Actually it went from Manila to Cebu to pick up more passengers that would fill the plane for the next leg of the trip to Tokyo.

There was a passenger sitting right on the seat with the bomb took the extent of the blast and sustained the vertical force from going up and rupturing more cables, the 747 could have took the explosion without that passenger but it would have had a lot less control.

The PAL 434 landed safely at narita, thanks to the pilots who flew the plane,the cockpit crew has a presence of mind when it happen, this what they learn when they flown PAF F-5 fighter jets, they already applied it to the 747.
