  • Thumbs up if u also thoght this was only a flash game

  • Wow, you're stupid.

  • You can NEVER win in the tournament.. That's the primal rule of Defender of the Crown.

  • @LaMinorTonu I have. Just hit the shield.

  • I loved the c-64 version of the first part. Looking to this is really amazing!

  • Amazing graphics. This looks great even today.

  • 7:35 - Leeeerrrrooyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Jenkinsssssssssssssss!

  • truely beautiful 2D. That's why those old games had so much soul...

  • Did this game do anything differently from the first game? Because it looks like an EXACT copy but with upgraded graphics, music and speech

  • @natedoggcata

It's pretty much a spruced up DotC 1, yeah. So there was not really that much reason to call it 2.

  • I have never seen one winning that damned joust mini-game ! - and I never did :-P LOL

  • This looks very familiar to the first game.

  • does this work on an emulator?

  • 8:38 It's pretty clear what's going on there. Some hardcore Norman action!

  • It's incredible how much gameplay rythm changed in videogames in 20 years.Watching that guy charging the catapult is something utterly slow and boring.

  • i just watched this video and the Robin Hood Defender Of The Crown video. i played neither of these two games, but i find the clean, idealistic 2D graphics style of the old game much more pleasant to watch than that crude early 3D

  • Why did it get called "defender of the crown 2" ? guess that was only a marketing strategy.. it's exactly the same game as DotC1 wich i played on my good old c64

  • no offense to bill gates, but the amiga was a better pc back in the days until windows was made

  • @AlienX99999 It was better even after windows.

  • Gorgeous Sachs graphics with great use of color cycling.

  • Makes me sad I never had an Amiga

  • @thatguyontheright1 yeah I Hear you man, I was born when ape escape was out in stores

  • @AlienX99999 I was born when Super Mario 3 was in stores.

  • A great upgrade of a great game!

By the way, Lady Anne was my favorite damsel in this game.

  • no offense but its more like an upgrade than a sequel.

  • theres a remake for ps2

  • Damn those thieves! LOL!!!

  • Great game (though I only played the normal Amiga version and the PC cdrom version later on.

But damn I hated jousting... always sucked at it... usually choose Geoffry Longsword for his swordfighting

  • I loved the original on the C64.

  • 8:38 keep it rated!

they don't make games like they used to. lol.

  • I had no idea a sequel was made. Lovely game that.

  • Thanks for this video, I loved the Amiga version but have never seen the improved CDTV version. Looks really not bad, just a shame that they didn't keep the original theme music. The original theme sounded so great, and the new music here is just sooo lame compared to it...

  • Doesn't say much for your castle when it can be seiged by 5 guys. :)

  • loved that game...

  • James D. Sachs is awesome! He made it all!

  • mother of coolness

  • The resue of the maiden at 8:18 for those too impatient. :)

  • Always wondered what this game was like; thanks so much for posting this!

  • Who needs GTA etc when u have games of this quality !

  • and made it by one guy! James D. Sachs!

  • Don't knock GTA, though - it's made with a lot of heart, and it shows in each part of the series. And that's what really makes games great in my opinion.

  • Reminds me of mount and blade.

  • Ahhh man. They removed the scene where the princess removed her clothes. Darn. That was in the C64 version, but I guess they decided to clean it up for the CDTV game console.

  • @harlykman:

Really? Wasn't that just in the "Tec-Tec" demo by Sodan that there where "Too much clothes"? :)

  • This seems fun

  • Looks as fun as DOTC 1!

  • Amazing! Superb!

Too bad this game was too late to change the fate of Amiga CD... :(

  • 4:29 to 6:26 = lol

  • nice, I used to have this game on my cd32...

  • I love when the catapult is being shot at the castle and the soldiers are just standing around and every time it hits the wall they are like, "ehh, ohh, oi!"......they are quite helpful...

  • A few tournament screen graphics are identical to the screens of DOTC1 !

I believe they pay some homage that way to the original game.

  • I loved the DOTC1 i had it on Atari and it was one of my favourite games.

I also have the remastared DOTC for the PC, but its rubbish. They changed the artwork which i didnt like and they didnt add many new features.

We need a sequel with the original artwork and maybe more in depth gameplay.

  • I'm a big Defender of the Crown fan, so to me this game is really cool. This is more of Jim Sach's "Director's Cut" of DOTC than a sequel, but it is still nice. Some of the original art work was touched up from 32 color to 64 color extra half-bright mode. And a few new pictures were added.

  • colorcycle ftw!

  • Thumbs up for knowing what colorcycle is. :)

  • looks amazing this!

  • Here is a Jim Sache quote:

"Commodore commisioned me to do a new version of Defender of the Crown just for CDTV, sort of a Director's cut. I spent two years programming it, writing a new musical score, and adding new graphics. I even managed to put translations of the game in 5 languages on the same CD. Sadly, Commodore went out of business before it could go into worldwide release."

  • The castle sieges with the catapult must get really boring.

  • Yes it was actually.. :)

  • Finally Got My Hands On A Copy Of This Great Game! A Very Rare Find Indeed!

  • Congratulations!

  • Looks like AGA. I like the bit where once the character is selected, a silhouette appears over the map of him riding to his destination.

  • This is not AGA, as it runs on the CDTV too. The game uses the Amiga's Extra Half-Bright mode which allows 64 colors on the screen.

  • Lol.

    *catapult*

*breaks a small bit of the wall*

    Yay!

    *silence*

    *catapult*

*breaks another sall bit of the wall*

    Yay!

    *silence*

  • @AngelusMetronome Lol I loved tha bit too

  • My first strategy game, long memories

  • The game reminds me of a compter version of the boardgame Chainmail.

  • wow i didnt see that cd32 version, looks like great. also first amiga version was great too.but this is more eye-candy style.

  • This game is classic

  • really nice game actually, used to have it for my cd32 a long time ago. not much strategy involved though....

  • Anyone remember Lure of the Temptress... man! those were the days....

  • surely i remember, starting from dungeon, burn it and so on. was absolutly golden ages of game history.

  • Stunning looking game, wayyy ahead of it's time. I didn't even know a CD32 version existed, it's a lot more in depth than the 16 bit versions clearly. Some old friends of mine used to play it on the Atari ST all the time, & it was awesome on there aswell, & the Amiga etc. The GFX always amazed me, so full of great detail/colour, plus there's a lot of new screens in this CD version that weren't in the original floppy Amiga/ST versions. Still looks stunning now. I wanna track this down on eBay :D

  • They released an Amiga CD version!? Had I know about this some years ago, I would have... well, that's not rated G, so I'll keep it to myself

  • hahahaha i have this game. Robin always asks if he can help.. like he is some kinda friendless loser that annoys people to hang out.

  • great graphics, great sound, this game really brings you to the past, that's something that the nowadays technologies can't beat.

  • I love this game!

With a little hassle it was possible to play this on my A1200!

It was a massive game! (_+/-200mb) for that time. and took up all my precious harddisk space.

    but I loved it!

  • The amount of detail that went into this game is simply amazing. Would hate to have been the pixel artist.

  • wow, I used too loved that game, bring back memories and remember the three stoogies

and rocket rangers? some good games!

  • the saxon maiden is soo hottt!!!!

  • eins der besten Spiele für die damalige Zeit, daumen hoch

  • i like the c64 version omg i remember some good old days

  • a danish flag on the wall in the room where anne was held captive.. never noticed that before..

  • Amiga <3

  • I had the original on the NES, never knew they made a sequel - though actually it looks to be just a modified version of the first one really.

Never had a Amiga CD, just a 1200 - there didn't seem much point in getting one as they were just re-releasing all the old games I already had. Then it just died a death after a few months.

  • "I had the original on the NES, never knew they made a sequel - though actually it looks to be just a modified version of the first one really."

The original version was for the amiga. It was ported to lots of other computers and consoles. Somehow the NES version ended up uglier than the C64 version.

  • i think the ZX spectrum is perhaps the ugliest. My atari ST version of the original was at least a very good attempt

  • "Original" on the NES, don't make me laugh! This was one of the flagship products when the Amiga was first launched.

The 64 version had the best gameplay, though...looks like this is basically the 64 version gameplay/design wise, used to revamp the original Amiga version.

  • /sign

  • You mean you had the inferior NES version of "Defender of the crown"? I pity you for only experiencing this classic via such a pathetic port! :(

  • lol I've bought a CD32 on ebay since that comment...

...So yeah, I agree, the NES port was cak.

  • Doesn't mean it's not still fun on the NES. There's only so much you could do with 8-bit then. That's where I fell in love with the game.

  • Yeah, Ilove Youtube. Thankyou for this and all the rest people

  • Wow! I've never seen this game before and I must say I'm really impressed, loads of different things to do, and it almost plays out like a movie! Those were the days...

  • Ahhh yes this was when games were games!

  • Nice video,

on which platform is the shown game played? cd32, cdtv, an emulator?

  • The shown gameplay is from a CD32.

  • That's pretty cool.

Kind of makes me want to go on a hunt for a CD-32 and this game.

  • indeed is for CDTV, and CD32 compatible

  • Yes, Defender of the Crown 2 can be played on the CDTV and Amiga CD32.

  • @ShadraX : and also running on Amiga 1200 with HDD :)
