loynie I don't disagree over the frustration caused of not seeing a final end to this dispute. Too many interests are being served as a result of this dispute and effectively innocent lives are shed. I take the view that countries like Iran use the Palestinian issue to further its ambitions. They are pawns in a deadly game and it has suited other countries to keep this conflict alive. One cannot disagree with you lavender200012 the fact that Fatah misused funds for years and indeed Arafat amassed vast fortunes at the expense of those he was supposed to have represented. But I have read a few articles, one of which was in a well known newspaper about a Hamas minister caught carrying into Gaza $20,000,000 in 2006 whilst MPs and civil servants and public bodies were being starved of funds.More recently Alayam newspaper reported on the intolerable conditions because of Hamas.

I am afraid lavender I have studied history. The events you refer to need to be qualified. The murders in Sabra and Shatilla was revenge by Christians, for the assasination of the Lebanese Phalangist leader Bashir Jemayel. Whilst some culpability for it lies with Israelis failing to prevent such a likely outcome, they were not perpetrators or planners. When the news about massacres occuring in Jenin broke, many were shocked, but it became clearer much later that no such massacre occured.

There are many accounts and it does seem that a serious tragedy may have been avoided. However, it has not been Israeli policy to have wanted the refugee outcome nor did it want war either in 1948.

lavender, Hamas was allowed to develop and was ironically, partly encouraged by Israel to develop so that there might have been a partner to make peace with. Arafat had been exiled in Tunis but feared his position was being usurped by the nascent organisation. The hope did not last and Arafat announced his willingness to recognise Israel and renounce parts of the Palestinian Covenant (which it did not do).

I am not denying facts. I happen to believe that it is possible to make peace, but some facts have to confronted. Israel is not innocent. There have been wrongs which justice demands that there be compensation. Sadly both Jew and Arab could have made the peace a long time ago but there are too many who do not want to see it work.
