  • they arent supposed 2 swim

  • Pure Bred Bassets cannot swim for very long. They will eventually sink seeing as their bone density is so high.

  • My Bassett swan a whole pond by herself. She looked like a little Beaver. It was so cute!

  • Oh Lulu darling - what a beautiful basset hound. I would love to hug her.

  • my bassets name is Lulu! :D shes so cute! but she hates anything to do with water... bassets are just not made for swimming b/c of their short legs, but give them a lil boost and they'll be fine(:

  • as with kids, dont allow them near the pool or in the pool without supervision.

  • @PIGOUT5560-- that is not true.... they need the excercise.... they wont get hurt great danes and labs always swim and they weigh wayyy more than bassets!

BTW----- I just got a new basset hound! her name iS Roxxie and when we got her she was 6 weeks old...... now she's about 2 MONTHS! LOL XD

  • @WebkinzLover1090 Just to let you know not all Bassets can swim. My friends fell in the pool and sank. They had to jump in and save it. So they need supervision when around deep water. With the short legs and weight in the front they are not made for swimming. They are not water dogs like labs.

  • The commenter about teaching the dog how to get out of the pool was right. They can swim, but most don't like it, they're not built for it, but cats hate it too and they instinctively know how to swim (not well). If you have one and an uncovered pool, do the same precautions you would for a child--cover, enclose, or if they're able to, show them how to swim and get out.

  • Oh my goodness...we're getting a basset in two weeks and her name is going to be LuLu! i had no idea anyone else loved that name for a basset as much as we do! Love your little girl...can't wait to get ours!

  • My basset hates water with a passion- its hard just to bathe her, but actually she can swim, so could my old basset hound, but I've never met one in person that enjoyed it :)

  • Aww...My sister has two bassetts. (did u know that if you put two t's its a special bessett/s?)They sometimes fall into the pool and dont enjoy it! They're more of rabbit hunting dogs! :D

  • its perfectly healthy for bassets to swim, its just their front ends are a lot heavier than their back ends so their fronts will usually go down. It doesn't hurt their backs at all. I wanna get my basset a life jacket because she loves to swim, but her front end goes down like the titanic without a doggy life jacket.

  • The guy taught his dog how to get out of the water ih that pool. Of course if the dog gets into another pool that doesn't have steps like that, the dog could be in trouble. Most bassets do not know how to swim or can't and will sink immediately. Some can swim pretty well, but all need to learn how to get out of a pool and should be kept away from most pools.

  • Most? I wouldn't say that, I have four bassets and while a couple of them don't like to swim, they can! My youngest hound, Hunter fell in last week and scared me to death, but the second he hit the water he started swimming. I would not recommend anyone allow a dog to swim or be around a pool without supervision though.

  • Haha

K Next Times Hes In The Pool

Get A Pair Of Goggles On And Watch There Little Feet Kick Haha Its Soo Funny.

    I Have 2 Bassets.

  • my basset loves swimming..she can't go near water without jumping in. i have to clean her ears out but i'm not going to stop her from having fun but i also don't make her do it. its all up to her

  • Both my hounds loved to swim, didn't have a worry with them....but they must be sound...most recently they have been breeding them more and more disproportionate never good, look at the bulldog with all it's medical problems.

  • Bassets are not suppose to go near or in water. Especially not for two little twit's amusement. Ignorant owners

  • Frankly, your comment is ignorant. Go back to minding your own business. The dog is fine, busybody.

  • @rossttc Not an ignorant comment at all - a little knowledge goes a long way - having been involved with Bassets for over twenty years I can tell you from first hand experience that they are more like to incur spinal injury from activities that place a greater amount of stress on the backs than would injure other dog breeds. It doesn't mean all of them can't swim, they just require supervision while doing so and those hounds that clearly don't enjoy it should not be forced to do so.

  • Respond to this video... Public video equals it is your business. Who's ignorant now?

  • aaaww:)

  • hahaha i thought the girl at 0:01 was a dog lol

  • Lulu enjoyed swimming, she often wades around at the river at my father-in-law's house, I think bassets don't like to swim much because the water get's in their big ears, but they can do it if you give them a hand.

  • aww i had a basset named lulu =)

  • ohhhh, that's crazy.

i read that bassets can't swimm. actualy my basset is realy afraid of pools, sea, lakes etc

  • Thats funny! My Bassett hound was walking around the edge of our pool and fell in. I had to save him because he started sinking!

  • This worries me. I love bassets and they're not supposed to be good swimmers. Poor thing.
