't think there's an extra hard in the game or so I haven't seen. Is there one?

  • Yes, I wrote a comment about it in you level 6 vid

  • there is:

Perhaps the Brazilian is right and you only have to play hard and then again all 6 levels, but i dont think that the guy is right.

    I played Easy-->Normal-->Hard-->"Expert"

To compare: Amount and speed of Bullets increase for a Jellyfish in Lv 4:

    Easy: slow, 4 bullets

Normal: little bit faster, 8 bullets

    Hard: fast, 16 bullets

    Expert: fucking fast, 32 Bullets!!!!

I needed about 30 lives for expert and had 2 or 3 million points, i guess

  • i love this song!

  • This was and still is an awesome game.

  • i know this game!

  • The first time i saw this boss robo cop came into my head all those years ago classic level!!
