  • Streetlight is pioneering the Fourth Wave as we speak. I'm very sad to see Reel Big Fish getting older, but it's great that they keep going. We can't let ska die!

  • There's a whole new generation of Ska as we speak! This Ska-core shit got real sweet at the turn of the century.

  • I'm 17 and I miss Ska, may the 90's Rest in Peace.

  • You forgot Aggrolites, they are the bomb!

Oh and you spelled Skatalites incorrectly in the credits, not good.

  • Ska-punk for the fucking win!

  • u completey forgot about bad manners

  • Ska is cool, in the usa it is shite, leave it too the originals please.

  • Five Iron Frenzy, Streetlight Manifest and Reel Big Fish are still around so I can feel a fourth wave building up =D

  • 3rd wave me fuckin arse, who ya trying to fool. U.S speeded up bullshit, thats not ska......

  • LONG LIVE SKA!

  • good ol mighty mighty bosstones

  • The Selecter!!!

  • What had Ska been without Fats Domino !?!!

  • I <3 fucking <33333333333333 the specials. that is the ultimate definition for me and 311, the expendables

  • Ska.. dead? Check out TheSquealingSquids ! New Ska/2Tone band :D

  • Original Fishbone member Chris Dowd's new band the Ultra Infidels has brand new music up on youtube. Look up Ultra Infidels Sampler Platter...

  • i remember well the ska scare of the 90s, when we feared it would become popular in the pop scene and we'd have to listen to it for more then a song or two a day.... phew. lols

  • @malky2583 are you saying that they would have played ska too much? or that ska would be considered a type of pop music?

  • @jackerx5 As in I didn't like it, didn't want to hear it.

  • my ska!

  • what are the songs being played throughout the whole video? especially the first one

  • what is the name of the first two background songs?

  • acutally the "2nd wave a ska" is called ska punk and is a mix between ska and punk rock but is considered another form of punk and streetlight manifesto falls under this category not a 4th wave of ska

  • 4390116 when you down with sublime you get..........

  • very intresting, never knew what ska was till now

  • what the name of song by the skeletones?

  • @SomeDudesFishing sorry, i was having a bad day

  • @SomeDudesFishing sorry man i was having a bad day

  • @SomeDudesFishing Same as to lostmemoriesrule. Name the bands, I'll dig them up and place them.

  • @Trasta419 I agree, but I think Sublime is less considered "pure" ska than RBF.

  • Awesome video! Ska lives on!

  • Reel Big Fish is to Ska what Blink 182 is to Punk. An utter disgrace.

  • @TheAxeMixa blink 182 isnt a discrace to punk there first two albums in the early 90s were punk rock go on itunes and listen to them

  • @farneymusik I just listened to there first albums and they still sound shit. Look up Circle Jerks and the Dead Kennedys for true punk gods.

  • brilliant video ska lives !

  • can someone give me the name of the song by the skeletones at 3:48

  • I think we are in the middle of the fourth wave right now with bands like pepper, slightly stoopid, and lots more. I don't understand why this video has reel big fish mentioned but not sublime. In my opinion, and I'm sure others agree that sublime is the biggest ska band to hit the stage. Their live performances was unmatched.

  • Brilliant vid from a true fan !!!!

  • YOU FUCKING FORGOT OPERATION IVY!!!!! >:O

  • @lostmemoriesrule

Operation Ivy doesn't even have a horn section they are more important to alternative punk rock than to ska punk.

  • @polarbearoughey /watch?v=j6EVwQJN3oA

  • @lostmemoriesrule Nope. The list is building. Keep the suggestions coming!

  • i know Roddy out of specials

  • Whats the name of the song at 3:02?

  • @bobfari The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Someday I Suppose.

  • Dam im in love wid dis music! has a nice jazzy/reagea beat

  • Ska is not a ghost town at all....you just have to go to Japan or Latin America and you will find the 4th wave....... :) :3

  • There's this 3rd wave Ska Punk band, Suburban Legends - they are awesome. They never cease to put a smile on my face :)

  • It's too bad that in this video with The Specials, the black dude isn't playing an instrument, it's just the lilly white boys. Ooops, wait. He does, towards the end. My bad.

  • It's too bad that in this video with The Specials, the black dude isn't playing an instrument, it's just the lilly white boys.

  • Awesome. Absolutely awesome! The skatalities, street light manifesto. ReelBigFish is good if you don't mind it has a punk mix.

  • You forgot to tell about Fats Domino and most importent : "Be My Guest" , in the history of Ska!! Aint that a shame ?!

  • AHHHHHH!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVED IT. GREAT JOB. I'M DANCING IN MY SEAT WHILE WATCHING AND SMILING!!!!

  • this was highly accurate except for a few details ska origionated closer to the 1930s from a native jamaican music called menitone i thinks thats hows yous spells it lol. and the origional skin heads were black women who were being dragged into allys and such places by there hair and being rapped and beaten.

  • @hoss3233 "Mento"

  • Anyone can tell me the names of the different tracks in this documentary? they are pretty awesome

  • SKA FOREVER!!!!!!!

COOL Video Mellow. Where was early No Doubt tho'?

  • I dislike Third wave Ska

  • @drobson876 I agree, it's definitely ska, but there's something, I don't know, 90's-sarcastic-asshole about it.

I liked the happiness of 1st and 2nd wave, it's nice and light, really tropical island music. I know the darkness was always there, but to have it be so overwhelming; it's not very fun.

  • @loldude83 it's to americanised! though i like the fact English bands/ex bands still have that 2Tone feel to them e.g The Dead 60's, Ordinary boys and New bands like Kid British :)

  • ska isn't dead.... i'm 13 and i love it :D

  • Why'd you skip operation Ivy, or ska-core bands like choking victim?

  • 3:33 morgan freeman on the left?

  • There's a nifty up-and-coming band called "The Seven Dollar Sunglasses" I just found, y'all should check em out.

  • where's sublime?

  • @rockdeleste sublime did have some ska influences, such as date rape, but they were more of a reggae band.

  • thank you mellowdeeska, at last some who knows, we are are not all mindless "skinhead" thugs......

anyone reading this shoud try "fat freddys drop", awesome band.....

  • Would The Police be considered ska?

  • @kJustsoup Just heard of Ska myself and find it a genre I want to listen to more. Need to be politically incorrect here. Ska has a problem of being racially neutral and of the working class. Music has, since the 40s, done more to erase the racial divide than any political movement. The powers in music and politics appear to need a racial divide. This is Ska's problem in the US. Nothing will ever get resolved until race baiting and class warfare is stoppped.

  • @Robbob9933 political correctness... some dumb shit. If you got somethin to say, I say, say it. Just dont be a douche.

  • What is the music at the VERY BEGINNING of this video? The DO DO DO DO DO DO DO, DO DO DO, BEFORE "I'm gonna give you news to tell you're a man"?

I've been trying to find out what that music is for four years.

  • SUBLIME !!!!!

  • Anyone interested in hearing new music from ex-Fishbone member Chris Dowd's new project The Ultra Infidels, type "The Ultra Infidels" and "Stop!" into youtube...

  • @JohnDeathMetal "Streetlight Manifesto." Nuff said.

  • @JohnDeathMetal yes there are skacore bands out there

  • @skamaster21 can you tell me some?

  • @JohnDeathMetal just search up skacore in google. i personally don't like skacore i prefer first wave ska, second wave, and the third wave. and also j -ska

  • @JohnDeathMetal but sure ill post some

  • @JohnDeathMetal i know one good Spanish ska band called ska-P they have some pretty hard rocking songs. one's called Intifada. they sing in Spanish tho but there a pretty bad ass band for some ska/punk music

  • Maybe Europe will have another go with ska. Irie revoltes anyone?

  • Ska never dies.

This is just the transition between waves and generations.

  • THE 5TH WAVE!!!

  • Great video. I love learning anything I can about the best music in the world!

  • Streetlight Manifesto is the 4th wave of SKA!!!

  • @ESPguitarist1969 or still 3rd wave? I don't think the 3rd has ended yet, little bubbles of ska keep bursting into mainstream every so often though.:D

  • @ESPguitarist1969 nah theyre definitely third

  • @ESPguitarist1969 NO because that band is gay as fuck. If anything, skacore is.

  • REEL BIG FISH!!!!!!!!

  • it's great to learn about ska, but what about ska in latinamerica?? Here in Mexico ska is alive and hitting hard as always.

  • lets start the 4th wave of ska!

  • It's A crime that you didn't mention Sublime, Catch 22, or Slightly Stoopid. P.S. There's a popular Ska band from Hawaii called Pepper and they sound sort of like Sublime.

  • Spanish Ska is not dead

  • @babycherio1 for real, who said ska is dead.. they must be braindead, i agree, fuck off!!!! ;)

  • @boazandjiacinth thanks mate

  • oi! oi! ska!!!!

  • I think there were more than just 3 waves. If you count the 4th wave of ska, being bands like the Busters, Braces, Napoleon Solo, Toasters, NYCitizens, Let's Go Bowling, etc. You also should have added Symarip, Phyillis Dixon, Prince Buster, etc. I don't count bands like Sublime as a ska band, because they had ska influences did not neccessarily make them a ska band. I could add a few other bands to that list, Ska Flames being one of the better bands.
