i got the "yes virginia" song stuck in my head wwhen i heard my local chior sing it like angels... it was just perfect, and now i know where the perfect song came from! i LOVE it! amazing christmas spirit even if there is no white christmas.
However different the ideas of Santa Claus have been throughout the ages the world over, the concept and spirit of Santa Claus are every bit as real as Christmas itself. I'm 44, and I believe in Santa Claus.
Today the beauty of life and love in that which is not seen, but never viewed can take away this element of care, love and being with others at this time of year can alter this letters intention.
Personally, my feeling of awe and joy is inspired more by contemplating the unfathomable mystery of space and time, than by thinking of Rudolph and the elves on the North Pole. Ok for 3-year-olds, though.
The real world, and universe, is far more mysterious and wonderful than a made-up old fat man who dispenses toys for good boys and girls and makes a list of naughty ones. But, as a metaphor for all that is poetry, love, etc., I can see how "Santa Claus" might suffice. I do, however, protest the need to invent imaginary characters to instill morality ("be nice, or no presents!"). How about, "be nice, because that will make a real difference in a world that needs it"?
A Person who doesn't believe in Santa, doesn't believe in happiness, kindness, friendship, miracles and love. He embodies all these things. No matter who you are, your religion or how rich or poor you are. He gives everyone hope. If all people can believe as Virgina does, then we would all be truely happy.
Merry Christmas all, may the magic that is the spirit of santa be with you all.
I'm just curious to see how Virginia first responded to this. I feel like the author explores such deep concepts that I think would go over an 8 year old's head.
I love this video. My little boy came to me a month ago and asked me the same question. I simply printed the letter off and read it to him. I love this story.. I'm 42 years old, and I BELIEVE IN SANTA !!!
Santa is as real as the air we breath as real as a yellow leaf in winter no matter what people say I will belive even if u can't see him dosnt mean he isn't real so my hole point is santa is real and always will. I take pitty on non belivers Santa is real he as real as the sun the and the stars
I'm 11 and tons of people say Santa not real but I know no matter what they say there will always be a santa to make us all belive what we can't see makes this world better and Santa is one of those yes to everyone there is a Santa and there always will be like there will be a god. Santa watchs us so at x-mas time we know what we did wrong so we don't do it over we get love and hope from santa he's as real as the world we sand on and the air we breath yes Santa is real and will always be real.
Sadly im 25 and christmas has changed. I know how its changed though and thats because I dont beleive in the magic anymore. I would do anything to be able to actually beleive in santa clause and he was the one that brough the presents. I know he exists in us but I think you all know what im saying.
@stalker42 I know what your saying. I think you know what I am saying. I do not get the same joy out of Christmas. I am not a saint but I have done many things for complete strangers without expecting anything in return. Funny thing is Dec 25 2009 I was trying to trade in a video game but did not realize all the stores were closed in Ohio. I was driving through Toledo Ohio and decided to watch Avatar since the stores were closed
@stalker42 (my family had our christmas on the 26) any way after the movie I am driving home and I see a car with there 4 ways on and another car parked behind. A man had this woman in her car but was doing nothing to help her. I told her that I would get her gas. I got her in my car and took her to the gas station. I bought a 2 gallon gas can and filled it up with gas for her. I asked her what she did and she was a nurse at a nursing home making 8 dollars an hour with a daughter. She wa young.
@stalker42 I knew with out asking she was struggling. I asked her how her Christmas was and she said good and her daughter loved it. She said she only had 4 dollars to her name to give me. I wouldnt accept it. I put the gas in her car than had her drive back to the gas station and I filled her tank up for her. Again she tried to give me her last 4 dollars but I refused. She was late for work. She actually cried some and hugged me.
@josh19852008 i enjoy helping other and it makes me feel good to do so.i am actually addicted to it so am i doing it for them or me?it makes me feel good so am i being shallow?i dont know but everyone is a winner in the end.so does it matter?
@TheWICCACHANNEL I want to know I am helping people who truely need it. Not people who are not willing to help them selves. Not someone I know who wouldnt do the same for someone else.
@josh19852008 i personally like the video.but who can tell there are so many con artists out there begging for a free lunch all we can do is hope they are honest
@stalker42 I have done many things for people I do not know. All in the hope that if some day I were to be in that situation that someone would help me just like I helped them. Hopefully those days never come. I dont even remember that womans name. I just hope in some way that she passed it on in some way and any way she could.
@Strosester I am not saying I dont beleive it is just the joy that I can not seem to find. It is like that song "Where are you Christmas" I know it is still there but for some reason I cant find it.
When I was a child, I could open "the veil" and see "the supernal beauty and glory beyond". As I grew up, the veil in front of me covers that beauty and can't be opened again, but I still remember that wonderful scene. Only children who believe in Santa Claus can see it. So I know there's a Santa Claus.
That made a tear roll down my face. Not very many things in the world can do that to me. That was beuatifull. Im 14, and i believe that there is a Santa Claus
Santa is real i am 12 and always will believe in this jolly man because just if you cant see him what does it prove? nobody sees him but thats not a sign !the most real things in life is the unseen like religions or imagination that will happen soon :)
The world is Mad, we have war because the world is run by people who don't believe and cherish Santa Claus. Santa Claus is real, just like the internet is real. Santa Claus exists over a network of people who want to do unselfish acts for those who are less fortunate, a united social effort to make the world a better place one person at a time.
Thank you for this post! What beautiful and insightful words Mr. Church wrote those many years ago. His words should be read not just at Christmastime, but all through the year.
No, I don't believe it is lying. There is a Santa. There is a Santa every time you give to charity, every time you help someone with a flat tire, every time you do something just because you want to bring joy or happiness to someone. What a sad world this would be without Santa.
I have a 6 year old son and I asked him why Santa does what he does and he said "To teach me how to give." My kids gave one of their toys to charity this year and were thrilled with the fact that they were Santa.
The message of Santa Claus is the message of giving unconditionally, of bringing joy without expectations. When I found out that my parents put the presents under the tree and said someone else did it...I believed even more in the spirit of Santa. They did all that and never once asked for a thank-you.
Well, if they thought it was a skeptical age over 100 years ago, what would they think now? We are 100 times more skeptical now in the age of moral relativism we live in.
I love this. And the new commercial. I saw some kids writing letters to Santa at the mall, the mall put out a little mailbox they had that posted letters to Santa and it made me feel great that people actually want to make kids feel special, and there IS a Santa. So whether Santa is real or not...is up to YOU.
This letter is just so beautfiul...i read it online and the writer nailed exactly waht santa clause is. it's just such a good letter. :) it made my teacher very emotional just thinking about it.
this letter makes a valid point, if there is at least one being who belives santa exist's, than he exists... in your heart, and in the one place that no one can change, the imagination of your own mind... in my opinion, he does exist, and he lives in the spirit of christmas... he represents that who knows nothing of greed, but of joy... and the more people say he does not exist, the more the world looses the true meaning of christmas... so if you were to ask me if he does exist, I will gladly
This is probably the most charming and beautiful video I have seen in a while and it speaks volumes to the human sense of wonder. And here we have people posting ill comments of course and bitching about it. Since its Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the internet. Without it, people who normally keep to themselves for fear of the consequences of their comments can come and criticize the work and accomplishments of others in a consequence free environment to make themselves feel better.
As a Mother and Grandmother, I think the general message of this video is wonderful! If only more adults would learn to BELIEVE in that which they cannot see and have child like faith the world would be a better place. "Faith is the Substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"
As a Mother and Grandmother, I think the general message of this video is wonderful! If only more adults would learn to BELIEVE in that which they cannot see and have child like faith the world would be a better place. "Faith is the Substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"
ok Kid? I'm not sure where you got that I'm 18 one from but ok.
Second of all, how dare you accuse me of doing drugs? Just because you live in some deranged world with sex, drugs and violence doesn't mean that I'm right there with you. Turn off your TV, go up to the mountains and take in the peace and quiet. Maybe that'll calm you down. Or swallow poison...either way you'll be relieving the world of one more hater.
Santa / Satan? You think santa's the devil now? Crazy filth.
You are not thinking clearly. Giving children false hope does nothing but destroy that hope later in life. It gives children the opportunity to experience being LIED to.
I remember when I found out about Santa. I was 9 years old. I felt betrayed by my parents and it took YEARS for them to gain my trust back. It was a major blow in my life.
You are all insane if you think telling lies to our children actually helps them.
When I found out, i was upset for a day, then my parents let me in on their scheme to surprise my brother and sister. I got over it. Maybe I just had better parents than you. Who knows? Maybe you're just a little to soft?
I wouldn't deprive my children of a few years of happiness and something to look forward too because I couldn't handle it when I was a child.
And yes we do live in a sick world, Grinch. What a killjoy you are! Go back to your cave and stop spreading the negativity around.
You don't get it. Nor do I expect you to. You're 18, have eaten too much fast food, drank too many Red Bulls, have seen more sex and violence on tv than every person in the human race before 1905 combined, and are probably addicted to caffeine or some other type of drug. I don't expect much from any of us. We are derranged, unhealthy, mindless, ignorant apes.
Ur the sick person. Why not let kids pretend, believe in something that is magical? What ur want ur kids is to be stuck up people with no love. And not get over it for YEARS?!?! I have two words for you: BIG BABY!
I am truely sorry you feel that way. And I am truely sorry that you found out in the manner that you did. But please don't take the bad that has happened to you as what happens to everyone, and the every child would feel the level betrayal that you felt.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But is it right to lie to your children? They would be right to doubt everything else you say as a result.
Why not play a game where you tell your kids "Let's pretend there's a Santa" to begin with? Then you have the fun of the Santa Claus myth, but without lying to your kids.
You act like were telling kids a horrible lie, all we're doing is to try and make them happy, whats the point of life if we can have any faith at all in anything?
I am Santa Claus! How are you everyone.

So now we are fighting to mislead our own children? We are provoking their delusion because "They'll grow out of it someday..."????
YOU LIE TO YOUR KIDS SO SOMEONE ELSE CAN BRING THEM OUT OF THE DECEPTION YOU HAVE PROVOKED THEM TO?
What is WRONG with this world?! This isn't BEAUTY. This is ABSURD!!!!!! Tell your children THE TRUTH!!!!

You should listen to the words before you comment. Looks like all you did was look at the title. Your answer is in the video.

What a sick world we live in...

Kid, you think like a kid.
When you HAVE a kid, you'll think like an adult.
Satan. Santa. Satan. Santa. CHRISTmas. X-mas. Grinch?

OPEN YOUR EYES, EVERYONE. THERE IS A WAR ALL AROUND US!
How's that for Grinch? The truth hurts.

Have a very Merry Christmas. :)
