  • i always thought they should have made a real song. like one people would know. lol

  • @guitarnerd19 the tune comes from the William Tell overture, most famous for being the theme music for the Lone Ranger radio and television shows

  • 21 people crashed cause they were so distracted by the melodies

  • LOL, I went to school a mile from here. Many things have changed in the last four years.

  • That's GREAT! An interacive musical experience.

  • haha nice. good times. Lancaster FTW!

  • They should have made on that plays AC/DC "Highway to Hell"

  • haha I live close to there :] a little farther than that street.

  • Omfg this is amazing.

  • I missed living in Lancaster

  • @RasberryCake You miss living in Lancaster? I couldn't wait to get away from there.

    Were you born there?

Sometimes I do miss the food though, CA has very awesome food.

  • they need to make it longer that was kinda weak but cool

  • btw did you knwo if you drive over it slower it makes different tone and if you drive ovr it fast it does another tone o.0

  • why does this have so many hits. i went to the new one last year out at 30th... it was a big disappointment.

  • I just went out there yesterday (April 25th, 2009) and it has been paved over

  • It was moved out to Avenue H, which is a mile north. people were complaining about the "noise." I live in lancaster so I know.

  • Too cool !

  • I main top gun movie soundtrack, and thank for fixing problem. thank you batomas

  • Hmmm, I drove over this and it played highway to hell.

  • Make one top gum theme!

    Ride into the danger zone!

  • angelo, top gum? oooo-kaaaayyy.

  • God all of you guys are stupid! Do you think every car, SUV, and truck are going to sound the same? It is based on the weight, wheel balance, and speed. You have to be going 55 in a newer Honda Civic to get it to sound right. Watch the commercial....they measured and tested it before they released the commercial.

  • yep its there just past 30th west

  • My 10 year old daughter and I soooo wanna go see this for ourselves. We might have to do a road trip this summer. That's awsome. Thanks for sharing 2kidsA2Z !!

  • No kidding, geeks stop complaining!

  • To all the morons complaining about it being out of tune, you have to have the same wheelbase as a Honda Civic and you have to be going at the right speed for it to sound proper. Also, uploading it to YouTube probably deteriorated the quality just a bit, and there was probably quality lost during recording because a top-of-the-line mic was not used.

Stop bitching, enjoy it, and start thinking before you decide to leave stupid comments.

  • take a look at the official video, right car - right speed - WRONG intervals. WHY? Because none of what you just said fucking matters. Speed would only affect the key, their interval is still a major third instead of the perfect fourth it needs to be. The quality of the video means NOTHING because the intervals are crystal clear. There is no reason to stop bitching about it because they took an interesting idea and butchered it. I loved the irony of you calling others morons - priceless.

  • I'm sure there were plenty of technical problems they had when they did it, but I honestly don't care. Are you seriously going to bitch me out over how a road sounds when you drive over it?

  • yes. admittedly I have a problem with anyone making excuses for the people who made this road, and I replied to you because you were near the top of the list. But also, your comments showed an ignorance to how these grooves work, and you called others morons for bringing up valid points. The only technical problem was that Honda didn't know which notes to carve into the road, which is a simple thing to fix. As such it sounds terrible and shouldn't be applauded by anyone. Expect better!

  • its just a fuckin musical rode who cares if its off on some notes enjoy it a stfu

  • What a half-assed effort on Honda's part! Out of tune, improper rhythm. It's so easy to do this right, but apparently the Japanese at Honda have become Americanized lazy slackers.

  • Hear, hear! (I hear it, too!)

  • lol

funny, becasue HONDA USA is headed by a guy from the USA

    lol

  • This was a failed attempt to have the grooves play the "William Tell Overture" (theme to the Lone Ranger)... but they apparently never consulted someone who KNOWS how the tune goes. It's off in its intervals and its rhythm at the end. It's close enough for people with no musical ear to say, "Uh, the Lone Ranger?"

  • I know! I was thinking the same thing!

  • Wow you are a douchebag... its a road bro

  • it's a road? you just now figure that out? it's also an expensive commercial to make and Honda missed the mark....., bro!

  • you obviously are really angry about this commercial. Take a step back and realize its entertainment. Or just make your own music road and then we can all bitch about it.

  • No, I'm not angry about it. The anger seems to come from others (see "demboysinred") who feel they need to lash out when someone points out an error. What I am is surprised that this commercial was made with the mistake. In post-production, they could've fixed it by pitch-shifting the tones to make it right. (Then, they could've paved it to hide the evidence!)

  • So you'd rather have them fake it than get it right in the first place? I hope they don't produce cars the way they produced this!

  • Of course not! They should've taken the time to get the notes right, test it, and get it right. It's interesting that the entire project has absolutely nothing to do with the Civic at all. Rather, now it stands as an example of good intention, bad execution.

  • "good intention, bad execution"

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • they should do that everywhere! haha

    like

on i5 put the national anthem or something like that haha

  • LMAO

  • stop hating

  • ur a fagg

  • I don't know how else to say THIS but......

WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOUR RETARDED ASS OPINION????

Now dont you see how ridiculous you sound.

  • It's sort of like a physics/music/art project. If you don't appreciate science or being above animals when it comes to discovery and creativity, then I don't know what to say.

  • Agreed.

  • cool!

  • I know im tipping my creative hand but they should make it a talking road . It should replace speed bumps with the road saying slow down . or you could even have the road be speed sensitive by having it say "you are speeeding". i had this idea about 20 years ago. No funding such is life .

  • The wikipedia article on the Civic Musical Road says it had to be removed and then moved 2 miles away from the nearest house due to noise complaints.

That means if you try to wake up drivers or ask them to slow down, it's counterproductive, since you'd only have such a warning in a populated area where people are going to complain about the noise.

  • That is in part true . but there are many other areas such as approaching tole plazas and highways .I envisioned this not in populated areas perhaps on long stretches of highway where falling asleep is an issue. cool idea anyway

  • Great idea. I am sure it could be done fairly easily. Its hell being a genius.

  • Ohh that is so neat!!!!!!!! I live in Lancaster! I am gonna go out tomorrow and hear this for my self. Thats cool! =)

  • it took me while to figure out the song when I drove over it. At first I thought it was techno because that is what it sounds like lol.

The initial drive over it is really cool, however passing BY it on the opposite side is hilarious when you hear another car going over it. It's just funny hehe

  • i went on it today

  • i didnt hear anything when i drove past

  • it's only on one side

  • yeah that is crazy

  • they say u have to drive 55 to hear it really good.

  • i live in lancaster california i swer to god i do i can believe you in lancaster in a civic si

  • he drove too fast

  • هذا كله كذابفي كذاب

  • this one sounds better than the new one

  • =P yeh that was sweet i did it a couple times on a streetbike sounded funny

  • sounds stupid.

  • they paved it up before i could here it... TT^TT

  • "hear"

  • Cool concept, but slightly off pitch from the actual tune. Our roads out here in Kansas sound more like WWII howitzer's going off. :-(

  • The pitches vary depending on the speed of the car, and a car never travels at a perfectly constant rate, so the music tends to move aroung pitch-wise.

  • The pitch difference had nothing to do with the speed of the car. Unless the guy was speeding up and slowing down 20 mph through out the strip.

  • You're right---the pitch is off from the actual tune. Actually, the intervals are incorrect. That's why it sounds wrong. It seems that no one consulted a musician for the correct intervals. It's close enough for most tone-deaf people to say, "Yeah, it's the Lone Ranger theme"... but anyone who understands music should hear the difference.

  • easy there captain perfection..... it gets the point across right?

  • Comment removed

  • you think there was a point to this commercial? please elaborate.

  • take it for what its worth. At the end of the day they are trying to sell a car, not music.

  • Well, if the point is that Honda is willing to produce shoddy, half-ass material, then yes, it does get the point across. I assure you, this does not make me want to buy a Honda. This would be so easy to do right, but they hired pinheads to do the project. What a shame.

  • I'm not a musician but I can even tell thats off. xD

  • woow

  • yes they r rebuilding it out on avenue g

  • What there buliding another one? When?

  • I'm glad you're no longer here, Falador. Last thing we need are morons like you.

  • I fear subliminal messages will be next...

  • my cousins live there. the sound drives them crazy

  • cool in a nerdy kind of way

  • that is perhaps the coolest thing ever

  • lol .. its a road that the HONDA corporation made, apparently, in Ca. Do you know how to read, and hear things ?

  • very cool

  • live there

  • Cool video

  • imagine if this was a really busy road that had like bumper to bumper traffic. it would sound crazy.

  • q é isso???

  • that is such a cool idea for roads far away from houses. I think it might be bad for fuel economy driving over the groves but in general its a good idea except won't the song become techno if you drive faster? it would be great if they could make a "Life is a Highway" road tune or "Highway to hell" road.

  • ah, my old stomping grounds. I dont miss it :D

  • wow that is cool!

  • just a bit out of tune, hmmm?

  • Wow, those Honda engineers can't carry a tune!

They should have gotten some help from some Suzuki violinists! :)

  • O(∩_∩)O~

  • yoyoo

  • not so good music.

  • I'm waiting for, "that song was so soothing I fell asleep and killed someone." Now I'm suing CA.

  • Who cares. I am too lazy to vote anyway.

  • Lol thats cool... but what's the point!

  • Ahh cool

  • Uh, cool. But so what?

  • Cool.

  • Wrong notes.

  • im there dude

  • oh that's great.

  • lancaster is a bored city..

but good for a space shuttle arrive on the dry lake in lancaster

  • Ya have to drive! 52 Mph. why? thats the Yr the show furst came out on TV! So dont go 55 52 is the Key!!

  • cool beans!

  • That is a wonderful idea!

  • i bet that would get old if you had to drive it every day... but it's a moot point, since they bulldozed it already.

  • thats cool. nothing like that in connecticut.

  • Totally cool - of course they destroyed it, I gave someone pleasure - it made someone happy, you think they would intentionally get rid of it - yep!!!

    They suck!!

  • calm down dude their building in another location

  • I hate Mayor Paris!!!

  • So the city council meeting was this evening, and demolition of the road started this morning at around 7am. I spoke at the meeting about the road, expressing my concern about how quickly they were to get rid of it, and was told that reason they moved so quickly was because of safety concerns regarding all of the u-turns. When I asked how many car accidents had actually occured on the road as a result of u-turns, i was told by Mayor Paris, "Well, none"

  • I drove on this road 3 times! :D It sucks though that they got rid of it : /

  • DID THEY ACTUALLY GET RID OF IT? they need to hold off until thanksgiving when I will be home.

  • They did in fact get rid of it : /. It was near houses and people were complaining about it so yeah they got rid of it v.v;

  • Not so pleasant to the people who live near it. Why didn't they have the foresight to construct this away from any residential zones? If the roads near my house buzzed all night long, I'd be out there with a bag of cement myself.

  • I agree, it's a stupid idea to have it near a residential area. They didn't think things through. It should be where only people in the car can hear it, somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.

  • it's not that close to houses at all. people just don't have anything better to complain about.

  • wow that is SICK! i heard they are getting rid of it tho... whats up with that?

  • There are not that many houses in the area, it is not that loud. It is just a few people ruining it for everyone.

  • I heard if you drive backwards at 55 mph, it plays Led Zeppelin songs and makes demonic noises... but you have to be in a Yugo.

  • This is, by a margin too large to measure, the greatest comment ever posted on this YouTube.

  • Not really

  • hahaha, agreed.

  • *Jumps in Yugo and pulls out map of California*

  • What a waste of money. I'm assuming the taxpayers are going to have to front the cost of repairing this.

  • i went on that road yesterday

  • Absolutely the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. It's sad they are paving over it.

    Old people complain about everything!!

  • Hay now not all us 'old poeple' complained. I think it's the coolest thing ever.

  • DUDE I love images or video about the SUN, whats wrong with that? thats why I clicked on the video, lol

  • That's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't imagine the engineering that went along with figuring out the grooves in the road to match the make, weight and tires of that Honda. LOL! Awesome!

  • Please tell me you don't really think that the road only works on that one specific model of Honda...

  • It doesn't! It works on any car, but they say it works BETTER with Honda :-)

  • I like how smooth it is...it sounds like a horn.

  • Maybe they should do this on highways so that when I'm driving out of state I won't be as bored while driving.

  • wow that is nuts! I have a Honda Civic I wish I lived around there I would drive it every day!!

  • Someone should have tossed a bunch of apples on the road.

  • WEll, at least people are recording it, so we know what happened, right? And who cares if a few notes are slightly off? Just the fact that they got that close to it makes it pretty awesome.

  • None of this matters as they are paving over it anyway! Too many complaints from the locals! Go figure!

Tax Payers Dollars Hard at Work!!!

  • Yeah the problem is the relative pitch between the notes is wrong at ANY speed... if they grooved it right it would have been far... groovier, man. Its the same reason Natalie Merchant drives me nuts. Get the NOTES right, people!

  • Needs to be at exactly 55 mph.

  • Needs to be exactly 55 mph in a Honda Civic apparently :P

  • Prolly better to hit it at 100kph (62mph)

  • Dude, I think you were going too slow. that is why I think it is off pitch, and too slow.

  • hahahaha!!

  • I just read an article by way of FARK that says they're paving over that road.

  • on tuesday

  • I think the reason they've paving it over is because that is NOT the music Rossini wrote. Perhaps if it were actually in tune, the neighbours would be less annoyed. XD

  • Yeah, I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to listen to this terrible rendition of something that sounds nothing like William Tell Overture every time I drove on that road.

  • how about maximum overdrive by 2unlimited??

  • Didnt work for me when I drove my unicycle along there..

  • Amazing

  • we do have bumps at junctions in the UK that make a sound as you approach them. they can be found on major roads as you approach junctions. the strips known as rumble strips, get closer together as you get closer to the junction encouraging the driver to slow down the closer you get.

also the strips are bright yellow so you can see them as you approach in daylight.

and yes it does work, there are fewer accidents at these juncionts.

  • Yeah, they have those in Ontario too, and I think I've seen them in some parts of the states.

  • Rumble strips I mean, not these musical roads, which I think are fun. Imagine if they just had them as voices pitching products at you though.

  • "and yes it does work, there are fewer accidents at these juncionts."

Dude, how did the T in "junctions" manage to move over to the right like 3 places?
