The majority of the time, Jimmy kicked bass with his left hand and used his left foot to thump the pedals in a staccato manner, which made the left hand notes punchier and heavier sounding. The pedal notes he thumped were not always the same notes he was playing with his left hand. When played like this, the pedals add a "thump" effect to the left hand bass. J.O.S.!
