I have this theory... Gol D. Roger once trained on that Island where Luffy trained with Rayleigh. Maybe they had a stop there after they realised that they are not yet ready for the second part of the Grand Line. Maybe that's why Rayleigh suggested Luffy to train with him for 2 years on that Island. It might be that both Rayleigh and Roger trained once there too. Like I say it's just a theory, but maybe that's the reason Ray suggested this to Luffy, or he just knew Luffy is not ready for the NW.

@TheKagenogundan1 yeah, the frequency of usage and what kind person uses are different. What i want to say is, 'ja' and 'dattebayo' are grammatically in same classification. 'ja' is often used in manga or anime but Japanese people actually hardly use it in real-life conversation. If someone uses it, it's quite odd and funny. 'dattebayo' is much less used than 'ja' in manga or anime, but is more common term, because people in real life use it as 'datteba'

@NickxBobie Yes! But better say old person, not high status. Garp, Kaku and Jimbei's 'ja' 'janou' 'jarou' 'jawai' are same usage. That's why Luffy said Kaku "You sound so old."(see manga chapter 325). Akainu also says 'ja', but It's rather an accent. Kokoro's 'ra'(or 'la) is like a drunkard. Kizaru's 'ne~~~' is loose and funny. Elder Nyon's 'nyo' is... I don't know. lol

Croco left luffy stabbed in quicksand the first time, fatally dehydrated the second, and fatally poisoned the third time and all Luffy managed to do was knock him unconcious once after he lost his cool. Luffy is just another dead pirate without ALOT OF HELP during alabasta. Luffy beats people stronger than him with help and taking advantage of his opponents losing their cool. Enel, Moria, and croco easy examples. Croco fought Mihawk and Don with no injuries
