hey man, great playing just quick few noters

clarity just crisp it uo slightly, but good melody on ur solo however in a jazz band its good just to repeat some of your own ideas during the solo.

when my camera works ill try and upload some jazz videos and comment on how to improve and improvisation which you already have the notes and ideas. As i have said good solo just need practise :)

hey! i'm a complete newbie to trumpets, i'm planning to learn when i save up enough to get one (hopfully soon) is that a mute in the end that makes it sound so jazzy? i thought mutes were supposed to stop noise? not mak it sound so awesome? :L

way to keep it simple and not over doing it. thats a lot of issues some musicians have. they try to dump everything they have into one solo....start a foundation and build on it...playing music is just like telling a story...im a trumpet player myself and i know a good player when I hear one...keep it up man

I also play trumpet, and am 15 and working towards grade 6. I have just taken over from one of the best players i have ever heard in lead trumpet (he left school) and i don't think i am good enough for the part. That is lead trumpet in wind band and jazz band. Can you give me some advice to make me a better player and be able to take over from him? Thanks,

@frankiearnold1997 Hey - its easy to make it difficult for yourself...try playing the same song in all 12 keys...I feel like the trick is to find songs that are fun to play. If you think you know an 'easy' song, listen to some of the older guys play that same song and you'll eventually realize that the subtle things they do really make it sound good. Try to pick up on these subtleties. I would also recommend getting some Jamey Aebersold books/cds to practice your improvisation. Best of luck!

I like that you play with a "relaxed" style in your phrasing.....it helps the listener to enjoy you in an "unhurried" manner..... very nice

technically you're quite good, but do you ever listen to THE MUSIC? soloing over a few chords, is more than showing what you can do!!! play WITH the music, not through it

guys. your trumpet doesn't play for you nor can you take any mouthpiece someone else can play on well. you need your own type mouthpiece and trumpet and a lot of discipline when you practice. so get a trumpet you find good for yourself.

there's no great secret in playing the trumpet. it's hard work and there are so many bad players out there. really enough. anyway, great video!

Hi. My father was an excellent trumpeter and well known in our rural area of Northern Victoria (Australia) for 50 years. He stopped playing rougly 20 years ago. Sadly he was never recorded. He passed away last Monday at a week under 95 years old. In arranging a celebration of his life, I found you on YouTube. Good array of licks and ideas ... effortless melding with these swing rhythmns.  I've heard your tone with no mute - great - and tone is tone even with a harmon. Love the strads too got a 37 and a 197 (the better of the two IMHO). Very melodic use of scales and that's what makes you outstanding - keep it up!

this guy is the best trumpet player I've heard in a while. His ideas are so deep and impactful. I'm trying to develop my own sound, but it's tough with cats out ther like this. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth pursuing the dream. Y'all could learn something.

Hey - thanks! I play a Bach Stradivarius, which is the standard 'pretty good' professional model.  I like it quite a bit and recommend it if you can get one. I would practice up a bit on a cheaper model if you're just starting then play a bunch of different horns and see which gives you the best tone. Good luck!

it's called a mute, and it gives the trumpet that muted, wailing noise that sounds so amazing. it keeps the sound crisper.

you using band in a box by any chance? But yeah this was good, love the harmon mute. And since it was consistant imma assume u like that tone, its got a cool dirty jazz feel too it. Keep it up... its shit like this that makes me regret not buying a trumpet after highschool... i wasnt as good as u but i think give me a year and i'd be able to not look dumb beside u lol.
