  • HONOLULU hawaii AT 1968

  • did anyone notice jack lord twitch his eyebrows when he turns to face the camera at 0.19?

  • Totally classic, it is a great theme song!!!

  • Loved that hot Hawaiian boy in the intro!!!!! He was gorgeous

  • This is classic.

  • OMG ITS MY LOST PENCIS THATS WHERE IT WAS :D!!

  • However, the newer version lacks the power and punch of this particular hula dancer.

  • The new intro 4 the new series goes the same way

  • i be playin this in school jazz!

  • yes we can... go on the man..

  • All commercial TV cares about is RATINGS. If trash gets good/high ratings then you will see trash. Reality shows are popular? You will see a zillion reality shows. If they videotaped what your dog gets up to in a typical day and it got nice ratings, there would be a camera crew following your canine friend around 24-7 til he had a nervous breakdown.

  • As a student I remember watching a girl dancing to this in a skin tight dress with VPL. She disappeared and before the end of the song returned without VPL.

  • i 've always wondered where this song come from since 2 mimutes ago

  • woah!!!! Kono was a GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great. Not sure if it's greater than Mission Impossible or Space: 1999, though, in my opinion!

  • @cljohnson1966 yeah, i would say Hawaii 5.0, Space 1999 and Mission Impossible were the greatest openings ever. 6 million dollar man gets an honorable mention.

  • @invincibleironman3 Greatest American hero

  • HEY, YOU NEVER RUSH A THEME TO A SHOW LIKE "HAWAII FIVE-O" FOR NO REASON. IT GETS PEOPLE INTO THE MOOD OF WATCHING THE SHOW. IF JACK LORD SAW THE NEW SHOW HE WOULD PROBABLY BE ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE. WHAT A SHAME! THE OLD HAWAII FIVE-0 CAN NEVER BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW SERIES! IT WILL NOT SURVIVE 4 SEASONS! ENOUGH SAID.

  • Its a shame that the new hawaii 5-O didn't do a 1 minute intro but because of a higher rate of advertisments they had to cut it down to 30 seconds, very sad.

  • Today's TV shows will never be able to surpass the TV shows of the 50s, 60s and the 70s.

  • @calihartley2010 thats you're opinion. your generation grew up watching shows from the 50s, 60s and 70s. This is 2012 already of course tv shows wont be like the 60s and 70s. Sure the old shows of the 60s and 70s were good but today is better in my opinion.

  • @TheGBoi604 your opinion is crappy. If you like Glee and Modern Family also Two and a half men then you are stupid. Your comment told me that when I read it.

  • @calihartley2010 .... interestingly enough, the continuing series of shows quality of writing and acting are about equal; The Wire, The Sopranos, CSI, 24, The Unit, Lost, House and a few other shows (Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are quite good.

  • BTW, this was done by the VENTURES.

  • Hollywood doesn't remake everything, my good friend Yankee4Life? Please enlighten me o great one. I love you too.

  • REAL, non geo-engineere skies at the 27 to 28 second mark. The rest has been digitally edited to include fake clouds. I remember this opening as a kid.

  • Creative thinking has died in Hollywood. All they can do is remake everything.

  • @entwistle4ever You can shove it up your ass you son of a bitch.

  • @entwistle4ever I agree with you. When the whites were in control of Hollywood and the music industry we had good quality music and TV programs. Now with liberals and blacks in there, we have nothing but smut.

  • @calihartley2010 ..let me translate; "the propaganda was white controlled" and the continuing propaganda which is still crap - just has more people of color and is more obvious. Its always been about advertising revenue for a brief moment there were good shows on in the 70s "Lou Grant Show", "M.A.S.H." "60 Minutes" but it eventually faded into reality show/garbage, and liberals and blacks had NOTHING to do with it - whites, corporate whites green light the shows, dummy. its about MONEY, period

  • @invincibleironman3 I do agree it is due to greed, but when good conservatives whites controlled the media there were moral potrayed and not filth like it is today. So blame the white liberals and trashy blacks.

  • @calihartley2010 ..yeah, I get that...blame the whites that WRITE and PRODUCE (most importantly) the trashy black and "liberal" shows. Good conservative whites get embarrassed by corrupt politicians who are hypocrites with respect to their personal relationships (Gingrich for one). What filth is there? Flavor of Love? Jersey Shore? Paris Hilton's show ? America's Got Talent? House of Payne? - i agree that viewers taste for badly written reality shows have increased. - I blame Springer

  • @SuperOmnicron Jerry Springer is a liberal jew so he is one of the stupid people who have made TV trashy. Also blame Maury.

  • Walter at 808 Burners can do this better

    PTB

    Mahalo nui loa from Hawaii

  • C'mon guys and gals. I cleared all of this up before concerning Liz Logue, but there's still much misinformation out there. Everyone, PLEASE -- before declaring her premature demise on a public forum, google Elizabeth Logue (Jim Cofer) and read his blog. Also, google her name and IMDB. Her family probably corrected the bad database listing her as having passed. Finally, google her name and Hawaii Tourist Film, and read the comments. She's been mistaken as another Elizabeth Logue, the dancer.

  • @silkwormMissile - WADR, absolutely 100% false concerning Elizabeth Logue. She is alive and well, and quietly withdrew from the limelight many years ago. She values her privacy and is happily married to her third husband. I'll never disclose her location nor identity, but trust me on this, she is still with us, and appreciates the fan interest, however, she embraces her privacy tenaciously.

  • One of my favort shows of all time,I will have to upload some.

  • They are all dead. Jack Lord, Kam Fong, Kono, James Mc Arthur. Even the cute Elizabeth Logue (the woman who's staring at you right now and at 0:23 to 0:24 and again at 0:29, is dead. She was a stunner.

  • @SilkwormMissile But James MacArthur is still up and kicking.

  • @LordWellington15 Well, he might be in heaven. He unfortunately passed on in 2010.

  • nobody did the HAWAII FIVE-O theme like THE VENTURES did.NOBODY

  • nobody did the HAWAII FIVE-O

  • Nothing beats the original.

  • @TheMykcal you mean original beats all.

  • AwesomE THANKS

  • the greatest theme song of all time is mission impossible

  • The theme song and the standard of the editing work was way to high during that time period. Till today the set standard hasn't been caught up to even with advance tech in editing and music. A remake of Hawaii Five O will not be complete without its original theme song.

  • Back in the day when TV was more than a mind-control device for the lizard-heads. Being entertaining, innovative and creative was not just for Youtube back then! :)

  • I have to make this my ringtone!!

  • BOOK UM DAN-O

  • Best theme/intro of all time is right. The editing job on this still amazed me, I wonder if the guy who did it did drugs.

  • It is a nice music indeed, also one of my favorite.

  • Hella cool

  • I knew the theme music but never actually saw the opening credits before. It's insanely kinetic!

  • 0:15 thru 0:19 is cool as hell. JACK LORD!

  • Kam Fong was perfect as "Chin Ho" but Zulu was all wrong as "Kono." :P

  • Hi loved this as a boy in primitive eire as i wacthed it on brid lydons tv in the 60s/ 70s the only one to have a TV away back then, jack was very hard to work with i read up fro filming 4am till 200am and fired a lot of people on the set. but he was cool looking wasn't he? he died of alzimers in 1997 brid is gone as well bless rest them both and to the good old days that were unlike today pb.

  • Did Jack Lord just do a Dramatic Chipmunk?

  • the buetiful buildings make the day in court sound auuhhh woderful

  • I love both versions of the series!

  • Can't beat Zulu as Kono...

  • DID YOU KNOW THAT HAWAII (50) IS THE POLICE PHONE NUMBER IN HAWAII

  • Chin's much better looking in the new version.

  • What awesome haircut? Jack Lord was bald. He wore a wig for the entire 12 years of the show.

  • @SilkwormMissile

Damn you for raping my memories!

  • @aselmac Sorry dude !!

  • "The Greatest Theme Song Of All Time"

    YES

    PASS

  • I like Kono more as a sexy chick

  • @happzy LOL- I liked this version more as a detective show.

  • The Best TV theme tune of all time.

  • hahaha

  • JUST CAME BACK FROM HAWAII YESTERDAY & I HAD TO SEE ALL OF THE THINGS IN THE INTRO BEFORE I WENT BACK TO FLORIDA.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN JACK LORD. WHAT A MISSED SOUL HE IS. R.I.P.

  • i am so happy they still show this in hawaii!

    ironic?

  • Jack Lord's awesome haircut.

  • can you imagine getting loaded in 1968, passing out and the last thing you remember is watching this intro, then you wake up in the 2010s & look around and ask, what the hell happened????

  • ahh good memories of shrek 2 when the trumpet guy plays this and th guy with the scroll whacks him xDD

  • Jack Lord -- December 30, 1920 Brooklyn New York - -+ January 21 1998 Honolulu Hawaii.

  • @ipodguy123g Haha i did.

  • Thumbs up if u came from whiteboy7thst's video

  • the VENTURES

  • TANIO SKORY NIE SPRZEDAM

  • BAD ASS!

  • sounds like something 007 would listen to while on a mission :)

  • favorite line of all times: Book Em Danno

  • There is something cool yet dangerous when you watch the revolver spin. Epic theme song.

  • How do you rate "The Mod Squad" theme, pmyoungtx?

  • Part 2:

It's up in the same wonderful arena as the opens to "Miami Vice", "Mission Impossible", "Baa Baa Black Sheep", "The Twilight Zone" and "M*A*S*H." (And only to mention a few!)

This is no comment on the shows themselves, but the brilliant combination of music and great editing made the "open" a work of art unto itself.

    Bravo...!

    =P

  • Part 1:

Possibly one of the best television "openings" ever

I have worked in the broadcast television industry for nearly 40 years and have written and designed many "opens" to various shows. This one is one of those that has always been one of the benchmarks and in the back of my head as an influence.

  • A classic for all time, with one of the classic TV phrases of all time "Book him, Danno."

  • 0:20 That moment right where his hair moves ever-so-slightly = <3

    I love this show!

  • The coolest TV intro ever. It first appeared over 43 years ago, and has never been challenged.

  • Comment removed

  • There's only one...forget this high fructose corn syrup 2011 shite! Jack Lord and the original Five-0 were the coolest. Can't wait til season 12 arrives on DVD next month!

  • anybody know how James MacArthur ( dann-0) died? Last year he passed away..

  • @zackfan Natural Causes He was 72.

  • I just spent the last hour watching theme songs from the 70's and 80's... trippy. The old days when you didn't have a worry in the world and sat on the couch stuffed your face and watched the tube.

  • Wow dude 4real?

  • hey did you guys know "Jack Lord" and James MacArthur" ( dano) off the set, they were good friends..Did you guys know that?

  • why is everything good made in the past century? The 21st century is just shity remakes.

  • Book'em Danno!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Man. Hawaii was heavily developed back then.

  • 0:14 I always thought that the zoom in on Jack Lord was one of the coolest moments ever to air on television. It still gives me chills to this day and the original series hasn't been on the air in over 30 years. That says a lot when nothing made today, and I do mean nothing, even comes CLOSE to being that cool.

  • @LedWhisky69 I agree. It's one of the best theme tunes ever.

  • @LedWhisky69 i totally agree - at 8 years when jack lord spun around i found him sexy and i still think it looks sexy lol

  • @musicgood4yoursoul omg ...so true...

  • @LedWhisky69 it was pretty cool, how it was done at the time and a kick ass tv show too.

  • @LedWhisky69 actually about ten monthes ago, when the new Hawaii Five 0 came on the air, the channel called Spike was having a week long marathon. I watched almost non-stop with my Dad.

  • Its Nicer Mood Music...

  • this is the best tv cop show that was ever on!!! jack lord..rip.. was the baddest! wicked cool intro ventures...wicked cool cars he drove 68 mercury parklane and the 74 mercury brougham.. filmed entirely in hawaii. new series dosent hold a tikki torch to the original. book em dano!!

  • kam fong as chin ho

  • I like the new Hawaii five o hot Asian guy

  • "zulu as kono" lol

  • 179 People work for Wo Fat!!!!!!

  • @dbnx1701 Yeah! Those stinkin Wo Fat guys.

  • I love how the new one makes Kono a women

  • book em dano !

  • This intro... BLOWS the newer one out of the water!

  • Kam Fong as Chin Ho!!! Still cracks me up!!!!

  • You are correct Shes so pretty and Jack L:ord Was THE ORIGINAL BADASS Book Him Danno

  • I was watching Hawaii Five 0 while the other kids were talking about animated series. Legend.

  • The most awesome theme song in the history of mankind.

  • I agree - the girl at 0.29 - beautiful.

  • Book Em' Danno!!!

  • OMG the area around the Aloha Tower has changed so much!!! I was there just yesterday... the tower the same, but everything else changed....

  • I say to all that view this great clip, the new Five-O does not do justice to the old series nor respect to the late Jack (McGarrett) Lord. My 1st viewing of the premier was in discust. Dano would never laid hands on Steve do we all agree? 2nd. KONO? A girl? No fu@%ing way. Grace Park, Wow! But not as Kono. Anybody think that maybe Thomas Gibson of Darma & Greg and Criminal Minds would make a good 'stone faced' McGarrett? No? Well I do and I'm gonna "book'em" for the part. Aloha

  • @upperdarbybill I second that, and hope you have a Merry Christmas.

  • I remembered (Hawaii 5-0 backin the mid 70's..Great intro.

  • Want to download

  • "Book 'em, Dano!"

"Book them yourself, you haole m*therf*cker!"

  • Hawaii - only state in the US with a Royal palace. True fact.

  • lordy lord it's Jack Lord - pow pa pa pow!

  • they should play this at my funeral

  • What a gorgeous un-mucked about with clean (albeit on film soundtrack) recording of a small band.

  • I have to agree with the poster of this clip...the Best (and most recognised) TV clip EVER

  • Deadpool corps

  • Yeah, the editing was a head of the time and the cutting to the music was way ahead of its time as well. They just need some wacky color correction to make it quite modern. The music was strangely percusively compelling for non-African American music. The horn section was percussive weapon was good.

  • luv it .. i <3 all things Hawaii.

  • The girl at 0:29... gorgeous! Wow. I wish women still had that classic beauty.

  • @NetRighter They Do. Here in Auckland 1010. Ahh/ I had the Privilidge off Spanking Sonia who is Part French and Polynesian. She looks exactly like that britcher- buster who turns too the camera on Hawai five O. Ahh/ i had too wear ten under pants too control myself when doing the Chore.- sic.

  • @NetRighter it wouldnt be classic if they did

  • @NetRighter So true my man, so true. You hit it on the head "classic beauty".

  • @NetRighter

:D I agree, especially because I am 37 and as I little kid my very first crush was on that very same girl... second crush was on Linda Carter... I have always had my heart set on brunettes :)

  • Comment removed

  • @NetRighter

All you get is clueless whores that get their advice from tv and magazines nowadays.

  • @NetRighter I have to agree that girl was fine

  • @NetRighter i know, it's so weird that girl from that era have a very different beauty, you dont see those girls today.

  • @TheBrando382 The different beauty you seek was femininity. All the wimmin equality movements started in the 60's trashed all that.

  • @flyingscampi You are right about that.

I'm a woman and that feminism thing makes me ill.

  • @ilovebobgunton see, i am a proud feminist. i certainly don't want to rule over men, but i don't want to be ruled over either. i like being a woman, a mom..... but, if i work just as hard or harder and just as long, i deserve the same rights and pay. i should be able to vote, open a charge account in my own name, i should not be my husband's property. some people who have embraced feminism have gone crazy, i'll admit that. but, we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

  • @tranurse I'm not against equality, I'm just mourning the loss of femininity that came with it.

  • @NetRighter The classic beauty is still around, except we are in our 50 and 60s now. Even I have noticed women today just can't compare to women from back then. Even the majority of Hollywood women are all cut from the same mold. But men were also beautiful. Thanks for the compliment though.

  • What??? Zulu as Kono? Kam Fong as Chin Ho?? Are you serious? Why bother? What's the difference?

Why not just use their real names?

  • @expertinmovies Better Still . Have Jack Lord Calling them his Gook;s, Right through the Television Series, Thet Ought too make All the Do gooders Remember this Great Proggrame

  • @MrSeanodwyer140 I'd like to respond, but unfortunately your garbled syntax makes that impossible.

  • awesome

  • AWESOME!

  • How could anyone dislike this!!!!!

  • @tasiasolon I know! this is best song ever!

  • MrSeanodwyer, do you remember this quote? "If you can't have the one you want, love the one your with". I apply that to myself as well. When traffic gets snarled, or I can't seem to rid my polyester skin tight work pants of dingleberries from the dryer, I come home, pop one of my favorite Stanley Kubrick dvd movies, and fall asleep with an open bag of potato chips...tyvm for your comment.

  • search for "Cancun 5 0 en penales"

  • My dad was stationed in Hawaii back in the late 1960s, they were filming that show when my parents lived there and I was born there at the time (1969) as well.

  • Great show, the remake does'nt hold a candle to the original. Awesome score, great cast.

  • Was that a statue of Pele near the beginning of the show

  • @Wellch According to an earlier post, it's Lady Columbia.

  • "i kinda wished that was the American National Anthem " US President in movie "The Dish " moon landing Parkes via Tid Bin Billa ex Dapto races? see it?

  • That shit was hard as fuck the way he turned around like that!!!!! :)

  • what happened to the part where buck em Danno was yelling through a spiders web?

  • I say it's still cool!

  • lulz

  • I think of Deadpool when I hear this. I dunno why.

  • Looking back at the old theme the only thing hey kept was the hula girl dancing

  • A WICKED OLD SCHOOLL TUNE.

  • i was no more then 15 months old in 68 when this premiered as a movie but was 7 and was 11 when it when off.

  • How about: "ZULU as KONO". Couldn't they have just called him ZULU? Does it make a difference? Maybe even funnier is: "KAM FONG as "CHIN HO". I don't think the show would've tanked if they called them: ZULU & KAM FONG. "HI, I'M CHIN HO, THIS IS KONO" or "HI, I'M KAM FONG, THIS IS ZULU". You be the judge.
