  • haha no camera special effects here people just pure old talent!,good stuff

  • Four V8 HQs, spiffy moves and classical music. Wonderful.

  • Who's the cat that won't cop out - when there's Holden's all about?

    SHAFT!

    Right on, mate!

  • 9 minutes is pretty long for an ad.

  • SHAFT!

  • wow - god i used to love the holden precision driving team stuff (though that was more HZ/commodores). i would sit at the fence at the ekka absolutely gob smacked. their skills were amazing and it looked (and probably was) quite dangerous. and by christ they didnt fool around where speed was concerned. good luck that ever happening again in our safe new world. thanks for the vid!!!

  • This is great! I have one of these and a HT GTS 350 powerglide

  • Man I miss my HQ GTS Monaro, and what's with the porno music in the background. Lol

  • mmm...the hq coupe is my grail when it comes to cars lol...

  • why does the commercial go for 9:30?

  • Mate you legend. love it cheers for posting this.

  • Not sure if its my imagination, but when I saw the Holden Precision Driving Team at the Sydney Royal Easter Show a few years ago, they didn't drive as close to each other as they did back then. Maybe OH&S has even reached stunt driving?

  • Looking at the driver's faces, it's easy to tell they're nervous as hell, although understandably, they try not to let it show in their driving.

  • This is a great upload!! Really cool to watch! Go Holden at Bathurst this weekend! :)

  • Great post!

Interesting that those cars have consecutive rego and exactly the same spec so they were clearly built to be stunt cars, but they have towbars - help strengthen the body perhaps?

Also interesting how much less precise they look than the later teams driving the VTs and so forth. Total kudos for them for doing that in a stock HQ, even if it was a GTS!

  • A classic stunt show, then as now. It's amazing how few of the moves have changed in 38 years.

  • I bet one of those drivers is Peter Brock.

  • A pity the Holden Precision Driving Team isn't around anymore. This was always a must see for me at the Brisbane Ekka and it never failed to give me goosbumps.

  • Fantastic stuff great vid

  • if someone drove that fucking close to my monaro, i would shoot them.

    lmaoooo

  • i remember when the WA police tried something like that at the Perth Royal show and fucked it up i was only little way back then and i still can remember it :3

  • I wonder when the blue car got the dent in the boot?

  • Thanks for posting !!excellent vid.

  • awesome, got to respect these guys.

  • mmmmmmmm.....monaros........*drools*

  • THAT WAS GREAT>>>>>>LOVE IT

  • Man this is awesome. Mike Chapman is my Dad. I can't wait to show him this old footage. He is in the orange car! Sadly Errol Bognuda passed away a few years ago. I was 5 when i used to go to the ekka and watch him...hardly remember! I sent this to my sisters who watched him from 7-8 years old until they were 15-16. they watched nearly every show in brisbane and never got bored watching. Mike is currently 73 years old and still lives in brisbane and is at the ekka today.

  • @uchamp321 thtas fantastic. i probably saw your dad at the ekka. god i loved the holden precision driving team. stick your grand parade, side show alley and show bags. it was the holden v8s in the chilly brisbane winter air at the end of the day i REALLY hung out for. wonderful stuff!!!! thank your dad for me......

  • @PeterHBne1 lol chilly brisbane air. I dont care if its winter or not, brisbane is never cold.

  • good driving , I dont think they even had " radial tuned suspension " back then LOL .....

  • wow that was quiet cool

  • The fourth driver (in the red car) is Ian Riedel. Ian was Queensland Rally Champ in the 70's, and now does fireworks - talk about thrill!!

  • TOP VIDEO

  • Video was shot at Ipswich Show Grounds

    near Brisbane. Three drivers were

    Lloyd Robinson, Errol Bognuda,

Mike Chapman . It was the teams second

set of HQ coupes, but they used loan Cars when in Adelaide or Perth.

  • Fourth driver is Ian Riedel (in the red car)

  • Thanks, Yes, i am trying to get some old photos from Ian

  • holy shiit i wanna drive them hahah,,

  • it would be interesting to see what happened to those cars. But most likely they would have ended up at the crushers or rusting away in someones backyard now.

  • The blue car existed to at least 1990

  • shit i hope its in safe hands now as to me the hq monaro 2 doors was by far the best looking car australia ever built.BTW what is the better car to drive the 2 door or 4 door you own.

  • I cant find any of them, but have lots of

photos. My dads friend Errol Bognuda

drove the blue car & he purchased it as his private car afterwoods, so I had

been in it a few times.

  • oh cool was it a fast car.

  • These 4 were 308 4-speeds, it went

well, but gee these guys could drive.

This was the mid 1972 set of cars.

  • SHAFT music in background!

  • Great video i love the hq monaro good to see original videos of the cars haven fun.

  • So still with "The Great Way to Move" campaign in that moment...

  • jesus i think the camera man was drunk....awsome driving-bad filming

  • Can anyone tell us if there was an ad for the HZ Monaro??

  • nope there was never an hz moaro produced, it only went to the hx, you can get them in 2 or 4 door, cause i have both in original condition, locked away in my shed. my 2 door has the 308 with 4speed, and my 4 door has the turbo pattern 308 with the turbo 400. i just thought i`d share that with ya..cheers.

  • HZ Monaro was produced but only in the 4 door version, commonly referred to now as HZ GTS-4.

  • ok sorry my misstake i was always told there was naver an hz monaro or gts, i`ve often seen them but thought some one had put a hz grill in them, but thank you for clearing that up with me, now i will kick that person that told me bull shit in the arse, cheers mate, and also i will have to look deeper to see if my hx is a legit 2 door, i definatley know my 4 door is cause all the numbers match and i have the production run sheet from factory telling me all the options and what has been fitted.

  • HX Monaro options were-

HX LE coupe and HX GTS 4

Both are worth a fair bit of coin especially with the build sheet for the four door.

You have some very nice history in your shed but remember that cars are meant to be driven, not wrapped in cotton wool!

  • @myssv8 Sorry to burst your bubble mate - you are misinformed there certainly are HZ monaro's, some are quite rare and sort after in fact with limited paint releases worth Big Buck's. Just look on the road today and see the occasional HZ monaro about and ring any auto club and Insurance company, they'll confirm this.

  • @DollnDogLuva There is no such thing as an HZ Monaro, it's known as the HZ GTS. The Monaro name was dropped after the HX, that's why there is no Monaro badge on a HZ.

  • @DollnDogLuva mate we are both right but i was meant to say holden never produced the hz monaro in 2 door, only 4 door i have seen the hx 2 door monaro in the burgandy red with gold highlights, yes they are very fucking rare, as in the comment i wrote 2 yr ago the 2 door and 4 door hx monaro`s i have are very genuine all numbers match, cheers for your info... i`m not looking to make any enemys..

  • nice

  • I agree, it's definately exciting to watch in this day and age, by the looks of it some of this driving may be the inspiration for the Holden Stormriders. I wonder how many Monaros they dinted up before they perfected their act?

A bit annoying that people are making money selling these videos which in all rights should (and now are) free, but people sell anything these days unfortunately :(

  • they also used to do those stunts in fc/fe holdens and eh's aswell.

  • No, the Canadian Hell Drivers used

    ek's & EH's.

The Monaro Prec Drive Team started

with HT 186's & got new cars every year.

    Ht,HG's were built in Brisbane,

HQ's Coupes Built Sydney or Melbourne

  • Nice driving, would still be an impressive display in todays standards.

I see someone has downloaded the clip and is selling it on EBAY,nothings sacred anymore.
