Yeah, it probably hurt alright, but the last thing you want to do as an umpire is react to getting hit if you can help it. It not only draws attention to yourself but shows weakness, which makes a Manager more likely to come out on you. It's these little things that convey your authority to the participants. He did a great job of acting like nothing even happened, and probably the only person who even noticed was the douche bag who put this on you tube.

Lot of people in the stands, LOL. Once at my game the pitcher threw one in the dirt it got the ump in the ankle they had to stop the game for 20 minutes, the ump couldn't walk. Then the next 3 pitched were in the corners, and called balls. LOL

Not if you are wearing a quality cup correctly. It saved me twice this season, I had to keep from laughing both times and they kept asking, "Blue, are you allright?" Before this year, it was five or six years ago when it last happened.
