The only time I watched BET was for Everybody Hates Chris and since that comes on multiple channels now I have no need to watch BET. It was bad then, but now you see how worse it has gotten with the coporate money of Viacom producing original content that highlights a derogatory image of American blacks. I am black and I am very intelligent. It makes me upset when people at school, usually ignorant black people tell me I'm not a "nigga" because of the way I talk. I would play devil's advocate for Young Jeezy. If you are to show the problems and the issues that is going on in the Projects or people that are in poverty struggling, to try to make something of themselves, you will have to show people who are living that sort of life. But if he is doing this and saying that this is the good life, then I disagree. He claims that BET is a misrepresentation of blacks in America, and there is a lot of truth to this, and this justifies why the channel should be shut down. However, there are a number of conclusions that can be drawn from this:
1. They are representing the ghetto and criminal black population that DOES IN FACT exist, even though it is wrong to do so.
2. BET is encouraging/promoting said behavior that already exists to some extent.

I would play devil's advocate for Young Jeezy. If you are to show the problems and the issues that is going on in the Projects or people that are in poverty struggling, to try to make something of themselves, you will have to show people who are living that sort of life. But if he is doing this and saying that this is the good life, then I disagree. It's interesting because Jaylove47 makes some very good points, but there's definitely a relationship between how blacks are portrayed in the media and the FACT that one in three blacks in America serve some kind of prison sentence or are in trouble with the law. 50 percent of prisoners in the US ARE black.
He mentions that in these images/clips they are presented as having sex all day and killing each other. Well that's what Africans in Africa have always done

He claims that BET is a misrepresentation of blacks in America, and there is a lot of truth to this, and this justifies why the channel should be shut down. However, there are a number of conclusions that can be drawn from this:
1. They are representing the ghetto and criminal black population that DOES IN FACT exist, even though it is wrong to do so.
2. BET is encouraging/promoting said behavior that already exists to some extent.

I believe the ghetto culture would have come about naturally, due to the government/corporations intentionally creating inequality ranging from unemployment, famine and war; all to create a disguise that there are things that can be improved, but behind the scenes they are maximizing profits.

Unfortunately the truth is that any TV station molds their programming to the desires and tastes of their audiences, because it is about making money. Furthermore you are not helping in creating a better image for black folks wearing a gangster head-band (or however you call it), piercings and saying one thing over and over again inarticulately for almost 10 minutes, using bad English and grammar.
