Ok Bud, I know you heard me about breeding that mare in your name, since on April 5th she had TWIN colts!! I talked to your mom and we are trying to come up with a name or names for the boys, though I have been calling the smaller colt Bri just like I did you ;-) Scott calls him Brian, and he is so you! Very charismatic and outgoing. Unlike most new foals, he runs up to greet any and all who come near.,When I look at that foal, I feel so much closer to you.
Hey guy, yeah, its me. It has been three whole years now and it still feels like yesterday. Everytime my phone rings I think of you, and I smile. I miss you, buddy, but I guess that you know that.
Hey there Bud, Guess what? I was grooming that mare and I felt the foal kicking like crazy, he did not like it much, maybe he will have some of your spunk, huh? I just cannot believe its been almost three years. If God could ever grant me one wish, it would be to have a telephone up there in Heaven so I could talk to you again. Even if its only one time. I miss you, guy, ride on....
Hey there Buddy. I miss you so much, my friend. Well, the mare that I bred is in foal, so your name is going to live on, God willing it will have all the talent in the World. I have donated the procedes from the baby, either by sale or race earnings, to the Don MacBeth Foundation and Winners Foundation in your name, my dearest friend. Its a small thing, and I'd give anything if you'd just be here again. I know you are up there watching out for me, I wish i could just hear your voce one more time
When I saw Brian Long's name on TVG's year in review, I was saddened; it was a name I remembered well from GGF, he was a great competitor, and being the same age (born in '64) and a Bay Area kid, I always rooted for him. Rest In Peace, Brian Long. I hope his friends rest peacefully with the knowledge that he's Home. God speed.
I used to bet on him cause we have the same name. He joins a long list of jockeys who have passed way too young in life. Jockeys life with so much pressure it isnt even funny.
Lovely Tribute! I still can't believe he is gone! I knew Brian his entire life. My parents and his parents were best friends and our families remained close to this day. (My father was a jockey. He was killed at Bay Meadows in a racing accident in 1965). Brian will be forever missed, but I will keep him alive always in my heart! It is comforting to know Brian had found peace in his life before his tragic departure. Love, Peace, and my deepest condolences to all...
Although I never met Brian, I feel horrible for his mother and his sister. I used to be a girlfriend of his father, Dale Long. I also met his sister, who is extremely bright, and went to her high school graduation with Dale. I remember seeing his mother at his sister's graduation and telling Dale how beautiful his ex-wife was. I didn't learn of Brian's passing until a few weeks ago. I work at a tack store on Saturdays across from Bay Meadows and someone informed me. My condolences to all.
Thank you Connie for reponding to my post. My son Sean was born 25 years later on Brian's birthday and is a U.S. Marine Corp. Recon soldier. I also spoke to Mike James, his agent and the Chaplain who baptised him.
Thank you so much. We were like brother and sister, we loved, we fought, we spent time in Del Mar together one summer and had a blast. I used to be the jockey barbar in the jocks room here at Bay Meadows and Golden Gate fields, so I pretty much know everyone. I recieved many phone calls from around the country when this happened.
Thank you so much Connie. Brian was my nephew, we were close in age and I will miss him dearly. I am Ronnie Banks sister and live in San Mateo, California. Blessed Be!
