How was the host able to get wrestlers from different companies(AWA and NWA) to appear on this show at the same time?? I know there was less hostility between rival companies/territories during this period of time as opposed to the Monday Night Wars era, but I would've thought that having wrestlers from competing companies appearing on the same show IN CHARACTER would be a no-no. Did Larry Zbysko defend the AWA title on that June/1985 show in Philadelphia??
tully and baby doll, the greatest wrestler-valet combination in history. other candidates, adria street & miss linda; savage and miss elizabeth. and gorgeous george and jeffries! LOLLL baby doll was the only one who could handle men tho, and that includes jeffries
Boy did you see the face of Ric when Tully said "sure I would love to get in the ring with Ric". He was probably thinking "oh no you're not gonna take my spot, that's why I put you on my team!"
@truaswad Iam from philly to and i never saw this show or this interview a day in my life. alot of that may have to due with the fact that we live in the North East and this was WWF country. and the NWA only came this way once a year. man i am sure you miss going to the spectrum to watch wrestling. iam going to shed a tear or two when that building comes down later this year.
@prowlifik well since 85 the nwa was in philly EVERY MONTH! the very show they talked about with flair facing magnum,i actually attended. it was a 1hr draw. yes i will miss the old spectrum. saw many a bob backlund title defense in that place and much GOOD wrestling when wwf cared what the fans wanted. a long time ago,in a galaxy far far away.
This was AM Phila first time out with wally kennedy as host after dave Roberts and Claire carter left to do other things. The Reason Ric Mentions the Spectrum is because the Spectrum was the sole entity for Wrestling in Philly for decades, until the NWA came to the Civic center which is strange as the management of the Spectrum also managed the Civic Center. The WWF had a sole contract with the Spectrum .
lil funny how ric says that wrestling in philly was always a sell out at the spectrum, well anyone from philly back in the days knows that the spectrum only ran wwf shows, it was the civic center in philly where nwa did shows. actualyl on a few times nwa and wwf would do house shows in philly on the same night, and still do business, thats how over wrestling is in the home of ecw
Actually they did wrestle one another in the dieing days of the AWA. This was when Zbysko had been awarded the title after Hennig had gone to the WWF and when Arn left the Brainbusters and WWF to go back to the Horsemen, and Blanchard failed a drug test? (Also reportedly he was dropped for refusing to take a fall for the Warrior.)
Blanchard went briefly to the AWA where he and Zbysko had a good little feud. Then Blanchard left to pursue his ministries.
Wasn't gonna catch these guys out of character in 1985 - kayfabe was still alive and well.
