Nope, it's not based off of a manga, some douche got the rights from the maker of Dragon Ball. It was sooo bad he had to get rid of the first 7 or so episodes and re release them later as lost episodes. Have you ever heard of a Dragon ball series that was so bad they had to cut parts of it out? I think not.

@guyverrob Toriyama oversaw it, he just wasn't very involved. The first few episodes ripped the original dragonball because they wanted the adventure of DB with the action of DBZ. The cutting & and re-releasing of eps only applies to the west because they thought not enough ppl would be interested since it starts off slow. In japan it's a straight set of 64 eps. It doesn't affect the manga but it's still part of the anime series, it's not as if it were fanfic & there are dbz references in GT.

True I suppose, but the Manga is so much better then the anime, and the manga universe has no GT so that's why I prefer the canon story over the cartoon story.

I liked GT's storytelling here's why; Super 17=badass & Gero/Myuu teamup made sense, the Baby Saga wrapped up the Tuffles vs Saiyans battle & introduced ssj4, the mid-end of the shenron saga due to ssj4 fusion and Nuova Shenron actually being the 4star dragon (helping goku & explaining the importance of grandpa gohan giving him the 4star db). I never read the manga, but I have the DB set of 5 which I plan to read very soon, & may get the DBZ set later on, I've heard good things.

I like the manga because it cuts out so much bullshit that the show had. The show was great, I just didn't like how they stalled as much time as they could (for good reason of course but still). If you want i can send you the link to a site that has all the volumes to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball z.
