  • Perlman played it better...

  • You know its him when you hear the pitz part xD

  • didn't he appear in the movie 'together'?

  • Bravo!

  • my orchestra is playing with him very soon :) he's dang awesome

  • u from OYO?

  • haha yea...

  • haha im the other justin from 2nd violins

  • LOL im justin too...but 2nd chair cello

  • oh there's 3 justins? lol didnt know that

  • Hi Justin & Justin. :)

    (I'm in OYO too--a violist)

  • sean4730 well, i wouldn't say they're terrible, but compared to the past concertos, for me i rather the past, and they uniqueness to the modern type of concertos, you may think different, heaps of ppl like the modern and heaps like past, although, no offence, but this particular violin concerto = the best of all time

  • why dont people make new classical music, instead of always playing ones from the past?

  • Much easier to play than to create new music. Newage concertos are terrible.

  • the composers of past must have been tremendous heavenly geniuses, even without all the technology that we have at our disposal today....

  • what a ridiculous comment... all new age concertos are terrible???

  • @sean4730 Yep. I played one that was pretty poorly composed. Impossible to play even among our best musicians, and even when it was played, it sounded like a vomit of notes thrown on staff paper. I literally heard and played Chaos.

  • true... it seems reasonable to conclude after playing one that is poorly composed that "all new age concertos are terrible."

  • i dont know if it is the recording or the player or the violin but it does sound a bit scratchier then most other recordings ive heard

  • It sounds really good!

  • ha un suono che dire bello è poco... vederlo pero non altrettanto, ma la bellezza qui è solo un altra! bellissimo

  • Truffle hunting city! No tastes, no intonation, and after having listened to him savage his part in Beethoven Triple Concerto, which Trey Lee was actually trying to play at times (cellist). I suppose it is Long Yu also conducting this as well.

Did anyone get a load of the pained expression Trey Lee gave I think perhaps both Li Chuanyun and Long Yu halfway through the solo exposition of the Beethoven? Now, that was priceless.

  • I know people think this rendition is really unconventional, (he rushes some parts, slows down here and there, accents notes at random, enforcing his own interpretation) but what people need to understand is that's not because Mr. Li is a incompetent violinist, its because, simply put, Mr. Li is a badass.

-Btw which section in particular were there intonation mistakes?

  • u chach

  • Nice!

  • u got the rest of the piece?

  • lol sry, no. this was from the soundtrack of the movie "Together"

  • This guy is my hero...but seriously...why did he completely mess up those notes he played at 00:28 - 00:34??

  • i think it's the video's quality. although you can tell he wanted those notes to be a bit messy, the sound quality of it here amplified that a lot. i'm sure if you listened to the cd on your computer it would sound a lot better.

  • I love Bell's interpretation a lot.

  • I like Perlman's and Oistrakh's interpretations, as well as this one

  • for this piece, i like Kogan.

  • I agree with everything you wrote here, except the last comment. I think Li has captured the passion and the sound coloration as well if not better than Heifetz, especially considering the age difference between both great Artists.

  • fyi!!!dgproduckshon!!mr li is much better than any crazy violinists i have ever seen here in you tube....please keep all your hatred for him inside you...he does not suck!

  • If he sucks, can you please explain why you're not touring the world - at 14 years old? Just because you don't like his interpretations, IT DOES NOT mean that he sucks. Keep your prejudices to yourself. Don't use youtube to vent your frustration. Be cool...

    ^_^

  • master!

  • @unitednerdsbeproud Because he is still studying and perfecting his art.

  • @elzbieta52 Violin playing can't be perfected... Perfection doesn't exist. And how is that reason to say he sucks? Even the greats are still learning...

  • @unitednerdsbeproud Each to his own.

  • I would say that reflects his personality- extreme. The reason he's touring at 14 is because that's what sells.

In any genre of music, especially classical and jazz where every listener knows the great interpretations, all you can do as a performer is tell the world how you feel. Tell them by playing the things you feel.

I sense that Chuanyun Li feels... pretty good. :)

  • ok, when you are world famous and have a name, go ahead and say that, butw atm you are just a nobody who thinks he knows something about music,

  • @xiaoxiayu

remember the name! DZ. you'll hear about me...

  • Wonderful playing, he understands the piece like Oistrakh does. His opening phrases are not my favorite interpretation but he does like to put his mark on his pieces.

The danger with these showy pieces is to over ornamentate and over play which tends to clutter - I always worry Li will do this, but not here, he lets the music speak for itself.

  • well maybe cus he is only 14 years old and as i sad his playing yet become his profession although he already tours around the world... mr li sucks!

  • You're an idiot.

  • thank you for the honesty

  • fantastic!

  • If it continues like this, Chineses won't only invade the world commercially, they will invade the world of the music as well.... (good playing!)

  • Chinese people can't invade the world. They are from the world. You can't invade somewhere you're from.

  • Don't play with my words, you know what I mean...

  • And logic strikes again! Hah!

    Seriously, get a job. ;-)

  • suffering from dilirium?

  • Excellent playing. I am so proud of the younger generation from China who are showing the world what talents there are in China. Bravo and congratulations for all of your achievements in mastering this difficult instrument.

  • bravo!!
