  • United Rocks!!!

  • This commercial needs to be restored, faded color, splices....

  • I love United.

  • What's Nancy's last name, "Nice"?

  • "the largest airline in the free world." hm. does that mean russia, east germany, china and cuba have larger airlines?

  • @HeffernanProductions Exactly what it meant. At that time, Soviet Aeroflot was the largest airline in the world.

  • Yeah .. like we always board DC-10s at 3L LOL!

  • "Your welcome very much?"... I still love it! I wish it were still the friendly skies.

  • your FIRED crazy bitch

  • I wouldn't go as far as nationalizing the airlines. But how about partially subsidizing the major carriers so that they can at least be on level ground to compete with the regional and low cost carriers who are eating them alive.

  • United was way cooler when they used to hire schizophenics like Nancy.

  • @Lobo8310 And Flight Attendants actually took pride in their job and were nice to the customers. You never see that now a days. The US based airline flight attendants are rude and mean.

  • Is Nancy referring to penis when she says "your hot dog medium...watch the jokes"?

  • Continental's 80s commercials are better. Nancy.

  • It is CM that the mind becomes warm.

  • i get a boner every tme i fly. especially on KLM with their beautiful blonde stewardesses. OMG, just thinking about KLM made my meat hard.

  • Kjetzer this video you uploaded 5 years ago was an MPEG file from the Night of the AdEaters archive website which of course later the whole archive was taken down.

  • this scares me......

  • Yes, kiddies, this is the way it was, once upon a time...

  • Wore that uniform and felt her excitement! Those were wonderful days at UAL!

  • Good Lord! Look at the length of that collar!

  • I love this commercial very much. However I don't know what Nancy and her colleague are talking, what they are singing because I am Japanese.

    Please teach me!

  • Ughhh back when airplanes were more prone to crashing!!

  • @Shoregirl72 I know, wasnt it great! :)

Back then we actually had work to do. Now Cabin Crew can't even serve free drinks! What's the point in making them pay onboard? It just slows down the service! But atleast then we'll have a nice shouting at from the passengers and Cabin Services Director! Aviation went down the pan as soon as Ryanair, Southwest and easyJet started doing low fares!

I'd rather have a crash than running out of BLT sandwiches!

And they wonder why air rage is so high!

  • @ThomsonAirwaysStaff LOL ive always been a fearful flyer.. I have a love/hate relationship with it.

  • @Shoregirl72 Well, Cars crash a lot more than planes do! I love it when planes crash tho! Only down side is that people get hurt!

    its a shame, really :)

  • i did not get my p-nuts.

  • Flying USED to be this great. Now it's a nightmare.

  • @somewhatlongdong I agree and the service on board is just as horrible. Rude flight attendants and customer service all around.

  • Yaeah.... nowdays...several changes!

  • Whats the song

  • The friendly skies..if your lucky nowdays! haha

  • This commercial aired in May of 1982.

  • Your beef, medium...Your hot dog medium.....

Then Joe, the aircraft mechanic walks in ready to serve his medium, beefy hot dog.

Welcome to the mile high club, Nancy

  • Back when flying wasn't akin to getting a colonoscopy.

  • I want nancy to be my stewardess. She's sweet and pretty.

  • @imbluz Airline Flight Attendants should take a look at Nancy as they why a airline flight attendant should be.

  • This is a wonderful ad. ^_^ Nancy seems like a very real person I would trust.

  • I guess the better question would be can you imagine a passenger saying "thank you very much" for said single ice cube, making direct eye contact? The video says this is from 1982, but didn't UA change to navy blue uniforms in 1980 or 1981?

  • @astrojet707 Yes, they did. I believe the date on this clip is incorrect. I would place it more in the mid-70s, when the DC-10 (as pictured at the end) was still the darling of United's fleet.

  • @BettinaBalser Nah, early-mid 80s is about right for this, to be honest, the DC-10 was the pride and joy of the UAL fleet For a long time. Only after United bought Pan-Am's 747's and Trans-Pacific routes did that change to the 747

  • Maybe Nancy's attitude wouldn't have soured so much in the past 28 years if her passengers had continued to treat her with just a modicum of respect as people did in 1982. And seriously, how much can we respect YOU when you write "you're steak?" How does anyone who didn't graduate from third grade expect to be taken seriously?

  • Why don't the make commercials like this anymore?

  • They used to be such a well respected airline, now they are nothing but a piece of shit. Atleast the world still has real airlines like Singapore Airlines, thank god for SIA.

  • Can you honestly imagine a stewardess today coming to your seat and carefully putting one cube of ice in your drink using tongs?

  • I'm flying United on the 18th. Never had any problems with them before except this time they won't have an escort for me to help me through the airport because I have Asperger's Syndrome and can't navigate the airport independently yet (plus, i get really nervous around huge crowds)

  • Nancy still flies for UAL. Now she weighs 245, grey hair and has more chins than a Chinatown phonebook.

  • The free world?? Was this during the Cold War?

  • I miss these days.. :( Nothin like the ol DC-10..

  • I think Nancy is Great!!!!!!

  • Back in the day! Before it all went to hell!

  • Largest airline in the free world? What Aeroflot was bigger or something?

  • "the largest airline in the free world"... i love that part!

  • Only 30 pounds?

  • What's the difference between Nancy and a Flight Attendant? About 30 lbs!

  • Save the Tulip!

  • love the pro-us propaganda "Best Airline in the Free World"

  • these commercials show how far this airline has come and how well they have done over the past years

  • @edtheabraham You do mean how far they've fallen, and how terribly they've done don't you?

  • @tonybklyn the tulip is gone :(

  • What are the chances you think Nancy wanted $8 for a pillow and handkerchief blanket?

  • Remember when people didn't take thing for granted? I don't mean just service, I mean everything. If a person didn't get paid much, they still got paid enough to live in a house that had electricity, gas, and plumbing, and that was enough. Today, a person doesn't make enough to buy an HDTV, and he's unhappy? WHAT?!?!

  • Ah, the good old days, when you had to qualify every statement by "in the free world".

  • Now their slogan should be "Fly the Unfriendly and Chaotic Skies", with their lost luggage, preposterous fees, lack of punctuality, comfort, and lack of providing customer service and safety, and many other bad things. My how the airline industry quality standards have gone down the toilet.

  • @burbank That happens to have occurred on the other airlines too. Once you see how horrifying the services of LCC airlines today though, you'll be shocked. I'd rather have myself flying within Flight Simulator, which still provides aircraft that serves as the base for the "Friendly Skies".

  • Flying back then was certainly different tan today. First off the Stewardesses were prettier, friendlier and seemed less stressed. Everyone was less stressed! Planes were more comfortable, security was much easier and the food was better. Now it's ugly stewardesses called flight attendants, Gay stewards abound, tight seating, poor food, delays and long security lines. Major airports look like a 3rd world meeting at the league of nations. Tribal people all wrapped in their "garb". Sucks!

  • I actually remember this annoying commercial when it was brand new. I was 18.

  • @dirthpool I love this commercial! Nancy is so sweet!

  • @ThomsonAirwaysStaff Well back then it annoyed me. Not anymore.

  • Thumbs up if you were born in 82

  • ITS THE DC10!!!

  • Flash forward:

Nancy is still at UA, her attitude has changed:

"Relax Nancy, everyone doesn't need to know you've doing this for 28 years."

"Hi, fuck down and sit off, I mean sit down and fuck off"

"You're steak? HA, your "hotdog"...small" (fuck'em if they can't take a joke Nancy)"

    "More ice? Hell No,"

"Would everyone just stfu, sitdown and leave me alone???!!!!"

    GOOD WORK NANCY!

  • @tonybklyn As much as I hate how the airlines treat people, I have to say that this happened bec of the "bargain basement" mentality of people.

Americans are still better than the Europeans though. On any US Airways transatlantic flight, here's how you can tell the Americans from the Europeans... US Airways charges $5 for headphones for the inflight movie. The Americans grumble and pay up the $5 while the Europeans bring their own headphones in advance with them :)

  • @Mrparrot73 Nope. You get 10 bucks on Continental. You get 50 bucks anywhere else, INCLUDING US Airways.

  • @tonybklyn Is Nancy still at United?

  • @tonybklyn

    Is she still at UA?

  • There are no "flight attendants" in my world! There are stewards, stewardesses, actors, actresses, instructors, and instructresses. I recently saw an actress interviewed on TV. I forget her name, but the TV showed something like, "Jane Doe, Actor". HA!

  • I think also the Unions are ruining the customer service aspect of flight attendants.

  • I'm Proud to be Union. Union represented staff provide far better service levels than non-union.

  • @Suspiria10--Thank you!

That explains why in most businesses, customer service is virtually non-existent now.

  • US based Flight Attendants could take a lesson from Nancy about Customer Service and as well from Asian carriers. Today flights attendants act like its a right to be a flight attendant, when it should be a privileged!

  • @Suspiria10--I know. Such an attitude is totally f-ing ridiculous (as well as the people who don't care.) That is something they should care about for they will only lose customers and/or risk being unemployed :-) It is, as you said, a privilege and not a right.

  • I'll never fly on a US carrier overseas, the service is nothing like the Asian.

  • is that a DC10 or L1011 at the end?

  • @reckz420 Dc-10

  • well rick, after 9/11 i lost my pention. took pay and benefit cuts all while the executives cashed in. would you be friendly?

  • @justjack78 That is no excuse for rude service and not being friendly. You should be lucky to be a Flight Attendant and have a job. If your not happy, then find another job there are plenty of people that would love to have an airline job.

  • @Suspiria10 you're not your

  • @Drillin4Oil I'm not sure what you mean? you're not your?

  • @Suspiria10 If your not happy... is not correct. Your is an adjective like YOUR house, YOUR car. YOU'RE is the contract of YOU and ARE. If YOU'RE not happy, then find another job...is correct English.

  • @Drillin4Oil Regardless of me not spelling correctly. I think my point was made.

  • @Suspiria10 No offense Suspiria10, but since you and I have never had to stand in a flight attendant's shoes, perhaps we shouldn't be so judgmental. Between deregulation, and pay cuts, plus dealing with passengers who themselves are fighting their own 'battles', it can be pretty stressful. Even putting on the best customer service does not mean a person won't get stressed. And as for jobs, more carriers are cutting staff and making the remaining ones work longer schedules.

  • @bigvirgotube and that's no excuse for rude flight attendants. If they don't like their job then quit and find something else. It's today's UNIONS that ruin airlines and its employees.

  • @Suspiria10 Yes i agree

  • HAHAH LOL

  • Did you see how much space between each row they had?? They had more back then than first class has now it seems...

  • After 9/11 United airlines is not the Freindly skies

  • @RickMakesGoodVideos It's a pity the skies are anything but friendly now...

  • @Mrparrot73 United Airlines used to be awesome now they suck

  • Ahhh the days when United was happy and had Great service untill after 9/11

  • she only gave him one cube of ice?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @josephmlong

yah, that was a friendly reminder to him that he's traveling in economy class.

  • In the Free World!! LOL!! Same free world airline used in the 911 free world stunt.

  • It hurts to remember back when it was actually pleasant to travel. Now I'm pleased if I don't get off a flight angry,

  • @motherthing United was awesome in the 80s now they suck

  • THE GOOD TIMES ARE IN THE 80´S

  • WOW things have changed. I remember when flight attendents (stewardesses) were so nice and helpful. Now they're so bitchy and have that "pretend to care" attitude. I travel about 100,000 miles a year. so I truly know what I have seen, yes, even in first class: Bitches.

  • I remember when United Airlines Stewardesses use to be so nice. They are so bitchy now. UNITED AIRLINES FLIGHT ATTENDANTS: Enjoy what you do or find another job!

  • @covis1 Agreed they were awesome in the 80s and 90s the service was Great

  • Give it a rest Reggie....you may spend the rest of your time on Global warming

  • I've seen porno movies start like this

  • nancy just relax

  • @alligator1271 uh Nancy, I speak Jive

  • @shaithis45 HAHAHA! Yesss! I thought the same thing!

  • now with united and continental merged watching this makes me really sad i hate the planned livery with the united name and continentals livery cause it looks shit! i LOVE UNITED AIRLINES! LONG LIVE UNITED :)

  • Airlines use to take pride in and value their employees. That's stated clear in this commercial. Now, they give the shit left behind on the money they wipe their asses with. >:( But, great commercial, thanks for sharing the memories.

  • @blastb0y yea in the 80s flying with united was awesome but now they really suck

  • Thanks for posting, great vid-clip.

  • Yea right....now it's like "What? You want another god-damn coke? What the hell do you think this is, DisneyWorld? That'll be 6 dollars please."

Next time take the damn train.

  • This is when flight attendants were nice and classy. Now US carriers have the worst customer service for flight attendants and service. I wish the US carriers would be more like this and like the Singapore Airlines Girls.

  • @Suspiria10 United is the only "World Class" Airline the U.S. Really has to offer, I know this, because I've been flying for 25 years and I've seen a lot of changes but United while not perfect, does get the Important things right. And the main reason for most other airlines decline, is the passengers, everyone wants their tickets for cheap or free, everyone thinks Air travel is a right. Not the privilege it used to be.

  • @MyleneJ I agree, but that is still no excuse with bad customer service. Today's flight attendants need to look classy like from the early age of flying or perhaps like the airlines of asia. I am so tired of sloppy looking flight attendants, that don't care about how they look, no make up, over weight.

  • Welcome to the friendly skies! Please deposit $45 for each carry on, and an additional $10 if you want a 50 cent can of pop.

  • @nraketh Wrong Airline. Spirit Airlines is THAT way ----->

  • Its like the twilight zone . . .

  • Wow. When passengers traveled on planes with common sense and manners!

  • @TurboVW2004 absolutely

  • I love it ! united should run an add like this again to day and concetrate on a "friedly sky" image again ! god it would be great considering what a pain flying ca be today !

  • @Locker10a You know, i agree with you, but at the same pace. So many people try to Demonize the airlines because they've got nothing else to do.

I do work for an airline, and im tired of turning on the news every day after helping the roughly 1500 passengers i see in Just my shift, to see some bad-haired TV anchor slamming one airline or the other for some stupid crap, that 8-10 times isn't even correct.

  • Sounds like she's had too much helium ... I still miss the days when flight attendants were nicer & actually liked their jobs.

  • I fairness there are some out there who still do !

  • just get my fucking beer

  • Cute and funny commercial. :)

  • You'd think by 1982, uniforms would be devoid of a neckerchief!

  • @scottbaino scarves were all the rage in the 1970s (for some reason!)

  • Comment removed

  • I love united airlines

  • What amazes me is look how much leg room you had back then!!! Wish they kept it that way. Now your nothing but sardines.

  • @Silver1Sprg you're not your

  • How old is this? 1 million years old?

  • no 1 trillion....

  • I miss the 80s

  • me too!!! it was a great time!

  • @o8bit0hero

this was like the early 70's was it not ?

  • Come fly with Nancy She will brake your guitar

  • "Brake" your guitar????

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you Yassir ARABFAT for fucking up an entire industry ....oh yeah and to all your muslims brothers ....WE will soon NUKE ALL of you for this breach of humanity

  • Yassir Arafat was a Palestinian leader who had nothing to do with 9/11. it's ironic how you talk about (9/11, I'm guessing) as a breach of humanity, because in your world, committing genocide against every Muslim on Earth somehow isn't a breach of humanity. I find this even more disturbing, because, assuming that SHMUJEW is jewish, you should know the inhumanity of genocide, i.e., the Holocaust. If you're upset about airport security, blame the TSA. And know that you are an ignorant dunce.

  • this is great commercial

  • i like the "free world" part :)

  • Comment removed

  • I like this plane design better than boring old gray. I also like that logo. Oh and the terminals USED to be nice. The terminal at BDL is KRAPPY!!!

  • United breaks guitars!!!

  • "And that's why I fly myself!!" - John Denver

  • OMG I can't believe I was born this year. I feel so old.

  • I graduated High School in '82. You officially have 18 more years before you are "old".

  • @999Atwood, if you graduated from high school in 1982, you're not old, my dear chap. You're positively a fossil.

  • @jamessmedley82

I know.....the museum called today & asked me to turn myself in.

  • @jamessmedley82 Oooh, that means I'M worth more as a museum piece than a working class slob...my fam will be sooo proud!

  • @bigvirgotube OMG, you're 46? That means when you were a teenager, mobile phones and emails and iPods didn't even exist. What exactly did you and your primitive generation do for fun?

  • @jamessmedley82 Sony Walkman, cassette tapes, CD's were what the 'cool'--and well-heeled kids-had! Cable TV! When MTV played MUSIC! Pong! Atari game console(think clunky, two controllers, analog display)! Annnd, we had to actually GO OUTSIDE TO PLAY! It's criminal, man, criminal! OTOH, the things we could've done if digital camcorders w/USB connectors, tablet PC's, YouTube, and Facebook had existed back then...

  • @bigvirgotube Agreed.

  • @jamessmedley82 it seems you have forgotten that it is those teenagers from you so called "primitive generation" that invented you mobile, ipods, epads nintendo wii 's all that stuff you enjoy now, you ignorant twit!

  • @palebeachbum I'm 36 and I feel old honey, so try to enjoy your 20's while you can. LOL!!

  • i miss working for united airlines lost my job after 9-11

  • mee too!! :-(

  • Comment removed

  • United FAs really are that crazy!

  • Ah the good old times, first flight was in United a 757, good old times

  • aah, 3 years after one of the most infamous DC-10 accidents.

  • ...in the free world. Wow.

  • And there goes jetblue again -- using his favourite word for those who dare to oppose HIS views: "asshole".

  • First of all, the UAL of today has NOTHING to do with the UAL of 1982. Second of all, complain about a problem with an airline to that airline, not by bitching and complaining at a fan posting. I think you need more things to do with your free time.

  • That's pretty funny coming from you, rwas: you are the self-appointed censor at United Breaks Guitars, after all. You think that "democracy" means that you have the right to give your opinion but others whose opinions you don't like should not have that right. You are a particularly loathsome hypocrite.
