  • Does anyone know if there is a D50 environment????

  • the idisk thing didnt work. where else can i download the multi intrument? the other websites you listed were weird

  • Great set of tutorials. I'm a new Logic user and these tutorials cleared up. One question : I have the environments for the JV-1010, Orchestral and Vintage Synths cards. How do I access them? I'm having trouble getting them (the expansion cards) to receive the proper bank messages. Thanks.

  • I have a mpk25, is there anyone who can tell me how to setup the environment?

  • SEI IL MIGLIORE! sto imparando a usare logic grazie a te. Se divento una star me lo ricorderò =)

You're the best! thanks to you i'm learning to use logic. If i become a star i won't forget it! LOL

  • Hello, If you could help me, I just downloaded Virus environment. But I am having a version issue. I am getting the following error “The format of this file is not compatible with this Logic Pro version. Please load first into Logic Pro version 7.2.1 or earlier to convert the project” Could you help me with getting this file converted ? Thanks in advance

  • Thank you just downloaded Logic environments.

  • Hey why do you choose to add AUX tracks for playback of the midi instrument instead of adding stereo audio tracks? Especially considering one would probably be recording the output of the sound box at some point, or at least bouncing. I know you have a reason that's better then mine, just wondering what it is.

Very fine information in this and your other videos, you are doing the world a good thing with your time and knowledge, seriously, the best up here, thanks much.

  • Hey Ninja,,i have a major problem with external midi,,should the multi as a whole be selected to 1-port- 2 all channels?..im having a night mare sorting out a supernova 11 and a jv1080..could you do a vid of these if possible?..Tnx

  • Girls are awesome. You should really give them a try.

  • My problem is this:

I'm using a Roland GR-33 guitar synth that I'm controlling with a midi keyboard. The midi keyboard goes out to the in of the GR-33 and out of the gr-33 to the in of a presonus firestudio mobile (midi and audio IN). The problem I'm having is that Logic records the midi data that I play, but when I hit play, it doesn't play back the Gr-33 sounds. How do I get it to play back the gr-33 sounds?

  • Great tips on the 3 videos of External midi.. Now I have a question.. I have a Axiom Pro connected to my mac via usb and a motif es rack. How do I get the midi signal from the motif into my projectmix and out to my spakers? I tried using midi cables and its not happening for me.

  • Great tips on the 3 videos of External midi.. Now I have a question.. I have a Axiom Pro connected to my mac via usb and a motif es rack. How do I get the midi signal from the motif into my projectmix and out to my spakers? I tried using midi cables and its not happening for me.

  • Thank you so much! it's a wonderful tutorial It finally solved my problems

  • so you never actually said... do we need to use both the midi in and out functions on our roland/korg/yamaha/whatever to get the sounds into logic or can we just do it with one midi cable going from the output of the keyboard to the input of the interface?

  • gahhh, I have a Korg microsampler and I seem to get stuck every corner I turn! I think I might be doing one of the very first things wrong and thats why its not working I get the option of Microsampler 'sound', Microsampler 'out' and my soundcards midi out as well, any light anyone could shed on this is worthy of my highest respect! Cheers

  • I use an E-Mu proteus pk-6 which has 16 channels. I have followed all of the steps and rechecked them thoroughly. When I use two channels in logic and change the sound banks on a the second channel, it also changes the sound in the first channel. It doesn't change the program channel, just the sound. Not sure what it could be.

  • you are a genius, mate...

  • No Templates for Korg Trinity Plus :-(

  • thx great video . do u no where i can get emu proteus2000 environment thx:0)

  • Hey, this is probably a pretty random question, but I have a yamaha CLP-240 (more of an upright piano replacement than a real midi keyboard). And I really like its native piano sound. Are the steps you're taking here equal to the idea of just directly feeding the output of of the keyboard to an audio in? (just minus the actual midi information)

  • Thanks for the great video.. I followed all your steps and everything is working out good. I can hear my sounds and all that good stuff.... But my problem is whenever I record lets say my KICK DRUM for my MIDI 1 and than record it down to an audio, the very first kick on the down beat is chopped in half. So when that happens it plays half of the kick at the beginning than its fine for the next 3 bars. Its frustrating....

  • hey logicninja thnx for this video

thn a lot.do have any envoirment for KAWAI K11

    Bless Big Deal

  • Hi David, I have 9.1.1 with an Mbox, a Midi express 128, Fatar Keys and a Kurzweil K2600R. I can't get the K2600R to be recognized. I tried it with AMS and The environment. I had it working at one point in 8.0 but Logic would change the patch numbers after I would sequence with the K2600R. I've tried various things like Local Control on or off. Drivers are good. Test set-up in AMS gives a blink blink sound for the Keys but no K2600R sounds. Any suggestions.

    TC

  • @TC94086 I can get software instrument sounds from the sequencer on my Mac system output and I can get K2600R sounds from the sequencer by plugging in to the M Box or using a Mackie Mixer or just going to headphones on the K2600R.

How do I get the external Midi K2600R to be heard thru the system output along with the software instruments.

There seems to be separate connection in environment and I am not getting control in Logic with any stability.

  • Brilliant videos mate, they've helped me a great deal. One question though, you gave a link in this video to your iDisk public folder to download environment patch lists for popular synths. Have you removed these now as there's nothing showing in your public folder? I'm looking for patch lists for the yamaha motif xs, roland fantom g and the korg m3. Could you please advise where I could download these from? Many thanks, Dave

  • Hello sflogicninja, thank you for the video!!!

I have one quick question, I'm trying to use/hear my MicroKorg sounds within Logic 9 (like in your video)...I can't seem to do it (it reads the midi but i cant run a line in chord to hear sound come out). Some Korg forums say i need to buy a M-audio Fast Track Pro external sound card...does this sound accurate?

I'm reluctant to spend $160 on something I might not need, thank you in advance!

  • thanks for the tutorials SFLogicNinja! any idea where i can find an environment for a Roland XP-60?

  • i'm a little late on this but when i go to the idisk share i can't locate the text file for the nord names. is it no longer available or am i missing it?

  • dave please help me im tryin to connect my ms 2000 b with my logic 9 have a real hard time doing that cant get the channels to work

  • Dude thanx you r a life saver wit this vid. i'm new to using the racks, but like you said the synths are amazing!!!!! Awesome Vid!!!!!

  • Hey...great tutorials. I just can´t find the Logic environments you talk about...hm, have they been removed?

  • Great video's man, helped me get threw alot...However i still tryin to use my microsampler in logic express 9. I know how to save samples and recorded patterns and import them, but it would be loads easier to play it straight into logic. Im not using the acutally midi ports im using the usb instead, is that my problem? It reads the controles and everything... the sounds aren't coming threw

  • Comment removed

  • i cant find that logic enviroment folder i mean i can but there is nothing in it....i fuck your in your ass man..russian bjaruski

  • These tutorials are amazing, THANKS so much...BUT the environments are no longer in the idisk folder...any idea where I'd find environments for the Korg MS2000 & the Alesis Andromeda? I tried LogicUserGroup & SonikMatter with no luck...?

  • this time i am not completely satisfied since i cannot open the object editor no more than 5 seconds.

i ve realised there is a BUG!

  • yes we need one for the triton extreme please help

  • I can't find the templates, can you help me? I need one for the Triton.

  • Does anyone know a software which can retrieve the patchnames from my Synth and create a text file from them? SoundDiver was able to do it, but apple pulled the plug on this software. I made my own soundset on the virus, so the templates won't show the right names.

    thanks

  • You can run Sounddiver on a G4 running OS 10.4 or 10.3.

Even an early G4 laptop will run Sounddiver. (I keep one around just for that!). Some history: Opcode Vision Galaxy (ran on Mac os 8.6!) did exactly what you are asking about, automatically.

  • thanks for the suggestion.

Having to run two computers is exactly what I am trying to avoid.

Since apple own the SD-code to retrieve patches and names from hardware devices, they should at least implement it in a new version of logic. But they dont seem to be bothered.

Altogether the use of hardware in logic is not too great, as compared for example to cubase, which is more straightforward in assigning instruments, patchnames, on-screen GUIs and bouncing of individual AUX- and bus- channels.

  • Your right - Apple should release some patch-name retrieval utility. They own Sound Diver, which does exactly that. Their marketing strategy is either aimed to "encourage" people to use software instruments, (which benefits their bottom line) by not fully supporting external hardware, or they are waiting to include it in an upgrade. (hopefully the latter)

BTW - I've found that SD runs just fine on Tiger (G4 Mac) as well!

  • Thanks a lot! Finally got my microkorg hooked up. Does unfortunately only support one assignable channel in a projec (please correct me if i am wrong). But back to the video, you helped me a lot! Will subscribe to your stuff! Btw loved the tree icon mini tutorial ;) Thanx!

  • i went to your idisk and i didnt see the environments do you have a link or something you can send me for those i really need them... keep up the good work... you have helped alot of people man... i will be checking for a answer

  • Whoah!!! I figured out how to play midi sequences through the new digital Hammond B3 organ with a real leslie. I initially recorded it using NI B4 with a simulated leslie. When I play it back, logic controls the drawbar presets, the leslie, the volume pedal and everything else on the B3. The results are amazing! Thanks alot!!!!

  • great stuff thanks! but i'm missing something here. i setup my roland keyboard as midi to use the sounds from the keyboard and i open the aux track but there's still no sound looping back into the software. the sound still only comes off my keyboard. why's that???

  • Excellent instructional videos mate...cheers:)

  • David, I don't get it done!

Tried to add my microKORG XL in Logic Pro 9.0.1 but it doesn't work when I follow your steps. When adding de External MIDI to the mixer, I select "Stereo" plus "Input 1 - 2" 2 times because I'm using a MacBook. It appears in my mixer as "Input 1 -2" & "Stereo Out" instead of 2 times "Input 1 -2 as I see in your clip.

Any idea what is going wrong?

I use the environment which appears automatically in my library when adding the External MIDI.

    Thanx a lot! ... ;-)

  • I need a environment template for Motif XS8

  • david, how do i program my play button/pause/record buttons as well as my faders

  • Great videos! I tried to access the environments folder in your iDisk, but could not find the folder. Do you plan on reposting the folder, or is there another way to get to the environments? Thanks!

  • hey i tried opening your logic environments and the folder wasn't up? im using a microkorg and if u could just give me the link to the environment for that id appreciate it. Thanks!

  • i hate to say it but i think this would be better if you demonstrated with like an actual rack or synth

  • Hey David, do you still have these Environments? I have looked in your public folder but can't seem to find them. Greatly appreciated! Thanks

  • Many Thanks!!

  • awesome, thanks!! your tutorials are really good and detailed, and the idisk is an excellent idea. Keep up the great work!!!

  • I'm a LogicNinja noob and have been catching up from the beginning. Sharinfg yoru idisk with us is so awesome, I just had to say THANK YOU! You represent what makes the internet age so amazing

  • You are the man!!! You just sold me on making the jump. No one else was able or willing to share what you have. I wish you all the best!

    Thanks,

  • I'm looking for the Fantom G, I didn't see it in there.

  • Sorry David, I found them. Thanks a bunch for the environments and the great tutorials.

  • This is so cool,

The logic enviornment folder is not in the public folder!

do you have one for the E-Mu Mo Phatt.

U r great. Keep it up!

  • I just tried with no luck as well. Any chance you could re-up them? Or point me in the right direction where you found most of them?

  • Amazing!

I'm using Logic Express 7 and I'm getting stuck right at the end trying to add a stereo aux to the mixer so I can hear the synth. Can anyone help me?

  • Thanks a lot! I need environment for motif es and I found your logic environment file empty in the iDisc. Could you advise?

    Thanks

  • Huge thank you for taking the time to create these tutorials and for making the Multi-Sets available. Incredibly helpful.

U too ill!!! Word life. I almost never comment on vids, but the way u've helped me out is crazy!

    Thnx a million b!

    Napalm

  • Thanks so much for those Multi Inrtsrument Patch Names!

  • dave you are a logic god

  • It seems your logic evironment directory is empty? Or am I doing something wrong here?

  • Never mind, found it already. Thanks again! Finally managed to setup different tracks to play at once on my midipiano.

  • hi! I'm new to logic and every thing seems strange. Since i've been watching your video, I'm quite confident producing with logic now... but the problem i'm having is connecting logic with my sp606. I have done everything highlighted in your videos but i just dont seem to hear the sounds come out from logic. I dont know what the problem is but can u please help? Its really holding my me down. Also where do u fink i can find the environment for yahama 9000pro? thanks? Hope to hear from u soon.

  • Hi!! your videos are really cool!! The way you explain MIDI setup in Logis makes it very easy for people like us. Can you please post more videos on midi channel change in Logic and environment window.

  • SF Logic Ninja, thanks for the Logic environment download. Can you please advise , How can I get these environments to work with Logic 8 ? Every time I try to use your environments download I keep getting a message stating that need to use Logic 7.2 to open these files... Can you please advise ? THX

  • Hey David-- Do you know if there were any Korg EA-1 Logic Environments made up? I've desperately searched for them online, to no avail.

Maybe you might know where I should look?

Many thanks for your invaluable help!

  • Do you have to have the physical instrument to use the various multi sets or do the multi sets act as virtual instruments that allow you to play their sound from a midi source like a oxygen 8 keyboard? Thanks for the great videos sorry for the rookie question.

  • where can i get a free copy of soundiver for osx?

  • Hi, I previously asked about setting up a KP3 with logic and Im afraid to say, Im just totally stuck, I know im asking alot but is it possible for you to send me a step by step instruction for setting it up or maybe even a video? I know quite a few people who have KP3's and it seems everyone is having a hell of a time with the KP3 using it as an external midi. Thanks.

    -Deems

  • wow. thank you.

  • Your lessons are very helpful. I tried downloading the Logic enviroments from iDisk but they weren't there?

  • hey, can u help with synchronizing Nord Lead arp with Logic??

i bet you know how to do this :)

  • Thx alot, I'm a new bie and I had hard time in monitoring the MIDI while I'm playing on the keyboard through logic. You really have done great work in demonstration..

  • oh by the way thanks for the gift in your public folder! way to go bro!

  • whats up my ninja! got a ? for ya. does logic remember your midi instrument on a track when you save the session and reopen later? that of course coming from an external midi instrument such as my motif xs 6. if so how do i get it to call up those instruments without me having to search them out each time i open my session?

  • Great tips as always! I do have one small question though; I have written all of my own patches on my hardware synths and named them accordingly, these are old synths, but respond to system exclusive. Is there a way I can import the patch names into Logic from those synths via sysex?

  • Unfortunately, you're going to have to try an give Sounddiver 3.0 a try. It's legacy software that will allow you to see the patch names, copy them to clipboard with command-c, then paste them into the multi instruments.

I think you can still access the download through Apple, Maybe google it and see what happens.

    *bows*

  • Hi, I only have Logic Studio, as I'm a newcomer to the Logic world, and Soundiver doesn't work without an XS key, you don't get given an XS key in the box with Logic Studio, so unless I back-peddle to an earlier version (which probably won't run on Intel/Leopard) I'm snookered.

I have managed to start writing sys-ex maps for the paramaters of my synths though, but nothng that I can import names from the synths.

Thanks again for a great video!

    Rich

  • i tried getting the gift of your logic environment from your idisk public folder. but nothing is there. can you please make it available again? i am having the worst time ever . and you have the answer! i would appreciate it if you could. thanks bro!

  • What's is the name of tha box that you talked about.....I done everything that you shown on this video but no SOUND....I'm Running Logic pro 8 on a Mac mini Duo Core intel..Can you help me?

  • one ? whats the difference between doing this in the environment and doing it in the apple audi/midi setup. i did the audio/midi setup before i saw this video, should i still do it in the environment? thanxxxxx.

  • The Audio/MIDI setup was not properly integrated into Logic until version 8.0.1, so now things have changed. You will still need to set up the patch names by hand, however. This is where the environments I uploaded help out. AMS hasn't yet integrated the names in with the devices, sadly. Hopefully they'll fix that. Great question! *bows*

  • great

  • when you put stuff in the environment, do you have to save it to a template for it to save? thanx ...these vids are great.

  • yep! SAVE AS TEMPLATE!

  • not sure if its my computer, but during the download i get the message "there is a problem with the file and it cannot be copied."

the file that is causing the problem is in the "ex folder" I think the file is "ex-55rex.lso"

  • Thanks for giving us quality instruction on material thats really useful! As you can see by your numbers, there are many of us out there who appreciate it!

  • Weird. I haven't noticed that before. If you need that file, message m Tuesday, and I'll get it to ya.

  • Dave, your videos must be the best free Logic tutorials on the entire internet. Thank you so much, I greatly enjoy them. Even if I'm not completely new to Logic, I still like to watch how you explain things. And hey, one of the multi-instrument environments you offer on your iDisk was once created by me, back in 2003! :) Those were the days ... Take care!

  • Hey man, 2003 wasn't THAT long ago!....was it?

Thanks for making an environment. Folks like you are REALLY hard to come by!

  • Thx SO much for the videos, I'm LOVING them. But...when I copied your Environments to my desktop and opened the file there was nothing there in the form of a Logic song (the icon did not look like it did in your video) and I could not drag anything into the Environment. I'm using Logic 7 and Tiger 10.4 (I think), btw. What's the deal...no one else seems to have had this problem. Am I an idiot???

  • No, you aren't an idot! Pshaw!

Try opening the file, then hitting command->8. Once you've done that, hold the layer button down, and you should see the manufacturer list. Make sure to try the 'Various Multi-sets' first. *bows*

  • thanks for the files

  • As an aside, a simple step that saves a lot of time (that I kept missing!) for adding multi-timbral synths such as the Access Virus TI - when creating the instrument click the 'multi timbral' box and Logic will automatically set up 16 tracks in the arrange window with MIDI channels assigned, and also 16 channels in the environment window.

  • That is an AWESOME tip, sir. Where exactly is this? In the environment? arrange?

  • It's so easy and stares you in the face that it makes you curse when you stumble across it after many hours of routing! When adding a new track via the '+' sign or 'Track'>'New', when you select New Software Instrument, the simple yet massively helpful 'multi-timbral' box pops up next to the number of tracks dialogue box. Click and you're laughing.

  • That's cool... it's on my upgraded version.

need to update the tower, but PT compatibility issues and tech guys screaming at me keep me from plunging ahead...

  • Oh, to have the problem of PT compatibility issues....!

Thanks again mate, half an hour well spent this end, real different to the Cubase approach.

  • Dave - thanks for that - really user friendly and the instrument files are really useful. Incidentally if you figure out what causes your channel to flash incessantly drop me a line; I have the same happen from time to time and can't work out what it is.

  • Sorry, 500 characters or less to post comments!

Superb job on all the videos. I am learning a great deal from you! THANK YOU!

  • Thanks for the Huge Multi-Instrument File. I was super excited to see the Roland JV-1010.iso file included. The problem is, When I open that file, it says that it is not compatible with Logic 8. It needs an earlier version. Is there any way of getting that file to work with Logic 8?.

  • Crap. Looks like it needs Logic 7 to open.

Use the 'Various Multi Sets' for now. If you go to the layers tab, you'll find the Roland JV series is in that layer. The 1010 is in there. Have fun!

  • Ahhhh ... Found it. It works perfectly. Heck, I saw some great video on how to get it done!

    You are the BOMB!

    Thanks fr the quick reply!!

  • thanks ninja, I didn't know how to add instruments so I was just using general midi the whole time :D.

  • my goodness...

how amazing is that... thanks man!

  • Ninja thanks so much That was RAD!!!
