I am a bit obsessive about certain geopolitical situations, and I suffer from depression. I went to talk to a shrink and he asked me what my hobbies were and I told him I read about war an awful lot. He told me to basically stick my head in the sand for a while. It reminded me of the line in this "You heart is not a home for the hearts of your brothers" It's such a cold thing to say.
@trollfinger It is a cold statement, I agree. But it's like those safety precautions on airplanes they tell you before lift off; Make sure your own oxygen mask is fastened before...
INCREDIBLE..this song ia like a wild ride to death ,the whole process of begining with a kiss between two lovers ...then you know.....then a bed ..the two of them.....wow¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ making love.....wow¡¡¡¡ GREAT NICK ¡¡¡¡¡¡
this particular song makes you understand how music can be such a powerfull force in the life of a person... Nick cave is himself, indeed, an amazing force...
Nick Cave sang in a church choir for a large part of his upbringing which has greatly influenced his music. Nick himself has stated that he does not believe in God. Faith is never embedded in music, it is embedded in the person who listens to the music.
@recipednb I don't think gender has anything to do with this. I'm female, suffer from depression and tend to hold both views presented in this at different times.
This is a philosophical discussion between two intimate people. Cave questions the womans view on the world by pointing out the flaws in human nature and the woman responds by telling him not to be so negative, and not to take it all upon himself. In my view both points are right and I think both parties are in part convinced by each other, which is why there is a reversal at the end. Cave is smiling and the woman is crying: they both see the others point of view!
nope - she is a god-botherer, explaining the beauty of the world created by god to a non-believer. he then points out some ugly characteristics of the world (or of humans at least), and she lashes out at him for daring to judge god's work. he "can't wipe the smile from his face" at the unquestioning blindness of the religious mind.
nick cave has quite a few songs questioning the validity of religion. this one has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
@crazyivan333z Cave is quite religious, has read the bible and quotes it often. When studying his writing and reading his novels, it becomes quite obvious that he believes in God. I have read that he has looked into many religions but realises that what the teach is not in line with the bibles true message.
I see it simply as he is very analytical of the world and carries it on his shoulders, worries about its problems. He thinks she is too narrow-minded and doesn't at all think of such things and that bothers him. When he approaches her on the matter she erupts into a big, detailed and deep explanation about her thoughts on the subject, gets upset, teary eyed. She chooses to get on with life. He is taken back, surprised that she had put so much thought into it. That why he smiles at her sadness.
@MrLollylikker - it could mean that she realizes that her deterministic view on what happens outside the window isn't true. He's simply happy to see that she's changing her perspective and agreeing with what he said.
i thought that no more shall we part meant no more shall we participate..but then i asked english people and told me it means no more shall we separate
That's fucking great ! I was only born in 1985. I saw Gridnerman at the Electric Picnic in 2008. Was so good. I saw one young woman fall past me laughing at nothing with a crudely drawn on Nick Cave mustache. What a a great day.
this video has the qualities saying about him and his wife and there prespectives of the world and how he is in to conflict and violence while his wife is all about the good things of the world this song had alot of artistic meaning aswell by the red backdrop of it when he conveys his side of the world as bad i liked listening to this song very much

I do not talk in English, accordingly does not understand what he sings about, but sense from listening is excellent, talent does not need languages.

@informalify 5 i think its about two different views of the world, a cynical one and a realistic one. or a mans view and a womans view, maybe..
