Problem is not tax cuts, it's spending billions in Iraq, giving billions to Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, going into debt with every country with have free trade with, illegal immigrants who transfer/wire billions of U.S. dollars out of America each year to Latin America. That's why we're in debt.
The problem I see is that many on line angry conservatives do not bother to get any real information nor do they care for critical analysis. I have a dgree in engineering and a PhD in Molecar biology from two ivy league colleges. So I guess that makes me an elitist, because I spent 20 years getting educated. The modern conservative movement is anti-intellectual. They would rather promote creationism, trickle down economics, and other such pseudo science.
Government does not create wealth, it provides the infrastructure for individuals to create wealth. This costs money. Consider taxes our dues to live in this great country. Who would build roads, bridges, airports? Who insures our capital markets are fair? Who protects intellectual property? Who provides a legal framework to protect property and persons? Conservatives rail against the government,until they need it! Just consider the Bear Stearns bailout.
The military and interstate commerce, after that, the federal government is pretty much supposed to stay out of our lives and our pockets. The State government is where the majority of the power is supposed to reside, where the PEOPLE have more of a say as to what happens.
We don't rail against the government. We just want it to provide what the Constitution says it should and stay out of everything else. We want activist judges to stop writing law from the bench. In my opinion, the recent Wall Street bailout was a bunch of crap, just like the pending bailout of the schlubs who borrowed from those sub-prime lenders. The economy would have rectified that situation itself.
If tax cuts increased revenue so dramatically, why do we have a 9 trillion dollar national debt? This is real money and not liberal conspiracy. How do you propose to pay this down? Do you know what your share is? Do you know what your kids share is? The interest alone is one of the largest items inteh budget. Thank you Reagan, thank you Bush I and II.

I do think government provides essential services and we should pay for that, not borrow money for tax cuts especially in time of war. BTW- If you look at the numbers, under Bush II, the federal budget grew on average 7-8% per year, not even including Iraq, whis is off budget. This with Republicans in control. During 8 years of Clinton, fedral budgets grew 2.5% per year.
This goes back to my original point. If you are truly conservative, and I know and respect many, then you should be outraged at what has been going on during Bush II. The single biggest increase in government spending, entire new departements, i.e. homeland security. What is the role of the Defense department if not to defend us? Couple that to a shift in the tax burden from the wealthy to the middle class. Once you get past the labels of socialist or liberal, you can begin to see.
So many liberals ignore the fact that government revenues expanded far beyond expectations after the tax cuts. More money in the economy meant more money for job creation, hence more tax payers. It worked for Bush, Reagan and JFK (yes, even he saw the benefit of tax cuts to stimulate the economy).
Taxes hold America together. If we relied completely on the economy, we would have no investment in things we need like social service and education when the economy dips/crashes. Tell me those services aren't important and I can say conservatives are thinking with their butts.
You can't make tax cuts and then pour all the money you would have if you hadn't gotten rid of it into something the majority of your people don't support. It is absurd to even consider this.

People who end up mired in the mess of "social programs" spend their lives depending on government handouts. The idea of providing for themsleves becomes completely alien. When the money stays in the economy, these poor have the opportunity to get jobs and provide for themselves.
Just try to imagine someone who has less opportunity that you. For example: an elderly woman with no known relatives/none willing to take her into their care. So do you blame her for not having ideal children, being old, depending on our tax money to give her social security and some extra years on her life? Taxes aren't a scheme - they are a support system for people who cannot provide for themselves. Not people who don't WANT to take care of themselves & would rather depend on the government.

Every, and I mean every current retiree depending on social insecurity would be a millionaire if all of the money they "contributed" had instead been invested in the Dow Jones. Government revenues increased beyond projections after the tax cuts,, even beyond those expected under the Clinton numbers. It is a matter of record. Government spending, including the biggest entitlement in history, the Medicare drug program, is the reason for the deficit. The country's been in debt since FDR.

It was all fuzzy math. Tax revenues increased after the tax cuts because by putting the money in the economy, it created demand for goods & services and companies, especially small businesses, could afford to expand. This expansion created jobs in the private sector and decreased government dependence.

The deficit we are in was caused by "liberal" spending by the current administration, one of the things I don't agree with. However the math about tax revenues is rock solid. Clinton's "surplus" was a projection that didn't take into account the economic slow down his tax policies caused. Remember the early 2001 recession?

I did not say government creates wealth. Your example is anecdotal. In 93 taxes were raised to balnce the budget and the economy expanded. In the 1950s economic expansion was consistently high despite maximum tax rates close to 90%. There is no statistical correlation if you examine all of the 20th century. BTW, the national debt increased from 1 trillion to over 4.5 trillion under Reagen. There are many reason fr economic growth over the long term. Tax cuts are not one of them.

Anthropogenic global warming is a myth. The science tells us the the earth has been much warmer in the past...so what makes anyone think it may not get warmer no matter what humans do?

No one deny's that there is a warming trend, only that CO2 is not the culprit. Were there some sort of cavemen with coal burning powerplants that caused "ice ages", or any of the other tremendeous fluxuations in the Earths temperatures in the past?
The amount of CO2 emitted by unnatural causes is so miniscule, so rediculously small of an amount, when compared to how much CO2 comes out of the oceans. It's a natural process. The sun has been currently "flaring" much more than in recorded past.

They make fun of John Kerry's military service and then they turn around and praise the service of John McCain and they continue to do it even though there most powerful people such as George Bush,Newt Gingrich, and Rush Limbaugh got out of going to Vietnam. I don't know about that. I'm generally liberal, but I think there are lots of things about which to poke fun -- just look at how the Democratic primary is turning into a circus! Clinton and Obama provide some great humor (I cringe at some of the things they say).

The problem I see is that many on line angry conservatives do not bother to get any real information nor do they care for critical analysis. I have a dgree in engineering and a PhD in Molecar biology from two ivy league colleges. So I guess that makes me an elitist, because I spent 20 years getting educated. The modern conservative movement is anti-intellectual. They would rather promote creationism, trickle down economics, and other such pseudo science.

Government does not create wealth, it provides the infrastructure for individuals to create wealth. This costs money. Consider taxes our dues to live in this great country. Who would build roads, bridges, airports? Who insures our capital markets are fair? Who protects intellectual property? Who provides a legal framework to protect property and persons? I do think government provides essential services and we should pay for that, not borrow money for tax cuts especially in time of war. BTW- If you look at the numbers, under Bush II, the federal budget grew on average 7-8% per year, not even including Iraq, whis is off budget. This with Republicans in control. During 8 years of Clinton, fedral budgets grew 2.5% per year.

This goes back to my original point. If you are truly conservative, and I know and respect many, then you should be outraged at what has been going on during Bush II. The single biggest increase in government spending, entire new departements, i.e. homeland security. What is the role of the Defense department if not to defend us? Couple that to a shift in the tax burden from the wealthy to the middle class. Once you get past the labels of socialist or liberal, you can begin to see.

Paving roads is a Constitutional power, (promote the general welfare and all that). Most of what our taxes go to is not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution.
Government revenues increased beyond projections after the tax cuts,, even beyond those expected under the Clinton numbers. It is a matter of record. Government spending, including the biggest entitlement in history, the Medicare drug program, is the reason for the deficit. The country's been in debt since FDR.

I don't expect you to understand. Liberals think that the economy is a zero-sum-game and that lowered taxes can't be replace. Clinton never balanced the budget and never had a surplus. It was all fuzzy math. Tax revenues increased after the tax cuts because by putting the money in the economy, it created demand for goods & services and companies, especially small businesses, could afford to expand. This expansion created jobs in the private sector and decreased government dependence.

The deficit we are in was caused by "liberal" spending by the current administration, one of the things I don't agree with. However the math about tax revenues is rock solid. I did not say government creates wealth. Your example is anecdotal. In 93 taxes were raised to balnce the budget and the economy expanded. In the 1950s economic expansion was consistently high despite maximum tax rates close to 90%. There is no statistical correlation if you examine all of the 20th century. BTW, the national debt increased from 1 trillion to over 4.5 trillion under Reagen. There are many reason fr economic growth over the long term. Tax cuts are not one of them.

No one deny's that there is a warming trend, only that CO2 is not the culprit. Were there some sort of cavemen with coal burning powerplants that caused "ice ages", or any of the other tremendeous fluxuations in the Earths temperatures in the past?
The amount of CO2 emitted by unnatural causes is so miniscule, so rediculously small of an amount, when compared to how much CO2 comes out of the oceans. It's a natural process. The sun has been currently "flaring" much more than in recorded past.

These conservatives are the biggest hypocrites that I have ever seen. They make fun of John Kerry's military service and then they turn around and praise the service of John McCain and they continue to do it even though there most powerful people such as George Bush,Newt Gingrich, and Rush Limbaugh got out of going to Vietnam. Also they criticize people who question the president about the war even though when Bill Clinton went in to Bosnia they complained all the time. It's despicable.

I don't know about that. I'm generally liberal, but I think there are lots of things about which to poke fun -- just look at how the Democratic primary is turning into a circus! Clinton and Obama provide some great humor (I cringe at some of the things they say).
This show, though,just doesn't find those great nuggets. It laughs more at the IDEA of being liberal than the stupid things liberals (like anyone) sometimes do.

On both sides of the ideological spectrum I've met people that are intelligent, well-informed, articulate, mature, and dedicated to the idea that we can make choices that improve this country and the world. I've met just the opposite on both sides as well.

Look, conservative comedy isn't bad, it can actually be funny. However, this lady just has no sense of comedic timing or delivery. Cocking your head to one side and raising your eyebrows after every punchline is just sad to watch.

If you don't make over $250k/yr you have not one reason to be a republican. None of the tax breaks benefit you. Come one think this one through, We were lied to about going to Iraq "WMD" when asked about Bin Laden who orchestrated the attacks on 9/11 why did we go to Iraq instead of Afghanistan??? When asked where Bin Laden was Bush responded, "I don't know I don't spend that much time on it". Cheney was asked what he thinks about 67% of americans against the war and he said, "So what". Thanks Tony, for the reality check. Also, I make way less than 250K and I have plenty of reasons to be a Republican. I don't want the country to resemble a Socialist government. I want to end quotas and encourage individual reponsibility. I want to insist that people obey our immigration laws instead of ignoring them then insisting I reward them for it. I cannot afford to pay more taxes to support the persons who want the oposite.
