@indyfan22k lol, too funny and the Seals were already fucked up. lol.
White skates, the players hated them and when the league took over the team in the beginning of 1974, the white skates were retired and the players wore black skates with their green and yellow uniforms for the rest of the season. They were glad that Finley was gone. lol
@indyfan22k lol, now they are in Winnipeg and the fans are so ready for hockey after a 15 year absent from the NHL. They had an AHL team and a small arena that holds 15,000 people. The MTS Centre will be the smallest arena in the NHL. Atlanta Spirit fukked up the team and sold the team to True North and moved them to Winnipeg and now known as the Jets. lol. In the past, the old Jets had a bad ownership and that carried on to Phoenix and put the Yotes into bankruptcy.
@indyfan22k A year later, the Yotes still don't have an owner and they are still in the relocation threat. They have only 1 more year left in Phoenix and if they don't get an new owner, the team have to be sold to an outsider and relocate. Jim Balsillie is one of them, but Hamilton is too close to Buffalo and Toronto. Plus, the Sabres and Leafs won't let a team move or expand to Hamilton. They owned that territory.
@indyfan22k damn rite, Atlanta Spirit fukked up the Thrashers and the Coyotes are fukked up right now. I know the Jets games are packed and it is going to be very hard to get in the Jets game in a small MTS Arena. Oh shit, the Coyotes are screwed becoz of the old Jets. The old Jets I think lost money when they were in Winnipeg because of an old arena and an unorganized ownership. It carried on in Phoenix and it got worser.
@indyfan22k lol, too damn funny and the Seals were already fucked up. lol.

werqa123, do you realize you spelled Stasiuk's name incorrectly in the title?
Vic Stasiuk was a total nutjob. He was hired by Garry Young at the beginning of the season and was promptly fired at the end. Around mid-season the players went to owner Charlie Finley (another nutjob) and implored him to fire Stasiuk. Finley responded by saying "if you don't like my f****** coach get off my f***** team!
The NHL wanted Charlie O out of hockey so badly the league bought the team from him.
Way to go, Ivan, for getting the decision on that Magnusson spaz right at the very end! Well - I've got not one but TWO Seals jerseys now - Charlie Finley-era kelly green and yellow, home and away - Meloche #27, and the other one I wanna custom make to player/coach Marshall Johnston, but I can't find out his number!!!!! Is it #2? Help me on this.
Not a bad team in front of Stasiuk here: Ivan Boldirev, Gerry Pinder, Dick Redmond, Stan Gilbertson, Wayne Carleton, Reggie Leach, Gilles Meloche, Bobby Sheehan. Wow!
If this clip is from December, 1971, Carol Vadnais is still with the Seals and Reggie Leach is still in Boston. In February, Vadnais would be traded to Boston for Leach, Rick Smith and Bob Stewart.
This was a very young and promising team, and then - that summer - the WHA arrived, and Finley wouldn't compete to keep his players.
ya gotta love that personalised little pep talk at 2:06. jesus i'd kill to get my grubby paws on a pair of green and yellow skates from the 70/71 season. Even one of those jerseys, above, (not seal logo) would send this bloke to a happy grave. I have to own one of those badder than an away Whalers jersey. That bad.
This coach almost kill Flyers when was coach he had bad relationship with Parent and Lacroix and both left Flyers. Parent to Maple Leafs and later in WHA Philadelphia Blazers and back in Flyers after and won ywo Cups. Andre Lacroix gone to Black Hawks and after in WHA too.
It was fault of this coach. You know what Gilles Meloche single star of the Seals almost left team too from Stasuk?
He was good player in 50's but not so good coach. Common story
Poor Meloche, he really took a beating every game with the Seals....actually at one time he was property of the Blackhawks who then sent him to the Seals for Gary Smith...
@parkman35 " the Blackhawks...then sent [Meloche] to the Seals for Gary Smith... "
Not exactly. The Hawks traded goalie Gerry Desjardins and forward Gerry Pinder to the Seals for Smith. But Desjardins was injured so the Seals protested to the league because in those days you weren't allowed to trade injured players. The Seals wanted Gary Smith back but the league got them to negotiate a settlement and Desjardins was sent back to the Hawks for Gilles Meloche and Paul Shymr.
@vegaslover777 So noted...Back in the 80's the Minnesota North Stars were in Chicago, and after the game I went with some friends to a place a bunch of the Minnesota players were at. Meloche was one of those players and we talked about his days with the Seals, and how nutty it was...but he still felt his time in Oakland was much better than when the time he spent in Cleveland.
Here's a history of the Seals' skates. In 1970-71 they wore green and yellow skates the next year they wore white skates and the players didn't like them. The Seals continued to wear white skates until the NHL took over the club in 1974 they switched their yellow and green jerseys to aqua blue and got their black skates back in their final 2 seasons. In this game the players were switching different skates because they didn't like the white skates and it happened every game!!!
The Seals were switching skates I think in each intermission beacause they wore white skates. They wore white skates from 1971-72 till 1973-74 season. They wore back black skates when they switched their uniforms in their final two seasons. They wore green and yellow skates in the 1970-71 season
Vic Stasiuk was a disaster every team he coached. First-hand experience in Vancouver here can attest to that. In fact, Philly dumped him because he was messing up that team comapring everyone to his hero Gordie Howe and not developing the young players.
All I know about the Seals is Chuck Finley and those stupid white skates. And the head of the Seals booster club who was an Asian gentlemen who never forgot someone's name.
Great footage, this was from a half-hour TV program that I remember watching back in the day. I did get a copy of this on Ebay and it's a joy to remember the days of rooting for my Seals!
This is great. I think what people want is to rent vintage games of their choice but nobody has teken charge of this job. There's gotta to be complete game videos out there.
wow...didn't realize Ivan Boldirev could throw punches like that...love seeing Seals footage....please post more if you've got it..also Barons, Scout and Rockies.
And it's good to see the California Golden Seals, owned by Oakland A's owner,Charlie Finley.Finley must have been cringing after seeing this film of his coach!lol!!
The # tone for censoring. ha , love it! The Seals remind me of the Coyotes , really bad management and owners.

Also Ivan Boldirev who dropped the gloves with the late Keith Magnuson would also soon become a Blackhawk and produce several great seasons.
