Hey dude! I got a question WTH is a NJ Transit train doing around the New Haven line? Dude thats a catch to see this. How did u know that this train was coming on the line? Dude 5 stars
This train is gonna run during football season. And this is a test run. And actually my friend and i were just chillen at the tracks when we got a call from our friend in bridgeport. he was getting on a local MN train was he saw this pass him on the express track. I guess it was a great example of right place right time. :)
And I did catch it again at the same time a week later. but I have'nt seen it since. I think they caught on to me. oh well two time was good enough until its an offical train. I'll wait......
Love the video, but do all railfans a favor, and kindly not trespass!! There are more than enough stations you can safely and LEGALLY view the train action!! :-)
I wasn't tresspasing. I was standing by the parking lot. And i know the dangers of standing too close to trains. So don't go right to conclusions without knowing the full story. My friend and I were a safe distance away from the train. It's no like I stepped out right in front of the train. And I had the zoom on. You conductor guys always think we're stupid and dont know anything. but we do so leave us alone. and dont call the cops on us too!
And dont worry about me bothering you, worry about an engineer calling you in and the next time a police cruiser pulls up and officers come your way. Nowadays, they take you in!! Problem with railfans is that they think they know it all, and in that is how railfans get in so much trouble with railroaders and railroad police, and this is psoken to you from a railfan/railroader, and you make it plain you can not take constructive criticism and get defensive so fast, which is a de facto guilt show
This video closely shows otherwise, because this video was big duscussion on a rail message board, and the trespassing was noted, and not just by me!! Just be careful, man!! Being told this by a railroader/railfan.
The catenary has to be about the same height as everywhere else on the NEC. Trains have been going back and forth between the WAS-NYP corridor and New England for years.
Actually, no. The pantographs change height throughout the trip on the NEC. And most of us always thought Bi-level cars wouldn't make it under the catenary. Well, we're wrong.
Well, the NJT and LIRR bilevels are really short. I don't know about the New Haven catenary, but Superliners and gallery cars can fit under the caternary at WAS. The MARC Kawasaki bilevels also have clearance all the way up to the Hudson river, but I don't know about the New Haven Line. Frankly, I thought all the catenary on the NEC was he same height including the newer constant tension wire BOS-NYP.
Are you sure? I've seen P42s under NH catenary on some reroutes as well as those used on NH line itself. I'm sure PL42ACs are no taller than the P42s.
trust me I know. The entire Genesis series have a height of 14 feet and 8 inches. The PL42ACs have a height of 15 feet and 5 Inches. Metro-North New Haven Line catenary is 15 feet 4 Inches.
I'm not sure what you are getting at. MNCR built the Yankees station on their main line. So a million trains stop there every day and also on game days. The Meadowlands station is on NJT, not MNCR, so only 3 round trips per day, and only for 1 PM Sunday games, will operate on the NH Line.
I think only Hudson Line trains use the station daily. The New Haven only serves it on game days. 3 round trips sounds reasonable. That's 6 trains operating on game day, and if they're using Bi-Levels they don't need to run as many trains since Bi-Levels can carry more passengers than single level coaches.
Yes, only Hudson Line trains stop there daily. No, they may be using MULTILEVELS because starting at, and continuing west of Penn Station New York, these trains will be regularly scheduled NJT NEC and/or NJCL trains. So at Penn Station they will be picking up a whole load of normal passengers, in addition to the Connecticut MNCR passengers already onboard. So that tells you right there that they aren't expecting thousands of Connecticut MNCR passengers per train.
nice one Marc!

Great video! I don't see how you're trespassing since you look like a good 5 feet from the rail.

I thought that the MLVs cannot clear the New Haven line catenary.

My bad. Besides, I don't that NJT needs any of their diesels beyond the North River Tunnels.
jesuschristsmysavior 2 years ago
they don't.

AWESOME! At first I thought is was a joke. But once I heard that K5LA I was like there's no mistaking that was a NJT train!
Great0ne1 2 years ago
Why would it be a joke?
BMdoobieW 2 years ago
because it was bi-levels. basically I wasn't convinced at the title until I saw the video

Hopefully this will be a common sight when and if NJT starts the Meadowlands game train, the reason for this test run. :)
murjax 2 years ago
Only as common as 1 PM Sunday games are.
BMdoobieW 2 years ago
They'll have to have return service too. Look how many trains MNRR runs to Yankees. It isn't just one shuttle train. It's several.

Yeah, I'm sure half the football fans will continue to go there the old way via GCT making subway, path and NJT connections.
